Ok everyone, due to the (apparent) success of the Freeport game I am currently running, I have decided to start up a second game totally unrelated to Freeport.

I am looking for 3 or 4 (maybe 5, pending on circumstances) players who can post quite regularly (once every two days at least).

So far, I already have a couple of people possibly interested (you know who you are), but for it to be a confirmed interest, you need to post here with a character concept and a simple (read, simple) background. If there are more players than positions, I will possibly ask more of you.

The setting I will be using is from the Greyhawk Realms sourcebook. I have chosen to set the game in the Caliphate of Ekbir (think Arabian-ish style setting, but slightly less desert). I will be quite willing and happy to post additional information to you.

There is also some other information to be posted below this advertisment.. :D

Population
The caliphate itsself contains roughly 1.9 million citizens in its towns, cities and the nomadic tribes that roam the plains. Primarily a human-dominated land, the other races aren't unknown, with the halfling race being the primary minority race (~2% of the population), then the elven-folk (~1%), then all other races combined (also ~1%).

The race of human that inhabit the caliphate is known as the Baklunish. They are typified by golden-toned skin, straight and fine textured hair ranging from a dusky brown to bluish-black in hue, and either grey-green or green eyes. Grey or hazel colored eyes are rare, but have been seen. Their builds are long of limb and in facial features, with high cheekbones.

Many of the demi-human races also have darker skin tones than their more easternwise bretheren, due to the sun that beats down over the lands.

Language
The main languages spoken in Ekbir is Baklunish and Common. Baklunish is actually the ancestor of the common tongue of Oerth (the planet that Ekbir lies on), but bears little resemblance to its offspring tongue.

Many of the Baklunish dialects are colloquial, and are commonly known as Low Baklunish. Ancient Baklunish is the standard literary form of the language, and is used in religion, mythology, and poetry and the fine arts. In addition to this, Ancient Baklunish is the official language of all diplomatic documents of the caliphate.

Despite all this, Common is still widely known and used in Ekbir, especially by traders and the educated.

Currency
The standard names of the coinage are as follows:
Star (platinum)
Cup (gold)
Galley (electrum)
Charger (silver)
Sentry (copper)

The currency rates are standard PHB rates.
1 pp = 10 gp
1gp = 2ep
1gp = 10 sp
1sp = 10 cp

If you wish to play a cleric of a different god from either the PHB or a god of a different portfolio altogether, please contact me and let me know and I will either accept/reject your petition (in the case of the former), or suggest a few gods to choose from (in the case of the latter).

i would love to play but before i take the time to build a character (a lg paladen sounds fun) I need to know if you are interested in playing with someone who has never played on the net befor. I have played AD&D for years and am fairly new to 3rd ed. . I look forward to your answer and would understand if you do not have the time on inclination to deal with a newbee.

I am also new to the online dnd gaming, but it sounds like a lot of fun and I would love to play. I was thinking about a chaotic good human fighter named Ugan.

He is brash, opinionated and his tongue moves faster than his mind. He often regrets what he has said, but will defend it until he is blue in the face. He enjoys a strong mug and a long smoke by the fire over almost any activity, and often lets other things go when there is ale to be drunk. Many would say Ugan is lazy, but he would tell you he simply has his priorities in order. Given the choice he would rather tell you a tall tale about his adventures than set out on any more. However, his big mouth and his hot temper seem to to force him into situations that he would rather not be in.

Should I roll him up and send him to you?

Arathia: Yeap, i can read PDF's ... (gotta live Acrobat Reader). If yopu feel like playing, email me your character sheet as per the guidelines at the top of this thread.

Garuush: Your character looks fine, the only problem I saw with it was that your Initiative is +3 rather than +1.

beergeek: CG fighter sounds good. Email the character sheet to me also

malimax: Paladin is good. Possible gods that you can be a paladin of are Al'Akbar (ahl-AHK-bar), or Pelor (PAY-lor).

Could you just clarify the languages? You can start with both Baklunish and Common if you have no Int bonus?

Kahluah

Ok, I probably should have made this a little clearer ...

Everybody starts off with Common. Baklunish is a bonus language that is freely available if you have a high enough intelligence.

Many people in Ekbir (and in the other Baklunish states) often choose Baklunish as a second language (many clerics, bards, and wizards, and all aristocratic classes have to choose Baklunish or be at a severe disadvantage in their order/church/court).

beergeek and Garuush: I have both of your character sheets on my records, both look fine.

beergeek: with your character, i just need a simple background to go with it, just so I can use things to hook him in, and use against him.

the background thing goes for all characters. I just want some things that I can use and all. Also, can you please give me a reason to be in the middle citizen end of the city of Ekbir (capital city), preferably around the area of the market place.

If you 4 can get there, I will work on how to get you out... ;)

Ok, got your pc, malimax ... looks good.

one thing with your history though, Ekbir is a port city (metropolis to be exact), and 40 miles north of there would actually be more in the Drawmij Ocean... :P

I can shift your town so it is about 40 miles north east, on the Ekbiri coastline, and you won't be swimming .. :D

I believe that you were trying to tell me (Ugan) about
the port city being incorrect. Not malimax :)
I have made the change.

Oh... whoops.... You're right, it was Ugan, not Voldimir (sp??) that would have needed to take swimming lessons if his town didn't move onto the mainland..

my bad.. :D

My character is a wondering nomad. There's no reason for him not to be in the city at the market square.
