Maybe it's a side effect of some other tech, which hasn't been fully used by the Icarus?
A part of the engine is Mi-Go based, but has a much greater potential than what we're using it for. At the moment, the product is that the Icarus is fast, and also that space occasionally gets warped in odd ways, but it could be used for a lot more--and some people are aware of this, and trying to get their hands on it.
Toaster itself doesn't even really understand what's going on, only enough to keep it working to the current extent.

Hrm... I'd prefer that to remain secret from the crew if in fact the engine is partially Mi-Go. That way, we could at some point discover it and unlock it, but I'd like to have it start off with that not being the case automatically.

Hmm, sure.
Maybe there's a part that "was there when I got it," and nobody really knows how it works, just that whenever Toaster tries to take it out or mess with it the Icarus gets a lot slower.

As long as it doesn't say Miskatonic anywhere on it.

Damn, that was going to be my suggestion for the company that made the Icarus. You know, like the TIE Corporation. It would have been Miskatonic Motors!

I kid, I kid.

I was figuring it as more science than fiction. I wish I could find the original article I read on the topic but it involved some talk of tesseracts, TARDIS and folds in space time. Basically it was talking about how the idea could possibly work but wouldn't be feasibly sustainable and definately isn't possibly with current technology. But I figured that is where the fiction part of science fiction picks up.

I just figured that it would be easier to have it be larger on the inside than the out than to have everyone comprimise on how large they wanted the ship. But I understand it might be too hard to swallow or too far beyond the scope of the level of technology we want to be dealing with. Was just an idea.

Ok, I am back from my trip. Look for me to start tossing up info in the Datavault section later today and for us to actually get started in the next couple of days.

Also, I'm thinking that the Icarus probably did not come with the "extra-dimensional storage" option.

Side effect of the weird alien tech that's in the engine that makes it so fast.
Which is also a plot device that causes people to want to kill us.

So safe to assume that holodecks are straight out? Dang, I was looking forward to fighting an evil axe wielding Abe Lincoln.

I guess the procuring of a portable hole just moved up the priority list of gadgets for Toaster to find. Please chart a course for the nearest singularity so that we might find a way to harness it's power. muahaha!

Nope, still here. Sorry, the last few days have been a mixture of me being really busy and me being a bit lazy. I should have the rest of the stuff up by the end of this weekend.

Ah, no rush. It was just a flurry of activity then sorta died off. I've seen many a PBP game go by the wayside from similar events so I'm a bit paranoid now.

Important question: Does the Icarus have gravity generators?

That is a good question. I've just sort of been assuming it has, like the Millenium Falcon and the Firefly.

Same here. A big question is whether its due to rotation of part of the ship (and probably goes away during dogfights and is only in some areas) or if there's some kind of "artificial gravity generator" technology.

I prefer "artificial gravity generator". It just makes things simpler.

I was assuming artificial gravity generator, rather then centripetal force.

Okay, so we have an overview of the Cluster, the Human Planetary System, an alien race, the Icarus, and an NPC doctor aboard the ship. I think that gives us enough stuff to get started, though if you want to add to our universe feel free to do so in the datavault. Also, if you see a person, place, or thing mentioned in a Datavault entry that you would like to add an entry for (Excelsior Space Industries, the Talishok home systems, Honest Ned, IDF, Planet or Moon histories, etc.) please feel free. If you see something covered that you would like some changes to, feel free to bring that up as well.

I plan on adding up a timeline soon to get a feel for where we are at in the Human colonization effort.

Can Toaster have an open air rocket bike called "Fiend"?

Yeah, I suppose that is fine. I'd imagine the ship would have a couple a ground vehicles (ATVs and the like) anyway, so if one of them is a bike that is fine by me.

Like pretty much just a small ship without a cockpit.
And yeah, probably, since I imagine a significant part of a ship's bulk is the cockpit and life support.

Also the small Hummingbird thing is Cale's.
