Okay, LG, LB and I were discussing how we would like to have a place where we could discuss our favorite MMORPG, and we know that the rest of you really enjoy World of Warcraft, and really enjoy discussing it. I'm putting this thread here so that we can do just that. Feel free to make plans, tell anecdotes, leave messages, etc.

For a first post for Runescape, I just gotta say that I'm really excited about the prospect of a blood rune altar. I think that will just kill. I am, despite my efforts with slayer, really becoming more mage than anything, and the runescaping just solidifies that. I mean, my first "combat" skill that will reach 80 is going to be magic (without even trying), not ranging.

That sort of shifts my image of what I intended Ralig to be. Lady is the Adventurer, Crazy is the Slayer, and Ralig is the yeoman. Now he's turning out to be Oz. Ah well, Oz the yeoman. It could happen. I suppose, though, that I ought to learn ancient and lunar magic, too.

LightBringer
24th of April, 2008, 00:22
Ralig the yoddling, yeoman of Oz, lumberjack. LOL

Seriously dude, with an 80 mage you reallllllly need ancient magic. You could be doing some massive damage.

Even though I'd rather have an 80 Slayer, my first 80 was Attack. Although my second was cooking. :fun:

LadyGlutter
24th of April, 2008, 00:40
Oz, I can so see that. How close are you to making Death Runes, anyway?

And you know you'd use the magic for the Lunar quests, too. I mean, how great would it be to yell, "Ph34r my Lunar MagiX111!!!" as you baked a pie or filled your vials or made your planks that way? Hmmmm?

Chris Chandler
24th of April, 2008, 00:49
I would so stay with lunar magic all the freaking time if I could access high alching easier. Lunar magic rawks!

I'm almost to 63 (like, I'll get it today). Death runes are 65. So...

I need to do the Waterfall Quest so I can do Desert Treausure
I need to do Lunar Diplomacy, then work on 85 combat to be able to do Dream Mentor

That's some big quests... I'd better prepare.

I am so all over saying that with the Lunar magic.

LightBringer
26th of April, 2008, 00:30
Nice!

That was an oops moment. I actually stopped short. I'm waiting on some chef delight from someone. :worry: I had it in my mind that I made it though. Now it's a race to see which one hits 80 first, cooking or fletching. ;)

Chris Chandler
26th of April, 2008, 04:37
I have an 81 fletching... It'll jump to 86 after I finish this load of yew and magic logs. I'll be smashing then.

LightBringer
26th of April, 2008, 05:00
Cool! One day I'll be an 86 Slayer. That'll be soooooo cool.

Chris Chandler

86 slayer and you'll be able to make just a bit of profit every once in a while.

LadyGlutter
28th of April, 2008, 22:47
Hey C, I know you have a ton of quests you've got lined up. What order are you planning on doing them? I was thinking whenever you're ready for Dream Mentor, but I'm up for doing it with you. Can't remember, but it seems like that's a lot of prereq's away for you though, so it should give you plenty of fair warning. ;)

Chris Chandler
28th of April, 2008, 23:35
The only prereqs that I don't have for Dream Mentor are doing Lunar Diplomacy and having an 85 combat level. Getting 5 more levels of combat may take a while. Personally, I think that I need to improve my defense more than any other melee skill, so I might work on that when I'm not sniping. I'll let you know.

I'd like to do Dream Mentor with you.

I was going to do Lunar Diplomacy, then Waterfall, then Desert Treasure, and then work on the hassle that is Underground Pass->> Mourning's End II. That involves, at the least, getting to 56 agility. That should keep me occupied for months.

LadyGlutter
29th of April, 2008, 23:12
Hahahaha.

Well then, by the time you do all that nonsense, your combat level will already be 85, you won't even have to train! You'll naturally have gained that in Summoning alone. >.<

We trawling today, by the way?

Chris Chandler
29th of April, 2008, 23:21
If the 'net cooperates, I don't see why not. It's a good fun mini-game.

The Edgeville furnace makes smelting a non-issue, rather than a PITA, in very much the same way as the Wizard's guild teleport to the rune essence mines makes it a non issue. It is amazing what a difference a few yards make!

Without a mature dwarven stout. I'll hit 68 smithing easy peasey. Mithril Platebodies... yum. Those alc for a bit over 3k

It was super easy (the quest). I think it was one of those, "hey, weirdo who has all three of those skills (runecraft, smithing, fletching) that high, have some bonus xp for 10 minutes of work." Plus, it's a Tiffy Cashen quest, and I'm always ahead of the curve for doing Temple/White knight stuff. I mean, you two Guthix followers work for him because it meets your ends. I do it because it's the right thing to do.

LightBringer

ROFL!!!!!!!!

