Giz-Giz is pushing toward HQ first. Minor functionaries sounds like a fine idea for the rest of us to be doing while Emen is house hunting.

Yarik's suggestion was that you want Emen to do the actual deal making, since you're more likely to get a good deal, and you need to know where the base is in order to send people to it, so splitting up before you have one is kind of pointless.

Either way, post something IC to update off of, please.

Was looking into spells that giz-Giz might acquire before setting out to allow telepathic communication. So far my RL has distracted me from that purpose.

So, I'll update as soon as there's an in character post confirming your decision to do something.

The group knows of three potential headquarters they might be able to purchase for their use. The first is an old, out of use Imperial Army barracks. Advantages are that it's designed to house people already and has facilities that can be restored, as well as training grounds.

The second is a local closed school. It has plenty of space and can be converted easily enough, and has some offices and the like that the barracks don't. It doesn't have grounds specifically intended for training but they can be modified.

The third is a tract of land just outside the town that could be purchased and have headquarters constructed upon them. This would be the most expensive option but would have the most potential, as you could have pretty much anything you need built there, specifically to your designs.

At any rate, the town magistrate would be the person to see in order to purchase any of the three.

I'll have you guys skip ahead to the magistrate as soon as you determine which of the three you'd like to purchase, or let me know if you've changed your mind.

You'd have to see the properties in person in order to appraise them.

What do you think, Captain Gavis? I'm leaning towards the second option. Emen would probably leave most of this decision up to those who'll be doing the actual training, but would caution against spending more than absolutely necessary.

I'll post an IC update to that effect in a minute.

Also - "House Hunters Fantasy" could be a diverting mini-game of sorts. "Will they choose option #1, which has all the amenities but costs twice their budget? Or option #2, which is their perfect house, but dirt cheap because it's next door to a witches' coven? Or will they pick option #3, a fixer-upper that is just above their budget because it's in a safer location than the second, but lacks any of the protection spells that they loved about the first? Stay tuned after the commercial break."

If any of you have ever looked into the Stronhold builder's guide it has a large, indept look at construction of buildings and especially the "cost" of making buildings with magic.

In other words, get Giz-Giz some scrolls of move earth, stone shape, fabricate, etc. and he will make you a castle for pretty much free.

1. find scrolls of spells or a very nice wizard who will allow GizGiz to copypasta
2. Copy spells into Giz-Giz's spellbook.
3. ????
4. Profit

One of the downsides of children is that they bring home sicknesses from school and promptly pass them on to parents. Such is my lot right now. Sorry for the delay.

Appraise checks for all of you went here.

Emen and Sivek estimate the value of the property to be around 600 to 700 gold. Giz-Giz guesses the value at around 300, and Yarik guesses the value to be around 900.

There is an inconsistency with the number of dierolls in this post due to editing!

If there is an appraise roll that formerly was in the "guess the price" Giz-Giz would definitely have used Appraising touch as they walked through the building. +10 insight bonus to his roll (so would have been at +15 for any rolls) to guess the price and lasts 1/hr per level so would have had it pre-cast for the meeting. And he also has the default +11 to Knowledge (Architecture and Engineering) to assist that appraisal.

EDIT: Also, even if the check fails with the spell it still only varies the price by 50% not the standard 150%-50%

Ah yes, but Giz-Giz doesn't have 5 ranks in the knowledge skill, so he doesn't get the synergy bonus. I added the +10 to your roll now, it doesn't actually change the result for you. Neither does the 50% change.

But he must know that you've studied the laws of appraisal and so you can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.

But you're only getting started.
