I am recruiting for a 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons PBEM campaign. You can post here if you are interested or email rythunia@yahoo.com
Introduction for the Main Character:
You have grown up in the city of Torentium. Your father was born in Imundry, a territory of the distant country of Rythunia. He left his homeland to serve for many years as an officer of the Aurelian army. After completing his service, he began a business in Torentium, and hired some of his former soldiers as servants. These servants call your father "the brigadier." Your father is a man of few words, and he never discusses his early life beyond these basic items.
One day, travelers from Rythunia arrive. They beg your father to return to his land of birth. Your grandfather was the rightful heir to become the king of Rythunia, but a usurper killed him and seized the throne. Your father was forced to flee. The current false king of Rythunia is a cruel tyrant.
Your father announces that he is now too old for such adventures. The delegation from Rythunia convinces you to return to your homeland with them and wage war against the false king to regain your birthright.
Characters:
One player must create the main character. At least one other character in the group must be a younger sibling of the main character. The main character and his brother must be humans. Any other characters could also be members of the family, family servants, friends of the main character, or members of the delegation from Rythunia. If you have a better idea for a way to tie your character into the storyline, let the DM know!
Create a first level character using the 32-point buy method, as described in the DMG. It is very important that players read the campaign rules before creating characters. They can be downloaded from www.geocities.com/rythunia/rules.pdf. (the hyperlink will not work. You must write it into the address bar)
Additional Information from the Delegation:
There are four members of the delegation: Hilran, an older merchant, the farmers Kinnath and Kinnian, and the young Linwil, son of a prosperous landlord. From them you learn the following information:
Fifty years ago, the last noble members of the ruling family of Rythunia were killed by a plague. There was a dispute regarding which relative was next in line to inherit the throne. Gunrix of Imundry had the clearest claim, but many of the feudal lords disliked him for his sympathetic attitude towards the lower classes. They did not want their authority over their subjects to be questioned. His rival for the throne, Agmus of Volenfield, alleged that Gunrix was born of an adulterous affair and therefore ineligible.
Only the rightful ruler of Rythunia can wield the clan regalia - a magical crown, scepter, and amulet. The scepter was lost in a battle with Thudacia 100 years past, and a mysterious woman took the amulet long ago.
The crown of Rythunia was stolen right after the death of the last ruler. Agmus accused Gunrix of stealing the crown. Andrad, the son of Agmus, returned from a quest with the missing clan amulet. The high druid of Rythunia verified its authenticity. By wielding the amulet, Agmus proved that he was the rightful ruler.
Agmus gained the throne of Rythunia and arrested Gunrix. Gunrix was tortured to discover the location of the crown, but he died without revealing it. His lands were seized. Gunrix's son Guthnar (your father) was off serving in the Aurelian army, and only learned afterwards that his family was destroyed and he could not return home.
Shortly after Agmus gained power, Rythinhold, the traditional stronghold of Rythunian rulers, became haunted and was abandoned. A new stronghold was built in Volenfield.
Arderic, grandson of Agmus, now rules Rythunia. He is a cruel and uncaring leader who shows no mercy. Since their downfall, the noble house of Imundry have become folk heroes among the common people of Rythunia.
Additional Information from the servants:
The brigadier's faithful servants reveal the following information:
Guthnar joined the army of Aurelia as a humble cavalryman, but was quickly appointed as an officer by the Overlord. This honor came after Guthnar led a bold sneak attack that turned the tide of battle, allowing the Overlord to resist a siege of the capital in the civil war. Brigadier Guthnar was the commander of the Overlord's Sworn Cavalry, the most elite military unit of Aurelia. His leadership was considered critical in the emperor's victory in the civil war.
After the war, the Overlord's daughter became pregnant while still unmarried. The Overlord decreed that she should be sent into seclusion, and the child should be destroyed. Guthnar revealed that the child was his. Shocked at this betrayal, the Overlord allowed them to marry and keep the child, but forced Guthnar to resign and banished them from the Empire of Aurelia in humiliation.