Those are a strange combo of skills. Honestly, I haven't even looked at that quest in so long I couldn't even tell you what the requirements were. Right now I'm debating finishing Desert Treasures, or starting Shades of Mor'ton. How messed up is that!

Chris Chandler
1st of May, 2008, 23:35
Y... You haven't done shades of Mor'ton? Oh great googly moogly. LG will be helping me with Lunar sometime this week (should the net hold out) and then I'll do waterfall and desert treasure.

LG - if the net holds out, would you like to help me with Lunar tonight?

LadyGlutter
1st of May, 2008, 23:39
Yeah! That's a fun quest.

In fact, all this talking about it has made me start to thinking.... I know my first 99 is going to be HP, unless I alter my playing style unnaturally to let something else be it. And I really don't see any big thing about having a HP cape as your first one, and I really don't want to lay off on doing stuff I find fun to spend beaucoups of gp to make farming my first 99. It'll destroy my love of farming.

So, I'm going to make the quest cape my goal. :) :) :) I know, it's a natural choice, but I often hold off on quests because of you goobs. And I love questing, except when I hate it. Case in point, I'm delaying Mourning's End because I have to mess with those damn sheep again. :tsk:

Chris Chandler
2nd of May, 2008, 01:27
The multi-colored sick sheep?

Maybe you get to kill them without herding them.

LadyGlutter

LightBringer

No problem, big guy. I know you were ready to get the hell out of there. :)

I'll be out there. My main focus is back to slayer, but I'm up for trawling. I be sure to carry some tele runes on me.

Chris Chandler
7th of May, 2008, 00:31
I should be there, barring any yanks for my attention.

Oh, I got a clue scroll of a jelly, nearly died (and pissed LG off greatly when I sent a few pot shots toward a revenant vampire), and was rewarded with 80 nats, some purple sweets, a rune full and Zammy Legs! W00t! I owned them for all of five minutes, selling them quickly at mid-price. It was a nice rewarding end for something that, lately, I've been really annoyed at doing. I'm halfway done with the jellies and have netted almost half a mil from them.

LightBringer

Okay, here's the question I asked LG about. What's with the download specs 'update'?

I understand how those things help with games that we buy at the store, but shouldn't they be more concerned about connection speed? I can barely stay connected with dial-up as it is.

Edit: Yeah quit trying to steal LG's corner on character death. LOL

Chris Chandler

I missed this question.

I can understand that, but I'm not really sure just how much Jagex can control how fast we get the bytes. Now, they can refine the game so that it is easier to parse. I'd address that first and foremost. It is a resource hog, even when I play during lunchtime.

Hey, so I started thinking just now about the fact that Crazy doesn't know the name of W 64 Chat. (That's it, btw.) That's the big chat I discovered about a month or two ago that I go on when I want company and don't have you two to amuse me. You might not be interested, but then again, you might enjoy it on occasion for something different, Crazy. Ralig and I have both had fun with those goobs. :)

I'm super low on runes. That Recipe ending finished off my already depleted stocks from way back when I spent that lunch in the mage training place.

*checking bank*

Chris, if you would be so kind, what I need to have my minimums of each is:

200 law runes
500 airs
1000 earth
900 water

I also could use some sharks, but I don't know how stocked up you are, right now, Crazy. I've got plenty of midlevel food, so I'd only really want like 100 or so. On this one, I'm not planning on fighting anything major anytime soon.

There's really no rush, whenever either of you have them. I'm kind of hesitant to post this, because we've all been preoccupied with Epic and haven't spent as much time as usual so I don't know what your reserves are at. But, it is part of why we set up the thread.

If you want me to stock up on ranarrs, potions, battlestaves, or other goods and services I can provide, let me know and I'll get on that myself. ;)

Chris Chandler
7th of June, 2008, 00:47
I'll be able to knock those out for you. I'll take a break this afternoon, get your runes, then we can make a trade before I come home. It won't take me long to craft them.

LadyGlutter
7th of June, 2008, 00:49

LightBringer

Just for the record, I think it sucks.

LadyGlutter
2nd of July, 2008, 23:42
Well, after a day of significant playing around with things, I have mixed feelings on it. I may as well write it out.

LD is freaking odd looking now. I feel like if I end up staying in LD, that I'll get used to it eventually, just like when they changed the control panel and whatnot and I kept clicking on the wrong button to run. But, I don't like, mostly, the way the bodies of our characters are defined and the animation for walking/running and the faces is a bit creepy. Still, I used to be creeped out by certain games that now look normal to me. It's a style choice, and I can handle if things like that change, as long as they don't essentially change the game. The turoth's plunge of death is stupid looking, but if they chose to die that way it's not going to really affect my enjoyment of the game.

