One more small note, please try to write your posts in present tense. As things go this will become more natural.

*chuckle* I know, but it was, like, a real grudge; I couldn't get this site up AT ALL.

Ok. Let me go get this post back.

Prepare the jet, pack, identify and equip the accompanying staff,
I thought for a moment that said "prepare the jet pack..." I was going to inquire at Tatyana's newfangled mode of transportation...

OK, I changed it around. I hope I didn't miss anything. I'm not completely happy with it, I think I'm still looking for Christiaan's voice,

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought there were jet-packs

It's going to be an... interesting group.

I am going to rely on everyone to keep track of their own blood pool state. I will probably only question it if and when the PC does things that use a lot of blood, such as heal wounds, or are in prolonged stress/combat situations.

Anna reviews the glut of news. There's plenty of it, talking about an unidentified prostitute's being thrown off a building, the hanging of Christine, along with some strange animal parts, possibly with some voodoo-like connection; a couple of butchered bodies stuffed into a freezer at the Shamrock a few blocks away; and the discovery of two bodies, a male gang member - possibly a brujo - and a woman, some kind of slightly-famous actress-model wannabee, impaled on playground poles, not too far away as well.
That made me giggle for several minutes for some twisted reason.

Hheeee.... I'd been thinking Tatyana was in Germany this whole time! Ok, no big adjustment. Just gave me imaginary geographical whip-lash for a moment. Boston it is! She was... on a... periodical check-up tour. Yeah. That was it. Good timing.

Heck yeah, esp. if it's a tight timeline to get to DC. No worries.

I hope so. Trying to solve a mystery while dealing with PVP doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me. But hey... stories go where they want to.

I'm sorry that I didn't lay this out earlier.

Rurik has to be resident in DC for at least a reasonable time i.e., a year or more. This is a DC story. This is the setting, I declared that practically first thing. I made the assumption, I know, I know, that everyone would understand this. The Assamite has a reason to start as an outsider, as does Tatyana. Since I didn't see (maybe I missed) anything in Rurik's background saying differently, that was my presumption.

As such, these two would be known to each other by name if not by face. Rurik would be known as an operative and unofficial archon for Vitel, with standing but no political authority i.e., an enforcer. Patrick would be known as a Ventrue that stays well out of politics and only cares about his own affairs. He has a reputation as an amoral hedonist, self-absorbed and difficult to deal with, but not powerful enough nor unwise enough to have truly run afoul of the establishment.

I understand that we have two PCs with strong personalities, but I think the last two posts (from each player respectively) are outside of my suspension of disbelief.

I don't see Patrick as being so foolish as to think he can demand that Rurik leave...but I can chalk that up to bravado. Demanding to be included in the meeting, using his relation to one of the dead as justification, sure. He is a Ventrue, however, and understands how politics goes. If this is an official meeting, or even semi-official, he can only push so hard. As a Ventrue, he has to respect the Traditions, particularly the Second and Fifth, at least, if he doesn't want to be run out of town on a rail, even if he doesn't really care about them. The repercussions will be too severe not to.

Likewise, and moreso, I don't see Rurik opening fire as reasonable. First, the Masquerade. Gunplay of any kind draws attention. Second, there is a legitimate risk of killing the other Ventrue. If he did so without leave, he would be violating the Sixth, even if unintentionally. Third, ordering retainers to use firearms on Kindred is a really bad example to the retainers. It gives them ideas that maybe that is an action that can be contemplated with impunity. Fourth, it makes Rurik look weak, that he can't handle these things with less violence. I could list several other reasons why this is a bad idea, but you get the gist.

I think it's much more reasonable that Rurik would try to 1) find out why he's here, 2) intimidate him into acknowledging Rurik's authority, 3) apprehend him physically without shooting, though there's always that option.

Metagaming-wise, Patrick is going to be part of the Ventrue group, so everyone needs to moderate their actions to the point that this will happen within the context of the story. It's not that I am ruling out PVP, but there better be solid reasons for it. I don't see that being true right now.

I need you guys to either edit or delete and rewrite your posts to reflect my concerns.

How about we just have Rurik not open fire and continue role playing from that point?

Ok, Ventrue... It won't do to have the Misfits running like a well-oiled machine while the Bluebloods run around like the Clampets.

I don't necessarily agree with the interpretation of events given, but I certainly see the OOC concerns and desire to see a group actually form before we have PVP for goodness sake. You ( GM ) did however make a few points about the IC considerations that I consider very pertinent and valid.

The consideration of ordering retainer violence on a kindred had quite slipped my mind. Nobles and serfs and all of that. Quite right there. Something to be avoided. I am rather chagrined that I didn't catch that actually, as now that it is brought to mind it is something that is quite integral to the character I made.

The masq and destruction concerns I didn't think very large, but that may be a difference in how we were picturing the scene. The impression I was getting was of being in a veritable stronghold of camarilla/ventrue power in the meeting and of the guard being a spec-op stealthy/sneaky tactical guy... so I assumed he would have silenced/stealthy weaponry. But it 'is' still gunplay, and a concern I suppose.

I have edited my post accordingly. Here is hoping we can get off to a better start following. I for one was rather concerned already, and I agree... it wasn't the best flow for the start of the game.
