Sorry to hear of the latest mishap.

By the way, do we get any experience for making it back into town?

Thankfully my body didn't sustain any broken bones, still mending, but am working and typing again. I'll be updating by Thursday.

Aye, I'll see about posting some XP too.

Oh. I thought you'd brushed aside her offer to introduce us and went to talk to me yourself.

I'm sorry. I didn't see the ring on her finger. I was focused on her... assets... not her liabilities.

Well Edward does realize she's an upscale prostitute and it's really stupid for him to be so infatuated with her. That doesn't really change anything though. He mostly just tries not to think about such unpleasant things and tries to remain confident that his intellect and charm will win her over... Or at least the former...

It wouldn't help to get filthy stinking rich either.

Hey, I'm an equal opportunity flatterer. I'm pretty sure Alicia was out of the room so she didn't hear.

Heya 5Solas, welcome to the game.

I've got some questions about your character's asignment though. First of all, I don't think there were any Cavalry Divisions during the Civil War. At least I can't find any mention of a "cavalry division" in the civil war after extensive google and wikipedia searches. If you make your character a member of the 1st Cavalry Regement instead, that presents another problem. The 1st Cavalry Regement wasn't black. In fact, I can't finsd anything at all about black cavalry units during the Civil War.

Of course I could have just missed something and be completely wrong, so feel free to contradict me.

Howdy! Good to be here and thanks for the question. Here's the information that I've found by poking around and if it doesn't satisfy, please let me know or I could change things:

-Wikipedia Entry: List of United States Colored Troops Civil War Units (Scroll towards the bottom for the Cavalry Section)

-Civil War Archive Entry: United States Colored Troops Calvary

For some bizarre reason there is very little history concerning this (or many other colored units for that matter) unit and only the 2nd and 5th really have any sort of Google "Street Cred". Was it a Regiment in size? I would assume so given the name but there's really nothing saying either direction, especially given how both sides of the war liked to have "hollow armies" if you will. Regardless, the 1st and the 9th did exist. I didn't know, either, until I had done some serious digging myself...I love learning new things!

Also, thanks again for the questions because I noticed another error...unless I'm horribly wrong, the Civil War wasn't in 1963.

It's good to be here and I look forward to RPing with you guys.

Also, for some bizarre reason, I didn't notice that my character shared a last name with another. Can we change the name of my thread to match? I'm thinking "Jackson".

Black troops in the Civil War are somewhat more famous for their infantry work. There was a (rather inaccurate) movie about the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment called Glory with a bunch of famous people in it.

Yes...inaccurate but a pretty good film. You are right in that the infantry units have garnered most of the attention but I'm still mystified as to the general lack of information given the huge emphasis higher learning places on "alternative history" and the amounts of private and federal monies that go into researching these things.

Anyway, creating my character today and will go from there. I might need help, though, so watch this space.

Good? Of course it's good! It had Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, and Carey Elwes! And Fer- I mean Matthew Broderick.

Indeed, but the movie Glory and some others do recount such history (not always accurate). Also the History channel and Military channel have documentaries/shows on such things. I got sources of info since I live in Atlanta, GA and there are lots of Civil War historical stuff here.

I'll be reviewing your pc and updating/providing more info in the next day or two.

This is true and it's neat that you're in an area that has such great source material, being a history buff myself. I guess the 54th and other "chosen" units (despite the time/conflict) get all the glory while many others simply fall silent by the wayside with only historians and their members knowing the "last, full measure of devotion" that was given by them.

Glad you got it and I hope it "works". Take your time and we'll sort it out then.
