Gravity Glaive

Dragon sounded the charge, and his brave men sped forth, roaring with the courage that welled in their breasts as they bore down on their opponents. The defending army may have outnumbered them, but no regiment could stand to the fury of Dragon alone, much less with his trusted soldiers at his back. The General joined his soldiers' cry and led the cavalry charge into the countless enemies at the foot of the hill. As they began to gallop, Dragon could tell his men were ready for battle--their eyes were bright and eager. He let his body fall in movement with the horse and pulled his helmet down. In his right hand, a strange spear; in his left, the banner of the White Dragons, the wind pulling at the fabric.

With a clash, the two armies met, and it was immediately apparent how the General had inspired his troops. They pressed the charge and plowed through the first lines of defense with ease. Dragon felt his steed shudder as several sharp spearheads slammed into its chest. Without wasting a second, his hand found a balance point between himself and the horse. As the horse fell, the commander heaved, vaulting over an entire squad of enemy soldiers and pinning three to the ground as he landed, crashing into the captain and bringing him to the ground as well. But Dragon's feet were steady and his spear was already free. With a flourish, the spear drove in and out, in and out, past the infantry's defenses and through their armor. Several bodies already rested at the Lawgiver's feet, and the body count continued to rise.

As the foes pressed, Dragon gave out a fierce roar and slammed the butt of his polearm against the ground with the force of a thunderclap. The blast sent cracks through the ground, and just like that, the area surrounding the general was clear. A circle of tangled fighters struggled to rise 10 yards around him, shoving off the bodies of the fallen and crying tears of fear. Dragon did not let up. He carved a line to his comrades, his spear hitting like a ton of bricks one moment and flashing between the lines the next. It was as if it had a mind of its own.

The battle progressed until every enemy soldier lay dead or defeated. Dragon walked up to the weaponless, defeated general and spoke. "I give you one last chance to defeat us. Surely a man commanding an army of this size has proven himself in combat. If you defeat me, you will walk off this field unharmed." The General of the White Dragons stared through his bloodstained visor. "I give you my spear and fight with my fists... come!"

With a heave, Dragon tossed his opponent the weapon. The big man’s hands closed around the weapon as it approached him, but the spear continued through the air, immobilizing the enemy general beneath its weight. "H-How can you lift such a thing?!" The man gasped, pinned under the spear. "You demon! Be gone anathema, the Hunt will find you!"

Dragon's heel landed on his opponent's chest and he hefted the weapon. "Not before my spear finds you." And with that, the Gravity Glaive found the general's heart and the battle was won, just like countless battles before.

Weapon Systems
Artifact Level 4

The Gravity Glaive is a 7' metal spear, which has the odd ability to shift its weight. The metal used to forge it remains unknown, but it is certainly magical. The blade is just a little over a foot in length, with a slightly obtuse blade on the striking side, giving it the piercing potential of a pike and the slashing abilities of a glaive. There isn't much of a cross hilt, and the weapon in and of itself is by no means beautiful *– flawless yet not inlaid or ornate. The glaive is naturally the weight of a dire lance, and can generally be treated as such, until dealing with its strange interactions with gravity.

Gravity Shift

An experienced sorcerer-craftsman who examines this weapon in use would be surprised to find that the weight of the weapon doesn’t actually change. The glaive affects its own gravity in such a confined area that not even the hand of the wielder feels the effect. This gives the Gravity Glaive the illusion that its weight is independent when there is indeed a more interesting explanation. The wielder may only use one condition of the Gravity Shift per action.

-Condition 1-
Those attuned to this weapon have the ability to freely change its ‘weight’ for any duration of time. By spending 3 motes of essence, the Exalt can alter the ‘weight’ of this weapon for a single swing, granting a much heavier strike and the O tag (providing an Overwhelming value of [Essence +1]), as long as the ‘weight’ is at its heaviest. This strong attack will add +4L/+5L at the sacrifice of the swing being calculated with Accuracy 1.

-Condition 2-
The wielder can also change the ‘weight’ for an extended period of time for a lesser cost of 2m, though the effectiveness is limited when not used in the heat of battle. Lower both the Accuracy and Defense values of the glaive to -1 while Condition 2 is active, but increase the Damage as if Condition 1 were active all along. This change will last until the next time the ‘weight’ is changed, so this is technically the new permanent ‘weight’ of the Gravity Glaive. Thusly if Condition 1 is activated, the ‘weight’ will return to the last time Condition 2 was used.

Earth shatter

The attuned Exalted wielding this weapon can command it to exert a large gravitational force downwards and outwards by channeling essence through the glaive. A simple pound on the ground may crack the earth, but if the Exalt wishes, he may spend essence to amplify this effect.

As a standard Miscellaneous action (Speed 5, DV -1), the wielder may spend 3 motes. Cracks will spread through the ground and (Essence) enemies within 10 yards, chosen by the wielder, will add 1 to the Speed of their current action, delaying their next action by an additional tick.

With a Miscellaneous
action and 5 motes, the ground at the Exalt’s feet will be shattered, sending a shockwave of earth rippling out to a radius 20 yards. Everyone within this area must check for knockdown at the standard listed difficulty.

With a Miscellaneous action that cannot be flurried with any other action and 7 motes, the wielder slams the glaive into the ground, creating a massive explosion of force that effects everyone within a radius 30 yards. Those within 10 yards of the wielder must check for knockback or be sent 10 yards backwards. Those within 11-20 yards must check for knockback as well, or be sent 5 yards backwards. Those within 21-30 yards must check for knockdown. Regardless, the difficulty of this check for Essence wielders and magical beings is equal to the wielder's (Essence). All other creatures, the mundane and mortals, fail this check automatically. As an aftereffect, the explosion creates a large crater of the same size with a depth of 10 yards in the center. All affected by the explosion fall into this crater, and any buildings with walls that happen to end up inside the crater now lack whatever support the ground once provided, in addition to whatever structural damage they may have suffered.

Breaker
(Innate)

This weapon does double damage against inanimate objects, and triple with an reflexive expenditure of 2 motes.
