DbD OOC

So, first thing we gotta do, is figure out what colors our ponies are going to be. Well yours, I get to pick for aalllll my NPCs. Weee!!

Also make sure to emphasize the rainbows and hearts and such.

...

Hokay. Serious face.
It's zombie time.
Dubba dubba dubba du deh budeh - AUUUGGHHH - dubba dubba dubba deh dehh budeh - AAUUUAUUGHH

There's a subforum called "Characters." You know what to do.
Try to include all relevant information - more than just what the builder spits out on export, enough so I don't have to look up things in the compendium to know what's what.
Looking nice doesn't matter nearly as much as being complete.

This game isn't going to last long enough for replacing players or adding new players to be an issue, so I'm not going to bother with a character creation detail thread.
I'm also going to make my own thread with stat-blocky versions of the sheets.

There's going to be one IC thread for the whole game, combat will happen there too.

I have forgotten things. I know this because I know myself. And I know this because I am a philosopher.
You have questions.
Tell me what they are.

e: Also maybe I'll answer them, or something, I guess.

No Visitor thread? As I was vaguely interested in this as a player, as well as from a "I'd like to see if a PBP can finish" angle, I will be watching over this, much like The Grundle King.

I'm pretty sure I can manage to get this to finish.
It won't be very impressive, I mean I'm intending to do what basically counts as "one chapter" in a lot of other games, but still.

Which reminds me of an old rotating DM that was on these boards. It maybe achieved three chapters before it caved in (the problem was that after each adventure, the party would change slightly as the previous DM subbed his character in and the next pulled his out - this was done without IC explanation, and there ended up being references to it in the IC and what have you.).

It was interesting though. And obviously modules should be easier to run.

I love the fact that Anastrianna is the Pegasus pony. Far cooler than Rainbow. And less homosexual.

Argh I actually got it wrong on the first try.
He's supposed to be a Unicorn.

They can teleport and stuff.

Edit: There I made a thread explaining it.

"Bloodied."
Although that could be something else. Or even just have it in parenthesis, knowing what it is.

Actually why do I even need to write down ahead of time what half a number is when the number's right there?

Have I rendered you speechless or something?

IC prologue bit will be up soon.
Game starts a little after sheets are up and it looks like everyone's with me.

Would be nice if you could figure out (or even one of you could dictate) what happened previously in Chaerdon.

A new mine was opened in the Deepmines area just south of Chaerdon proper. Unfortunately, the meandering digging for the mine had led accidentally opened up a backdoor into a neighboring goblin hovel. Until then, the goblins had lived in relative obscurity, not really bothering the people of the Deepmines area as they had been similarly untouched by those same people. But this backdoor opening was taken as a sign of aggression from what were usually pretty docile goblins.

Miners started disappearing and the mines were shut down. A group of heroes caught wind of the closed mines and went to clear out the goblin "infestation." After a long-fought battle and then some intense negotiations, the party created a kind of peace between these pacifistic goblins and the local townspeople. The goblins are being integrated, publicly, into society in the region in exchange for their extensive knowledge of the grounds south of Chaerdon, particularly the land in the foothills of the Blackiron Mountains.

The goblin rivalry with dwarves is not as ingrained biologically as is typical, but is more like land disputes between rival semi-civilized society.

Now, having brokered a peace that recognizes there can be agreements with goblinkind and that not all of the beasts are evil, the party has been recalled to Pax to explain the agreement with the local ruler, who is very intrigued by the idea of civilizing the "savage" tribes that inhabit the wilds.

(Take it with a grain of salt. Just an idea.)

Hmm, possibly. Getting back to Pax would need to be low priority enough that going on an errand for this other guy seems reasonable, though.

Okay, well I missed the part where there was a side-errand. That can be fixed by saying the errand for the other guy is what drew the party to Pax. He heard of their exploits with the goblins and wants their help taking care of this other "problem" that he has.

Your stat block for me looks right. Had time to do a basic copy of the builder export for now, I'll have time to make pretty power card pictures like Merc's when I can borrow someone else's windows machine at today's 4e session (too lazy to boot into windows myself, and have to run to that session anyways).

