View Full Version : Gladiator Tournament II - Loser's Bracket: Rakesh vs. Yarden

Black Plauge

It's the battle of the double-D's!

You couldn't avoid the innuendo that Dwarven Defender and Dragon Disciple left open could you?

Have you ever known me to avoid innuendo?

*sigh* Rakesh and Yarden, introduce yourselves to the crowd.

Rakesh:
Crowd Attitude: 15.5 (Liked, +2 attacks & damage)
Spells: 3/3/8
HP: 162

Yarden:
Crowd Attitude: 5.125 (Appreciated, +1 attacks & damage)
HP:

Rakesh and Yarden have 24 hours to post their round 1 action. This action is supposed to be for showmanship.

Lord Twig
3rd of November, 2007, 03:32
Yarden stumps away from the hedge and toward the edge of the arena, he gives Rakesh a quick nod then starts to twirl his ax around in a display of martial skill.

OOC:
If Yarden goes first:
Move to I38, perform weapon drill +20.

If Yarden goes second:
Same, but move may alter depending on where Rakesh goes. Yarden doesn't want to end up adjacent to him or something like that. If Rakesh is too close Yarden would forgo his weapon drill and would just activate his shield instead.

Notes:
Dodge Opponent is Rakesh and will remain so unless stated otherwise.
Glove of Storing on weapon hand.
Yarden is not carrying his tower shield. (And never has, I keep forgetting to mention that.)

SlagMortar

Rakesh enters the arena, still fuming about his loss to Spikey. He eyes Yarden from across the arena. He chants arcane words and his speed increases. He lopes across the arena, finishing out his chant in the common tongue.
"The reluctant, patient, slow, immovable object
Meets the dynamic, exciting, irresistible force
If I weren't fighting, the crowd might object.
Fortunate this is your last match, of course."

OOC:
Cast Expeditious Retreat and move to L24

Lord Twig
3rd of November, 2007, 06:29
"So much for impressing the crowd. Rakesh seems more interested in just getting to the beating." Yarden grins. "I guess I will oblige."

He speaks a command word and takes to the air. Flying up, his ax disappears from his hand and he pulls his sap; standing ready to engage his Draconic opponent.

OOC:
Activate shield as Standard action. Call ax into glove as Free action. Move 15' up and to G37, pulling masterwork sap as he goes.

Yarden has 24 hours to post his round 3 action.

Lord Twig
6th of November, 2007, 05:52
"You don't like my flying? You're the one with great, beastly wings sprouting from your back. You say you can bring me down? Well, come get me then!" Yarden hunches defensively behind his shield and remains where he is and waits for Rakesh.

Well, Yarden timed Rakesh's jump perfectly and got a blow in

Yeah, but Rakesh turned the tables and pulled Yarden's shield away from him, causing the stout dwarf to fall. Fortunately for Rakesh, Yarden is a tough nut and the fall didn't do any harm. Had it been a longer fall or had Yarden hit wrong, Rakesh could have been faced with penalties for dealing lethal damage to early.

Yarden has 24 hours to post his round 4 action.

Lord Twig
7th of November, 2007, 10:21
"I said come get me and you came and got my shield!" Yarden cries as he lands hard on the ground. Resuming a wide stance in his characteristic style, Yarden takes a few steps toward Rakesh and swings his sap at him before quickly bending and picking up his shield.

Rakesh's chain lashes out at Yarden's feet, but the end result is that Yarden rotates upright again and his feet can be seen to hover a few inches off the ground. "Now did you want to try for me this time? Or are the little wings on my shield just too intimidating for you?"

OOC:
Assume Defensive Stance. 5' Step to F36. Attack Rakesh with Masterwork Sap with Combat Expertise (-5 to hit/+5 AC). Pickup shield as a move action.

"Okay, how 'bout I leave it over here.
Then you drop your shield and we will go from there.
But I really must say that axe is not real nice.
It would look much better with a great big slice."

Surprisingly, he drops his spiked chain, and then bounds past the dwarf while drawing his guisarme. He swings a wicked blow, powering it into the haft of the axe as Yarden does his best to parry.

Well, Yarden isn't one to forget the rules and he's switched out his sap in favor of his axe.

Rakesh seems afraid of that, he's going after the axe, not Yarden.

Yarden has 24 hours to post his round 6 action.

Lord Twig
9th of November, 2007, 08:59
"What?" Yarden looks confused as Rakesh drops his chain and sprints around him, but he still has the sense to turn his axe when Rakesh's newly drawn guisarme crashes down on it. "I didn't think you would actually drop your weapon! But I guess a deal is a deal."

Yarden steps away from the bush that Rakesh is now hiding behind and drops his shield. "And you seemed to not care for my axe either. So..." he puts his axe back in his glove. He pulls his own guisarme from his back, the long weapon seeming far to big to fit in the small quiver he retrieves it from. "There, now it is an even fight."

Yarden curses as the ground under him suddenly becomes slick. "By the gods!" Yarden yells in fury. "Are you so afraid to face a man on his feet? Is the only way you can fight is if they are on the ground and unable to hit back? I thought this was a tournament for gladiators? If these antics are the best you can do I'm sure Duke Soloth could use a fool, you look funny enough." Yarden steps back out of the grease and stands ready.

Yarden slashes once back at Rakesh then stands ready once again. "Well? Go ahead! Knock me over and hit me while I'm on the ground again. It's the only way you know how to fight." Yarden's lips sneer at Rakesh.

Well, Yarden's certianly getting a work out with all the squat thrusts he's doing in full armor.

Unfotunately, that isn't enough to get him the win. Rakesh's tactic of repeatedly tripping the dwarf, and thus preventing him from really attacking full bore has paid off and the match has ended.

You've got to admit though, that last hit of Rakesh's was pretty cool.

I don't have to admit any such thing.

Voting will close on Friday, 16 November, 2007. Rakesh should PM me recovery plans by then as well.
