OoC (Visitors Welcome!)
The obligatory OoC thread. I'll be building the other starting threads throughout the day, but for now wanted to get this thread up so people can post.

It's just in designated visitor threads he tends to pops up. But I'm sure he'll be along in due time.

At the bottom of the fast packs are additional items for the classes. For instance, the Fighters get a vial of holy water and 5 gold pieces in addition to the pack and 50 gold for weapons and armor. Rangers, as an advanced option, aren't included in the list so I was giving you options if you wanted to use the fast packs.
If you have a different idea of something extra worth about the same, feel free to use it instead. I posted the equipment earlier in the thread, but since that's in another forum I'll use the Backstage subforum and throw a thread up with useful M20 links. |

So, hit points say "STR + 1d6 / level". Does that mean strength score or strength modifier?

Strength score. Since magic users burn HP to cast spells and the fighters naturally need the HP, everyone needs those extra hit points to start. So for a strength score of 11, you'll have 11 plus a d6 to start the game.

I think this may be my last question (for a while, at least):
I was thinking that much of my character's ranger-type knowledge would depend on MIND, but that was before I heard about the Survivor skill and how that works. So tell me, how important is MIND to a ranger? Would I be better off putting my middle score in STR instead? |

Rolls:
11 13 14

Well, it could be worse. I was hoping for a 16 in there.

Kelemyn - Skillwise, MIND would be better for knowledge-type survival rolls and STR better for more physical tasks. For instance, finding a path in the woods would be MIND + Survival, while actually blazing a path would be more STR + Survival.
It really depends on your character. Are you the knowledgable ranger, or someone who let's your raw physical ability carry you through the woods? Either way, I'll play to you, not expect you to tailor a character to the adventure. I actually like the MIND-secondary ranger build, myself. Gralhruk - And that's why for level one, I'm letting you reroll hit point rolls below a 3. Ouch! |

You didn't actually obey the dictates of my pre-rolling system. Now look at what you get!

So . . . what is the current year? And what is the calendar like?
|
#17
|
||||
|

The calendar is still not set, but what I have so far is that the years count up from the start of the current age (which means the current year will be a really big number), it's the beginning of fall in the northern part of the world where you all will be starting play, and we're going with a much simplified month/day system. 24 hours a day to maintain our sanity, and probably 28-day months with two ad hoc days thrown in each year during the equinoxes. Beyond that, it's still be finalized. You should see some of this information begin to populate the Backstage, but let me know your background ideas so I can work them into the world. Qwon (I think that's his name) is keeping a journal, and I want to stick in the dates of each entry so that's why I was asking. It can wait, of course, until you've finalized the ideas in your head.

I like character journals. Consider calendar now at the top of my build list.

Excellent!
Say, if we don't go with the fastpack option how much gold would the monk and ranger get (since they aren't in the core rules)? |

Ahh, knew I was forgetting something! I'll need to check when I get home tonight and let you know; I have the values somewhere, but can't remember where and my company's firewall is giving me fits...

I see you put up the calendar. Can I start a new thread in "World Information" for my journal? I don't think the character thread is really a good place for it.

Ok, I found the starting gold numbers and Gralhruk, you're going to hate me for this one. Rangers get 150 gp to start, and monks get 25 gp to start. And that's after I double the monk from it's original starting point. I guess it makes sense, especially given the background you've come up with, but man is that brutal.
For your journal, go for it! I started a thread (wasn't sure if you could or not) for you to post in called, imaginatively enough, Qwon's Journal. |

Nah, that's actually generous compared to what Monks normally get - I've played a few monks over the years and 5-20 is standard starting gold. I admit that I was rather looking forward to being able to buy all manner of expensive yet useless crap, and I fear I may need to kiss my mule goodbye but such is the life of a monk, I suppose.
And anyone can start threads ![]() |

Kiss your mule good-bye... I've never heard it put that way before!
