What is the technology level of the kingdom?

You mentioned that there is a monarchy, is it strong or weak? Is there a 'parliament' type of body, or only the nobility?

What is an approximation real world culture we can use for reference?

What is the world's religion like?

How pronounced are class ( as in money / nobility ) boundaries in the society? How large of a divide between the wealthy and the havenots?

Take a look at the Setting info thread in the Players and rules forum. More will be posted later today.

I would encourage you all to post your thoughts/ideas regarding character concepts.

A few things to get you started:

There are no character classes in GURPS per se.
That being said there are templates. I can provide you some if you are interested, they serve a smiler function to classes in other games, but are really more of a guildline.

Generally I would prefer to work through an idea with you, and then turn that into stats myself, and work with you to make it into the character you want to play.

General types of characters appropriate to this campaign (not exhaustive):
  1. Combatants, whether former soldiers, mercenaries, knights, archers, etc.
  2. Healers, Doctors, etc.
  3. Magicians. There are not many, and most people do not believe in them, but there are few real magicians out there.
  4. Thieves, scouts, etc.
  5. Diplomats, Con men, etc.

Can you describe Alan and Corinth? Perhaps a decent origin and goal for my PC respectively?

Hey, all this info is great! One question, what about the gender politics of the jungle tribes? I mean, the little that's known. I mean, even knowing the sexes of the crazy attackers says something about them.

There's also the idea that if they've been encountered a few times so far we'd probably have been able to determine whether or not there was any apparent chain of command.

Interesting to see the comparisons between the jungle tribes and the Picts from European/UK history and Conan... The 13th Warrior comes to mind as well. Or the latest version of King Arthur.

Anyhow, I am enjoying the background and details provided, certainly looks interesting. I'll begin working on my pc tomorrow during lunch probably at my office.

Cool. If my poor little idiot ever gets into a fight with them it's almost certain to lead to a heroic BSOD.

Speaking of which, are there any abilities that can non-lethally disable an opponent before they get a chance to realize they're losing?

Yes, sort of. Powerful blows to the head can possibly knock someone out before they realize whats happening. However, there is also a decent chance that wou will kill them this way. Otherwise it comes down to pinning them, and possibly choking them.

Well, that works so long as they don't also kill members of their own war parties if they can't get away. What sorta ranged weapons do they have if any?

Oh hey I just remembered! Fallout was originally based on GURPS! Does GURPS have groin shots?

I'm interested, too, and it looks like you're answering this thread faster than the CharAcq one. As I said over there, I have most of the relevant books for a game like this -- both corebooks, Fantasy, Magic, Powers, and Martial Arts. I'm not entirely sure what kind of character I'd make, but I saw someone already suggest a character pretty close to what I was thinking so I'm going to have to think about it more anyway.

Also, I can help Shoelip with his unarmed fighter-type if you don't have the Martial Arts book. If you don't have it, the way MAs are set up in that book is basically a list of required skills and advantages, and a possible list of optional skills and advantages someone who uses that MA might want to take. And the cinematic stuff is clearly marked so it can be brought up to you for approval and removed if necessary w/o difficulty.

If you do have the MA book, well, you already know that stuff. Isn't it wonderful?

Plz let me know if you're accepting any more players soon, k.

Copied from the Character acquisition thread:

I would be happy to accept the two of you into my game.

GeekEclectic: I have the MA book, however armed and unarmed combat is currently limited to Brawling and the basic weapon skills for characters from the kingdom of Danleb. Come on over the the character creation thread and we can discuss this some more.

Hurray!

Does anyone else find the term "Sticky private" a little unfortunate?

That would be an indication that one just got some, so that'd be good right?

You had to expect 'someone' would say it?

It could just mean you were really lonely, or horrible burns, or both at the same time.

I'm afraid that is not the point. 'Could' possibly meaning something other than the perverted definition is irrelevant. I'm just saying that if you say something on the internet that has a possible much less obvious perverted interpretation... I'm of the opinion you should expect that, via sheer volume of numbers, someone, somewhere, will take it that way in earnest or at the very least make a joke out of it. It should be expected.
