Critique ahead!!

dabocim I love that you're running this game, and I'm really appreciative of you going out of your way to keep us updated on your progress. That being said I'll admit I kind of have a problem with the way you post your updates.

Namely, you don't give us anything to work with in your posts. All of them have, quite frankly, been lacking in information. Your first post didn't really describe the ship we were inhabiting to, at least my, satisfaction. Subsequent posts have been lacking that "we're moving forward in the plot" feel, especially for a PBP. Your last post is also victim to this. Instead of posting WHAT ships are arriving, giving us something react to, you just state that something is arriving imminently.

Now these are valuable GM habits for a FACE TO FACE game, because they give people a chance to react to what's happening around them. However in a Play by Post game, it just bogs everything down with unnecessary reactions and updates. It's be much better if you posted that Ariq detected something dropping out of hyperspace, then told us WHAT was dropping out of hyperspace. That way we could move the plot forward at a more reasonable rate. Ariq still has an opportunity to react to detecting this in his post and go accordingly, and the rest of us have something to actually react to.

Now I'm not trying to be mean or cruel or anything with this; I'm just trying to point out something that I see as a critical flaw in your posting habits in the hopes of it being rectified. If I come across as mean or cruel or angry I'm sorry. If I'm the only one bothered by this, then I will be slightly humiliated but will continue to play because I enjoy playing Ardana in your game.
Honestly, seconded.

Thirded

Actually I was about to ask you guys for some input as this is my first time running a pbp game and I'm a bit busy with school. If you all could wait a little longer for updates I'd make them much better now that I have an idea of what I'm doing wrong

Honestly, I thought Shakespeare did a fantastic job running a PbP game - but at the same time... It's weeks between updates from you sometimes as it is. I realize you're in school and sports and it's busy, and I'm hardly a constant picture of GM timeliness, but I think longer gaps between GM pauses would be brutal to the game.

Well I didn't say that quite right. I meant could you give me a little bit of time to figure out how to run a good pbp game. What suggestions would you have?

Edit: Also this is my first time running a pbp game so thanks for the critique.

Also say in my last post would be acceptable if I were to say something along the lines of: As the ship drops out of hyperspace the crew busily begins scanning for any signs of the spy. However as Ariq performs his scan he notices several sith ships dropping out of hyperspace, as if to ambush the republic vessel.

That would work, giving us information without having things move too far past our ability to react.

Play by Post is sort of like FtF games in that each person has their own play-styles and reasons they like it. For example, myself personally I like play by post because it offers better characterization for me, so I like my games to be character oriented or at least character influenced. Part of the advantage of a PbP is that you can let your players interact more often without disrupting the rest of the group.

For example, players A and B want to investigate the cantina where their quarry is rumored to be. Players C saw one of his old flames earlier acting suspicious around an arms dealer however, and wants to investigate that, and player D wants to give him backup. Unlike in a face to face game where you now have to split your attention or reel everyone into one storyline, in a play by post you can just make two separate threads and run it that way.

Now that can be difficult so it's not necessarily the BEST answer to the above situation, but its an option not really available in a face to face game. Basically I'm just trying to show that the options available in a PbP are sometimes different from the ones in a face to face game.

Well I think I've got it now. I will flesh it out a bit more in the future but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it

Sorry about no postings - had finals going on. Man, I sound like a broken record. I will try and get a post in some time during the next week.

I missed that as well. I'm sorry I didn't tell you guy's sooner but I'm going to be gone until late Saturday night, I'll try to get some thing up tonight before I leave tomorrow. I'll also keep working on my descriptive skills so that when I get back you'll actually have something to look forward to.

Alright guys here's the deal: It's gotten to the point where it's work for me to post for R9. I like my original idea but... I'm just not really interested in him anymore. I've just kind of lost interest in both the character and the game, and when it takes work to play a game, something is wrong.

So I will bow out of this game, though I will be lurking. Feel free to do whatever you wish with R9.

Sorry guys.

Well, sorry to see you go Cheese, though I understand completely losing the drive for a character.

On that note, how many people are still left here? You have me obviously.

I'm still here (duh it's my game) but I'm going to be very busy until next week. I have two AP tests next week so I'll be pretty busy studying. I probably will get a post up tonight or tomorrow then since I've already been thinking about it for awhile.

Thanks Cheese! I'm back now, sorry I've been really Lax about posting but unfortunately school does come first for me, I was practically studying twenty-four, seven, but I'm done now and I have an excess of time which means posts from me will get much better!

Alright, two questions: 1) do we have an initiative order, and 2) has anyone seen AoM lately?

"You guys" isn't an initiative order, Bro-han. We're individuals, with individual thoughts, and individual dreams, and individ...*sobs*

The way I learned starwars rpg was that in space combat, it went by ships and you all acted simultaneously on a ship.

Well according to AoM's profile, he/she hasn't logged on in over a month. I think it's safe to say our pilot and 1st/2nd Jedi is AWOL.