Those things that are, are what concerns me here more than anything.

It was crashing my compy bigtime at first, in LD or HD. Well, No Big, right, when they released Summoning even though I was playing Xaos I kept crashing, just because it was a new update and everyone was downloading it. But I still figured I could tweak it. I took all the textures and set them to low. I even played in safe mode and kept crashing.

So, I went and read the articles, and upgraded my version to Java 1.6. That helped tremendously in both modes. I found that after that, HD actually ran a good bit less clunky than LD unless I ran LD with all the textures and extras removed. That makes sense to me with my limited knowledge of how things work. Since they are using my computer to stream stuff automatically instead of feeding it through my connection, it's better. Teleporting to new areas didn't have that lag because it was reading a new area in HD. But, on the front end, it's a pain to get here onto the computer, and if your computer doesn't meet the minimums, then it's no good at all. You're stuck with an uglier version of the game (again, not a hugely big deal, I can live with having a thicker waist and spaghetti arms on my character, :P) but for with more lag, I'm not happy.

So, let's talk HD. HD is absolutely beautiful in certain landscapes. The desert and the water running up beside it is really nice looking, if you can ignore the freaky way your character moves. Oh, and your character looks much better in HD too. Those clothes (the blue with the bodice) that I had to strip off in LD, looked very very nice (I went back and checked) in HD. Putting it into full screen on HD was even better, though I have to get used to where the tools are and where to click for each screen. I'll get used to that too.

Playing without the anti-aliasing was the other big help with lag, by the way. That's in HD only.

So, here's my hope, though it may be overly optimistic: in the long run, after people have switched over to HD, that will take a lot of burden off of LD players because at least half (probably more) have put the majority of the graphic burden onto their computers, and so it will actually be easier to play in BOTH modes.

But yeah, it's gonna be a bitch to get on your compy, Crazy. I don't know what the specs are for your compy, but it might be that you would do better in HD. I kinda doubt it though. You'll have to read the articles and figure that out. Hopefully after getting over the hump of getting it actually onto the computer, it'll work better in whichever mode is appropriate, because thousands of people won't be downloading it at once. If all else fails, updating Java (which might or might not take a while) could do the trick.

LightBringer
3rd of July, 2008, 00:55
Sounds good. Like I said, I'll start trying to download it tonight. I may do the Java update first, since that won't really effect anything else on my computer to much.

LadyGlutter
19th of July, 2008, 04:02
Okay, I'm about to fuss a teensy bit.

I am doing this quest, right? And there's this suppppper easy puzzle in it, where you just put together the pieces of a hand Should be the easy part of the quest. And I have to switch graphic modes TWICE to make it work, not because i can't work the puzzle, but because it's glitched. Yeah, I finally resorted to doing a websearch on the flippin thing because I know what a freaking hand looks like!

What really gets me about it, is it's the newest quest! Surely you'd think they'd, I don't know, CHECK IT OUT seeing as how it was released like the same month as HD.

Ok, better now. Back to the trenches. :)

LightBringer
19th of July, 2008, 04:32
Here's a question for you, since HD is glitched the hell up, why wouldn't the quest they released be glitched up as well?

I mean, come on, you do remember the armor glitch right? And that's just one example.

Two weeks later, and I'm already two quests down! :) That makes me happy. So any time anyone wants to do new quests, I'm available. Interestingly, I actually can't hang my cape on my cape rack if I'm not done with the quests.

Oh, and today they changed HD to have a resizeable screen. I still am playing around with it, but so far, it makes working the controls so clunky (in weird places on the screen) that I'm probably going to either be in fully in fullscreen mode or low detail at all times now.

Oh yay, I can turn it off:

This feature is completely optional. You may activate or deactivate it via the Graphics Options, either on the login screen or in-game (accessed via the spanner icon).

Eh, no different than you, LG, pulling a 16 on the original Warcraft. I imagine that if we had WoWcrack, you'd have 3 70s, just like the boys.

LadyGlutter
22nd of August, 2008, 05:31
Hmmmmmmm, I think it's quite different.

If after 18 hours I hadn't managed to get a good hit on with my entire team... hell, if after 30 minutes, it kept regenerating any hit we got on with our best gear, then I'd know that it was going to be too much with my current situation I think, or that I was doing something wrong. I'm amazed at the stubbornness of a group of people going at it for 18 freaking hours. When I was on the original Warcraft, I actually was succeeding in those 16 hour stints. Just like your example of the boys on WoWCrack. Those hours gave them 3 70s, not a big fat nothing.

That's what surprises me, everyone getting upset at the game makers, and not even mentioning how those kids were unnecessarily stubborn.