My default action will be cleave-and-mark (I don't remember what the others do right now, so I'll decide whether or not to add them after).

Also, My pony is named Pretty Burst Yum-Yum, is a Big Brother Earth pony, and has a heart shaped chunk of cheese as a haunch symbol.

Edit: Also, really like Merc's backstory idea.

Well the the "side errand" is this whole adventure.

The adventure basically consists of a band of guys, on their way from one place to another on the "main quest," getting sidetracked by this asshole questgiver who gives them this lame fetch quest that sends them somewhere with more fun than initially assumed.

Or I could change stuff around. This is just what the module gives as a hook. Could change the questgiver, or could change things so you happen to be in the ass-end of nowhere ("let's take a shortcut") at duskfall when you stumble on this church (the other module hook), or whatever.
However, at least for the "default" hook, the whole thing is a chance encounter, this guy seeing these adventurers and asking them to recover some stuff he doesn't want to go get himself because he's a pansy and hey you guys look pretty strong.

As for history... individually, maybe explaining how you got to Chaerdon ("heard about how awesome Pax is, crossed the Blackiron mountains and winded up in Chaerdon" for the desert types, or "I grew up here" maybe for Dan, or something), something about the goblins, whatever. Merc's story is already way more complex and interesting than what I'd expect.

Also, have I scared away BP or something?

Yeah, I think it would be easiest all around if Dan grew up in Chaerdon. When the attacks started happening, Dan, being the standard good-guy-who-likes-bashing-stuff that he is, was first to investigate, but didn't find much of interest, since he didn't trust himself enough to venture deep into the tunnels alone. So he looked around town for a group of comrades-in-arms to help stop the disappearances. Eventually he finds a group of newcomers to the town who are brave enough to help, and they take care of the goblin problem together. Since Dan likes these folks who seem to be decent upstanding fellows (mostly), and wants more adventure, he goes off with them when they leave.

I'll get to posting power card images now...

Edit: Okay, graphical characther sheet is posted, which, though low quality, should be complete. Also, here will be my default actions for most scenarios.

When in combat and not next to an enemy, and the path is clear to one, charge them to gain advantage of hewing strike. When the zombies seem to be minions, default at-will is cleave. Otherwise, alternate Reaping/Brash Strike. In all cases, mark target I'm hitting, and make use of any attacks allowed me by the mark.

Where is Doombot? I thought the part with the My Little Ponies would have attracted him by now.

Actually hey where's treehouse now that's what I want to know.

e: Blah. What I do know is I need to stop posting things when it's late and I'm tired like this. I mean really.

Cue ominous voice: I have arrived.

Sorry. Busy weekend around here. Lots of family in town. Tonight's the last night for that, however, so this shouldn't create an ongoing problem.

Character will be posted shortly.

Make that not so shortly. Tonight's guests have arrived. I'll finish reformatting the character sheet later (maybe tomorrow).

Ha ha, I went overboard. Guess that's what happens when you spend four hours on a post. Way too heavy on the story, so you can skim most of it. Not really important anyway.
Skip down to the bold "~ Dead by Dawn ~" bit.

Also, not so much a "prologue" as "prologue plus the start of the IC thread itself," so I guess we're starting for realz yo.

To be clear, we have as NPCs:
Karrzikda or "Karz," the kobold merchant. She's kind of irritating, but is paying the party to go to Pax, where they'd be going anyway.
Mike, Karz's partner. He's much more reasonable. Not sure if he's Karz's bodyguard or fellow merchant or what.
Neither of these people will be very important (they won't be coming with you on the adventure).

Right now you're at Ox's Bridge. The trip from Ox's Bridge to Pax takes pretty much a whole day, you couldn't make it there before nightfall, but it's still rather early in the day. Camping on the road from Ox's Bridge to Pax is a really bad idea. This is something Dan knows. Only big caravans with many guards attempt that sort of thing.
Really really really bad idea. Though not as bad as spending a night in a freaking creepy church probably.

So go and post. Specifically respond to the guard yelling at you.
Maybe start getting some party dynamics dynamicking.

Plus I'm not sure what Shara's background is, I've been assuming he came with Alek from the desert place.
