Level 2, standard starting gp, 48 point buy. We need a divine caster/healer. Alignment not restricted by type.

We could also use a rogue or an arcane caster, but no more fighters. We have a Str-based psion, a psychic warrior, and a fighter.

It's also a bit of an experiment. I leave almost everything to the PCs, with no action controlling. So far this has resulted in a very pissed druid, a half-torched house, and a near-dead PC (From being in near-burned house).

Guess who was the catalyst  don't worry I will try to behave from now on.

One more thing that was brought to my attention: You may choose any nonevil diety for your cleric. This includes Core, FR, and Dieties & Demigods (Which includes Odin and Egyptian dieties).

Just realized that the fighter was the one who left. Cadruis opted for a character, so we're set. If you hurry you can go for another healer, full caster, or other fill character, but it's your call.

Note: With Dragon #300, I'll accept half-dragons with the 5 new varieties. Also, (In both arena and half-dragon game) dragons may use either breath weapon of dragon type (Still 1/day total). However, since these dragon varieties are slightly more powerful than the MM dragons, you will have to RP a bit more. All these dragons are naturally evil, so any slay-happy paladins are likely to aim for evil dragon varieties first. I included the basic description for PCs to base character appearance on.
Howling:
Breath Weapon: Cone of sonic (4d10), cone of maddening sound (2 Wis damage)
Immunities: Sonic
Origionally from Pandemonium. Long, thin body with short (For a dragon) appendages. Yellow and black mottled scales, and larger-than-normal yellow eyes with small pupils. A bit more intelligent than most dragons, but bordering on (If not completely) insane. After all, you try living in a place where the air screams at you.
Pyroclastic:
Breath Weapon: Half-fire/half-sonic (4d6), line of disintegrate (Successful save against the latter deals no damage)
Immunities: Fire, sonic
From Gehenna. Built like a tank, varied red, orange, black, and grey scales. Acts like a force of nature, with a penchant for destruction.
Rust:
Breath Weapon: Line of acid (4d4), cone of reddish-brown liquid (Save vs breath weapon or metal gear is wasted)
Immunities: Acid
Acheron. Appears like other (MM) metallic dragons, with occasionally copper, silver or brass, but with corroded, rust/verdigris look.
Styx:
Breath Weapon: Line of acid (2d6), dumbass gas (2 Int damage)
Immunities: Acid, poison, disease
Hangs around the river. Thin, long, and more dead looking than an old skull dragon. Hell-red scales, but claws are suited for swimming and not useful in combat. Instead, has two whiplike blades on it's tail that is as powerful as a dragon one size larger. However, like the wings, really not a PC thing.
Tartarian:
Breath Weapon: Line of force (4d8), cone of gas that gives -2 to saves, attacks, damage, and checks for 3 rounds
Immunities: None
Carceri. Black, gray, and olive scales. More gaunt and skeletal than a goth necro on Kate Moss' diet.
Secondary breath weapon (MM dragons):
Brass: Sleep for 1d6+2 rounds (No HD max) (Cone).
Bronze: Repulsion gas (Do nothing but move away from dragon for 1d6+2 rounds) (Cone).
Copper: Slow for 1d6+2 rounds (Cone.
Gold: Take 2 Str damage (Cone).
Silver: Paralyzed for 1d6+2 rounds (Cone).

I'm a half-red dragon......arn't they supposed to be evil :) How do you work that out :) and then even it out with someone of this variety.
Setzer Gabbiani

There. To compensate for the power, second breath weapon, and odd immunities, the breath weapons are reduced to a stage 2 damage.
Setzer Gabbiani
3rd of October, 2002, 09:07
Two changes. If a dragon type has two breath weapons, you can either:
1. Take only the damage breath weapon (3 or 6 damage dice)
2. Take only the effect breath weapon
3. Able to use both, but treates as category 2 dragon (2 or 4 damage die). You can still only use 1/day.

Hey Setzer, you still need another half-dragon replacement?
Setzer Gabbiani

I suppose another one wouldn't hurt. Go ahead.

Just one thing to note, I think we have enough psionic characters. When half the group uses psionics, I dread the day when psionic monsters come out to eat the normals. :?
Setzer Gabbiani

Thanks for reminding me about the psionic monsters

If those psionic monsters don't kill us, I'm sure a blazing inferno caused by Sponkle's pyro will. :nervous:

Sorry for asking if I could join and then vanishing into the abyss ;) I'll work on a character today and present him to you. I was in two online games but one has stopped (DM had to withdraw) and the other one is moving kinda slow since this DM is getting married..
Anyway, I'll work on a character idea now :)
[edit] That is, if you still don't mind another joining. Is the 48 point buy standar point buy or 1:1?
Setzer Gabbiani
15th of October, 2002, 10:34
Standard point buy -- 1-4-1 would be hella weak. I allow metallic, chromatic, and gem dragons.
For thost of you who wanted gem dragons the first time around, the MM 2 gives the official stats on it. That's the difference.
BigRedRod
15th of October, 2002, 16:06
yeah no problem :)
I'm not harbouring an evil grudge at you because you wouldn't let me play a gem when no rules existed :)
Aranan
15th of October, 2002, 23:11
I was just checking.. cause 48 seems hella strong ;-)
Alrighty, character creation is beginning.
[edit] Oh, what's the rules for purchasing equipment? Just spend my money smartly or is there some complex formula I have to plug numbers into in order to see if I can buy item X or not?
Setzer Gabbiani
16th of October, 2002, 02:06
Standard gold is used.
For the origional players -- now that I have official stats on it, you could change your characters to a gem type.

i've picked now and despite playing a psi class on a magic dragon I'm happy with my choice :)
Aranan
16th of October, 2002, 04:47
Is the arcane / rogue position still needed the most? Or is any class type wanted?
BigRedRod
16th of October, 2002, 04:49
we have nothing arcane
and nothing really rogue-like
then again as it's kind of hands off DMing
I think anything would work fairly welll
then again it's not my game :)
Setzer Gabbiani
16th of October, 2002, 04:49
anything but psion
Setzer Gabbiani
16th of October, 2002, 04:58
Cadrius took the rogue-sorcerer. We do however, need a divine caster -- minor or major. Or another arcane caster would do...... ... ... You know, with having everone represented but offered another character, this is what bards were made for.
Aranan

Alright. I don't like psionics myself, so I tend to avoid using them ^_^

Fine by me, just post whatever your character is in the game thread.

Any chance of playing a half Song Dragon (Monsters of Faerun book)? If so, I'll probably be a half Song Dragon Bard (how fitting) and if not.. a half Silver Dragon Cleric.
Setzer Gabbiani
17th of October, 2002, 12:41
I'll allow song, since the template is the same for all dragons except for base alignment and breath weapon/immunity.

Er.. crap. I really hate saying I'll join and then not following through..
But I'm leaving for California soon and I've had a slight change in my scheduling (work and school) which results in less free time for me. Sorry Setzer :(

Not a problem man. Have fun now (California kicks ass).

I'm it does when compared to the po-dunk town you and Lorben live in. At least I think one of you guys said your town was a small one. :fun:

about 900 people. The sign says 950, but we haven't had a census taken in years -- this place's shrinking like all the old people in it.