LadyGlutter
3rd of September, 2008, 06:47
In the last two weeks, the RS economy has gone really wonky.

Flax has dropped to the low 70s. I'm thinking that kids are back in school, so all the summer projects of 99 fletching or firemaking or cooking were put on hold, and people dumped all their raw materials back in the GE. On the other hand... everyone on the street keeps asking me "when is PK coming back?" So even if they aren't gearing up for the new PK worlds, when it comes out I bet there's going to be a whole new market out there again for things like potions, good food, knives, etc.

Also, from today's news:
Two worlds (60 and 61) have been designated as suggested 'Great Orb Project' worlds (http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarticle.ws?guid=themed_worlds). While we've noticed a fair amount of activity on worlds such as 1, 2, 6 and 9, these are the main trading worlds and are often near capacity or full. Therefore, we have selected 60 and 61 so that you'll be able to log in straight away and join others who're playing this minigame (http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarticle.ws?guid=the_great_orb_project).

With this in mind do we want to keep to world 60? C has been having lag difficulties there, and today was a test day to see how it went. He says on 64 he didn't lag out once. So maybe the server issue is gone with world 64, or do we want to try and stick it out on 60? School being in probably has an effect as well there.

LightBringer

private wow servers = free wow

LadyGlutter
10th of September, 2008, 01:32
Okay, lol, that was actually the exact same amount of information as the first one. Let me ask it this way:

free wow = pirated wow ?

Outlawjc
13th of September, 2008, 02:05
no people create a server and as long as they keep their own server running its g2g. there are hundreds of free servers some are silly and others are just like the game. its pretty cool.

Outlawjc
13th of September, 2008, 02:06
unless you count that as pirated, its not on the main wow servers people created then using a program that wow put out there.

LadyGlutter
16th of September, 2008, 22:36
Well, I meant to talk to you about this in person on Friday, but forgot.

The reason I asked is because on Runescape, there are people who have private servers. Jagex at least considers it pirating. If you are caught using one, your character is shut down and the private servers are targeted by Jagex pretty regularly, so even if you aren't caught using one, your server goes down and that's it for your character. If Blizzard is cool with it, that's one thing, but I'm really cautious about what goes on our computer.

Also, didn't Vash say something about playing chess? www.funorb.com (also run by jagex) has an online chess game. If we really want to do that sometimes, we could set up dates to play each other. I've off and on wanted to learn to play chess myself, so it might be fun!

Hey we should do Law and Xaos PvP! It's alailable on Free worlds.

LadyGlutter
16th of October, 2008, 02:29
Ooooooooh -- I am intrigued. Yes, let's!!

However... Xaos is gonna be squishy! How do mages fare in PvP with no uber spells? Oh well, it'll be kewl! I like it.

Chris Chandler
16th of October, 2008, 02:47
Mages are squishy if they can't keep the tanks off of them. Were I to PvP, I'd go in ranging, but with a complement of entangles and the like. Keep folks from moving, then pound on them. A good mage would do the same, only fighters will get hurt a lot faster against maging than ranging.

Listen! C came home last night and saw something I'd toggled on the compy and was all cooled out and I realized not everyone would know it, and it might help you out LB. If you've already discovered it, cool, if not, you'll like.

When you log in, and now you get auto routed to a world, and you go to the world switcher, there's these little hearts on the side, right? You can select up to two. If you do that, on your computer (providing you have cookies enabled) on the login screen you'll have a choice of (in my case) world 60, 64, or auto. I may change that if and when we get into doing Law & Xaos to make the second one a ftp world, but either way, it's helpful! :)

I finished up Dream Mentor last night. You guys psyched me out for serious on this quest. IT WAS CAKE. I went in with a super defense potion, ranging potion and a full inventory of tuna potatoes. I completed the entire battle only using 6 potatoes. I beat the first big guy without even realizing it. I thought I was about 1/3 or midway through (based on how many shots I'd fired - I actually couldn't see damage, but was hitting 25s on the other guys), and I was getting beat up, then he collapses! WTF, mate?!

You bruisers just must be lame. It took me longer to kill the little burrowy-snail thing at the end (not that he ever did a point of damage to me).

I can now tele to Port Khazard! Lunar FTW!!! Next quest, Desert Treasure, and then I will be a spellcasting terror!

Chris Chandler

Okay, I read this week's news just now. There's a huuuuuge quest in the making, and I'm so excited. They call it the "First GrandMaster Quest" -- Doesn't that sound right up my alley?

Also, this is just plain funny:

Finally, after that huge update will come something much, much smaller! For a few days over the last weekend of November, you’ll notice Thanksgiving turkeys wandering around the map, gobbling and generally minding their own business. Hunt them down for some tasty drumsticks or find the turkeys in disguise for a special reward. Look out for more short celebration updates like this in the future. Why are Brits celebrating Thanksgiving!? "Yay for the Pilgrims! We're glad your ancestors left and survived and gained independence from us because now we take more American dollars than any for our MMORPG!" LOL

LadyGlutter

I took my slice off the market, due to getting frustrated at watching it drop 5 million in as many days... +/- 5%.. Oh, we mean 10%!... apparently. And also because of this:

We have made a couple of changes to the behaviour and drop tables of the tormented demons. Due to the layout of the area they are in, they didn't behave the way we had planned, and a knock-on effect of this was that they became a lot easier to defeat. We also made an error when we calculated how many demons players would normally be able to kill over a certain period of time, which resulted in the dragon platebody parts being dropped at a more frequent rate than we had intended. To fix these problems, and to balance the demons to our initial design, the following changes have been made:

The demons will behave more appropriately against Ranged and Magic attacks, and not try to use melee attacks if the opponent is attacking them from a distance.

The drop chances of the individual dragon platebody pieces have been reduced to give the drop rate we intended, considering the frequency at which they are killed.
From the forums, quoted from Jagex staff.

So, here's the thing. All pieces, the shard, the lump, and the slice, are the exact same prices in the ge. Why is that? A "random" drop is so incredibly evenly dropped that the prices don't vary a cent?

So... I don't know if I'm doing the right thing by taking it out of the GE or not. I have real concerns... trust issues, if you will. :)

But I'm looking at it like this: I did this quest and got 400,000 experience. Right there, it was worth doing. Yes, I spent about 1.5 million doing the quest. I've made that up easily selling herbs, and expect to be back to the point where I can buy dragon chain in two days. I am going to do that, by the way, because the price of those went way down and is climbing again, now that people see this.

I'm going to let it sit in my bank and not worry about it for a while. In two months, if it's worth 40k, then it's worth 40k. 40k or 1/3 of a dragon plate isn't half bad. But if they truly are adjusting the drop rate, then these goobs dumping their pieces for junk... well.. the pieces became rarer, and all those people who just finished the quest won't be flooding the market either.

I only wish I'd done two things different -- not sold the elite, and actually gone and camped out at the Tormented Demons like I meant to while the getting was good. And even that... well, I love the game, but it's a flawed game and I know that in a week things are likely to change. So, I'm overall happy, and I'm letting the drama stay with the big merchanting class out there. That's just not me anyway.

LightBringer
6th of December, 2008, 10:29

LadyGlutter
24th of January, 2009, 02:53
Yay for patience paying off. I haven't checked prices for a long time, but did this morning. Elite black bodies are back down to roughly the price I sold mine at. Whew! Now just gotta wait on someone to sell their status symbol, and I won't be worrying about future quests. :) Also, dragon platebodies are 8.5 mil right now. >.< My 13 million dragon piece is 2.4. That's cool though, because I am seriously considering buying up the others and having a spiffy platebody, even if it's not that big a deal anymore to other folks.

ETA: never let Dunk chose your clothes and hair, unless you want to be royal blue head to toe. I suspect he's a Saradomist.

Well Wow has lost its luster to me now that we are back to raiding. It saddens me that the expansion didn't last as long and the quests ended rather quickly. I don't feel riped off but I do feel like they didn't try as hard as they did on the burning Crusade even though the BC was not lore while WotLK is a huge chunk of the lore.
I am now waiting on Diablo 3 hoping that it will fill the void but in the mean time I am going to try out Sacred 2 and NWN 2 and maybe even play around on runecrack from some friends.

Alright. We're officially moving to world 124 except for penguins, GOP, PC, and the like. :)

Outlaw, I'm gonna remind you, if you ever wanna play with us, you gotta let us know your name! I have a free character, named Lady Xaos, and of course, LadyGlutter is my "main".

ALSO -- Vonapier, what was the name of that game you were playing the other day?

Have you guys heard anything about this game? (http://www.mortalonline.com/) I was looking for pictures of half orc women to show Ian what XaXa looked like, and google image search linked to a really good pic (http://www.mortalonline.com/files/races/FemaleHalfOrcInText.jpg), much more similar to how I mentally see XaXa's facial features than the nasty picture in the D&D handbook, from their website. (That's a drawing of a full orc, in my opinion.) Anyway, Chris and I were wondering have you heard of it? The screenies are absolutely beautiful.

LadyGlutter

As you may know, we recently made some changes to the Culinaromancer’s chest in Lumbridge and the gnome cuisine fruit ‘n’ veg shop in the Grand Tree. We have now reconsidered these changes, and have decided to implement a different approach: we have returned the shops’ stock prices to their former state, and have removed the option to sell stock back to those shops.
Finally, we’ve taken on board the feedback you gave us about last month’s quest list improvement, and made changes in response to some common issues. New text makes it clear when not all quests are shown, but the best improvements are behind the scenes: the options you set before you log out will be there again when you return, and we have greatly reduced the delay involved in switching the list between quests and achievements.

They listened. w00t!

Runescape is incredibly over the top glitchy today. So far, I've heard, you can't summon familiars, you can't step west after lighting a fire, I couldn't get into my bank, POH rooms are locked, aggressive monsters aren't aggressive, you can't cast certain spells.... (Or Dr. Horrible (http://www.drhorrible.com/mushortio.html), for that matter. But that's another matter, it's just Joss Whedon [from Buffy] writing and Felicia Day acting and zomg, yum! So much fun!)

Anyway, I didn't know. I've linked to it on the blog, and maybe here, but that doesn't mean you've watched it. It's all the characters in that video, playing an unknown MMO (WoW). But we agreed you'd absolutely love the crap out of it, if you had the time to watch. So funny!

I was quite shocked to find a letter from Xaxa waiting for me, as well.

I can't wait to see Merrimoon.

Btw, the reason I haven't been out to RS is that virus smacked a lot of my files while I was trying to, and succeeding in, kicking it's ass. It seems to have really done a job on my Java folders. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Java, but RS keeps telling me that Java's not on my computer. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

LightBringer
1st of April, 2010, 05:46
SOooooo, I finally got Java working and managed to sign into RS for a short bit yesterday.

Lol, the first thing I noticed was that I had 850 hit points. That tickled me and made me smile, but I just about fell out when I hit for 303 points of damage. LOL What do they think?!? That they're WoW?

Other than that, there were the same people in the GE bitching about fletching being boring, yada yada.

I must say though, there seemed to be fewer people wandering around. I may have caught it at an odd time though.

LadyGlutter
1st of April, 2010, 08:32
The reasoning behind the X10 hp was because when a chicken hits you for 1 or 2 hp early on, that's 10-20% of your hitpoints. X10 gives them a little more room to help out those n00bs. Yeah, surprising, it was a n00b update.

I need to log in myself and do the Easter event. Quite frankly I'm a little burnt out of RS in general, anyway. It got to be like a job recently and that's the death of any game for me. I don't blame RS itself, but maybe it is their fault. Since Nomad it hasn't been the same for some reason.

Chris Chandler
1st of April, 2010, 13:22
It's all about Nomad for me. the quest was a bruiser and the contention about the quest just really made it not-fun. I'll likely get more involved, but I just need a break from it right now. Been playing a few single-player games I'd been meaning to instead.

I do check in every once in a while, but I dunno... meh.

I'm dying to do the whole Easter Bunny Jr. nonsense, lemmetellya. ;)

In other news, I died by being shot out of a cannon last night on WoW. And it made me happy.

So, the new RS skill is here... Dungeoneering. Let's see how that pans out.

LadyGlutter
13th of April, 2010, 20:59
To be fair, I was told how not to die. I just forgot to pull up at the last moment.

And dungeoneering. Woo. Pretty sure they said it was going to be a unique skill.

LightBringer
14th of April, 2010, 00:16
Ahhh, yes, it helps to pull up. lol

I saw that yesterday, but didn't make any effort to go to the new area they created. It's on the side of the wild, so I wonder if they are going to allow pk'ing?

LadyGlutter

So, someone was jonesing pretty bad today to get onto WoW... :D He called me and couldn't wait til I got home to put in my info to rez his character... Heehee, I can't believe I've recorrupted the group. Chris is the lone holdout!

Lol, I had a good time run through the Chasm with Luthious and Merri!! Keep me updated on your levels, since you'll probably run past my 'Lock. I'll give you the name of my rogue if you catch him before he gets to 80, and we can do some dungeons.

Have you used the new random dungeon feature yet?

Someone got a farming level without letting me see fireworks.

Boo.

Speaking of which, I'm awfully close to 94. ;)

Dungeoneering is... not the skill I'd hoped for.

In other news, my computer appears to have power supply issues right now. I'm not avoiding WoW for any reason except I can't get my computer to stay on for more than 12 seconds. :depry::tsk::cry:

Now, in WoW, ive lost the will to pvp and some aspects of pve. It may be for that time to just drop wow soon. But in the mean time that i am still here ill drop my two cents and we will see who wants to spend it or keep it.

Ive been thinking alot about the crafting systems, I think it to be a good idea gone wrong. This system could have gone soo much better if they just took some extra time and started making them all complex. NOW and idea on how to do this, instead of just QQing, is to make it to where every profession could mesh with one another. Now i know that you can make some leather gloves then pop and enchant on it and put a gem inside of them after slotting it with black smithing, sure, BUT what if they put a slight spin in it?

Lets stick with the leather gloves. Druids and Rogues could use this item of course, BUT WHAT IF we got, oh say, blacksmiths to make some plating for gloves? eh? metal plating+gloves=some mail piece OR hell some plate mail piece!

Now lets not stop there! lets put a stop to the tier process. By this i mean lets not grind x amount of peacebloom for herbalists for this amount of potions. Lets instead incorporate a system where it UTILIZES that same peacebloom into later potions. For example, lets use peacebloom for a more effective potion than useing something like goldclover. What if peacebloom provided more of an effect and made a better item? On that subject, lets talk about random! Would it hurt to put a little randomness and diversity in the profession that is alchemy. BUT WAIT! lets not stop there! Lets talk more!

Now lets say we used my handy dandy alchemical skills to make a potion. Knowing my extensive knowledge of alchemy, i know that i might need a little more kick than just my gay little flower power can accomplish. We might need a dust or powder from, oh lets say, METAL! HEY, ILL NEED A SMELTER OR BLACKSMITH! hey hey! I think i just created a need to get more peacebloom and iron "dust" to make a better armor potion or elixer? Hell i might have just made a better gaming experience by shocking a little more life back into the lower level areas of the game? HELL id foresee a rise in prices for the economy!

Now far be it from me to say wow is a bad game. Its an awesome game and it very well my be around for a few more years, if not more. But with a few teeny, tiny ideas like this should help it become a much better game. Keep your kid graphics, keep the easy playability, but Jesus Christ lets get a little more diversity in the fucking game to keep the "Veteran" players goin in OTHER ways than throwing "endgame" content at us.

LightBringer

Okay Von, I'll take your 2 cents, and give you some change.

You don't go into any details on your lost will to PVP, and I have no direct input(since you don't PVP where I PVP).

I'm at a loss as to which style of PVP you are tired of. I mean, you can do any of the, what 8, battlegrounds, any time you choose. There's 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 arena, all of which take different tatics. Heck there's just PUGing arena now that I think about it (where you sign up and get assigned a random partner/s). There is also just ganking some low levels until they get some higher levels to come and try to run you away. Then you get to test your skills against them in a less formal arena style match. You could outnumber them. They could outnumber you. Trying to outwit them while getting your body back. It's almost endless. Is it that you are so great you never lose? Or, are you sucking wind so much you never win? (I'm closer to the second category myself, but I still love PVPing.)

As far as the skills go, I agree that they could be a little more robust. I am confused though that you say they need to be more complex, then start taking out materials, like goldclover, and simply want to use peacebloom for higher levels potions. This seems like making it simpler to me, not more complex.

Now if they did like you are suggesting later in you post, and bring peacebloom back with another agent to make a more potent version of something, that is adding some complexity, and making the materials a little more valuable. I wouldn't say they would dramatically increase, since peacebloom is still a common herb, but they would go up some, due to more useage.

I think they do, do a good job of meshing the professions. What I would rather see though, is the ability to learn 3 or even 4 professions. It would allow those players that just want to buy their skills to continue doing so, but those of us who like to be self-reliant could do more things on our own. Like you said, I would love to skin my kill, craft my 'gloves', socket them, and cut my own gems to place in them. I'd still have to buy the gems, since I can't mine, or have someone slot them, since I wouldn't have blacksmithing. So you wouldn't be able to do EVERYTHING on your own, but it would be close.

As far as Veteran players go, there's nothing but end game content to add for them. It's that way for every game I've ever played. It's like saying, 'Add another freaking goblin to your campaign DM. I know my level 50 Warrior won't get any XP for them, but I'm tired of just killing the green ones!' They could make all the new low level products they want, but why would any skill level 450 make them. Even if they made new high level items, you are maxed out on level. That doesn't convince me to start making those new items (unless they could be useful to my toon), or drop my current profession and learn a whole new one for a few new shinies. So, I'm afraid no matter how much you think that adding end game content sucks, for the majority of maxed out toons, that is the only way to add new stuff for them, and keep them interested. :worry:

Even so, I find it hard to believe you've explored every inch of the world, and completed every achievement, and maxed out every reputation available. If you have, I give you cudo's, but if you haven't, then there is still plenty to do.

Btw, I miss Gnomecleats! :\

Vonapier
10th of May, 2010, 09:27
i see what your saying, but getting achievements isn't what i want to do. You may like it but it just isn't my cup of tea. And yes i have explored all the regions of WoW, over 5 years i know most of the place by heart and the places i dont is because i have no need to be there. Also, in my honest opinion, i dont want to be "topped out" so to speak. Not being able to progress further in the game due to no content. It sucks, it happens to all of us but it sucks.

Now after digging in internet for 2 days i have found Fallen Earth. Fallen Earth is almost similar to Fallout 3 BUT with all the mix and professions i was QQing about. This (http://www.fallenearth.com/node/12) is what i was looking for. It greatly appeals to me. And yes i do agree with you that one should be able to learn 3 or 4 professions in WoW. I have been discouraged in placing faith into blizzard with The World of Warcraft due to the terms of service i read while trying to find a way to send them my idea personally. It reads as follows:

"We appreciate the time and energy people put into making suggestions for our current and future games. Our company policy, however, prevents us from accepting for review any unsolicited ideas. Often in our industry, an idea being submitted will be identical or similar to one already used by other companies, or already being independently developed by or for a company. Therefore, Blizzard Entertainment® has adopted the unalterable policy of refusing to accept or look at any unsolicited submissions or ideas. You can post your suggestions to our Suggestions Forum (http://forums.battle.net/board.html?forumId=12016&sid=3000)."

I just want to experiment with skill based games from this point forward. I like the way G.U.R.P.S. had skills. Romarez from the recent G.U.R.P.S. campaign was very skilled in axes and if my character picked one up i wouldnt be as skilled, therefore i would have lost in any contest of skill. That system is what intrigues me, and this game has just that.

With that being said/typed, I will just play wow till my time runs out then ill play Fallen Earth or quit playing MMO's completely for the time being. I could use the money and i have Oblivion and diablo 2 to keep my company anyhow.

LightBringer
12th of May, 2010, 00:57
I agree fully with you on the Topped Out aggrevation, but that's part of every game I believe. Every video, and MMO type game, that is.

Well, it sucks about the terms, but really that's any company who is making tons of money. Last thing Blizzard needs is someone taking them to court claiming some idea was theirs, and trying to get some kind of payout. Yes, you wouldn't to that, but there are plenty of people who would, and I'd wager a few who did. That's usually how a company ends up with a set of terms like that.

LadyGlutter
12th of May, 2010, 10:53
That was exactly what I thought when I read the terms. There's very little other way for them to cover their asses.

I don't think you're qqing. I just think that sometimes games get old. Five years is a long time, after all. I can't do the kind of intense gaming that you guys had, anyway, and I'm a newby. I'd be burnt out in no time. Do what you like to take a break, but know that on Spinebreaker some of your besties are out there goofing off and would love to have you. :)

lol I think im putting down wow for a while. Ive picked up EVE Online with Daniel and he and i are having a blast! Then again im having a blast just at my job. NOT to mention im finally getting paid next week. cant wait. Its gonna be like i dunno lol 200 dollars, im expecting that much. It most likely would be more but OH WELL :) better to get more and expect less than to expect more and get less.

So, ill just wait and bide my time till im in a great position for some expansion of the financial type.......I might need a new washer and dryer. >:(

LadyGlutter
14th of May, 2010, 07:41
You make no sense, and this thread shows it doesn't have to be that way. :D

Who is Daniel?

And don't you need the washer/dryer hookup first? Like a place to put it? Like a house/apartment/etc?

Vonapier
15th of May, 2010, 15:21
I make no sense because i suck at the english language i guess lol. and the washer and dryer at my home atm are giving all of us a hard time. i think its time for them to crap out. So ill invest in a new set or combo or what not.

Daniel is my friend, blake and jared know him. In fact i just spent the last 3 days over at his house. He and i have had a freakin blast.

LadyGlutter

So, were you hacked 3 times? Did you get an authenticator 3 times? I thought you thought authenticators would get you hacked. I'm not sure what you meant. :S

Also, big congrats to Val.

Though it's funny, because I'm trying to string my leveling out as slow as possible by not doing dungeons and stuff. I even got a little bit excited when Val was nerfing our exp the other day, because I could just play without worrying about leveling. But on the other hand I feel like I have to get 80 to hang with you guys at all now. So I guess I feel both ways.

Chris Chandler
7th of August, 2010, 09:10
I agree. I'm surprised how much of this game is the destination, and not the journey. I was really looking forward to doing stuff with folks, no matter the power level.

LightBringer
9th of August, 2010, 04:45
Lol. When I read it, I saw.

I have been hacked for the third, and what will be the last time. I now have an Authenticator to prevent hacking.

I think a lot of WoW is the journey, but what happens is the false sense of 'things'. Sometimes it's a false sense of emergency. Other times it's a false sense of waste, as well as others false senses.

You feel like you are falling behind. You feel like you have to always be maximizing your time. You have the desire to see what's right around the corner. Pick a reason, I'm sure there are hundreds more.
