View Full Version : Gladiator Tournament II - Round 1: Rakesh vs. Coravel

Black Plauge

This should be a match to remember. Rakesh was mighty impressive in the grand melee.

Coravel did a good job of redeeming himself in the eyes of the crowd too, in is one on one match vs. Del.

I expect that he'll be spending some time on his back now though.

That remains to be seen. Rakesh, Coravel, introduce yourselves to the crowd.

Rakesh:
Crowd Attitude: 12 (Liked, +2 attacks & damage)
HP: 162
Spells: 3/3/8

Coravel:
Crowd Attitude: 2.75
HP: 125

Rakesh enters the arena with his guisarme in hand. He raises it to the crowd and calls out
"I watched you prance and dance with Del
And you were, in fact, untouchab-el.
But now you tangle with a REAL foe
THE TOWERING INFERNO!"

Rakesh finishes his recitation with a swift magical chant and suddenly his movements accelerate. He sprints, leaping high, and landing nearer Coravel.

OOC:
Dodge target is Coravel. Cast Expeditious Retreat. Move and jump (6 ranks + 12 Str + 16 speed + 2 syn - 2 ACP = +34) to impress the crowd.
Intent: Cast Expeditious Retreat and jump to impress the crowd.
End in a location with the following priorities:
1. where none of the monsters can attack without breaking their chain.
2. at least 15 feet away from Coravel
3. within 70 feet of Coravel
4. on a 5'x5' platform. Rather be on the ground than a 10'x10' platform.
If Coravel stays near where he is, Rakesh will end in E13 with his jump taking place over the low wall in C14.

Coravel scans his surroundings carefully before picking a spot where he can greet the crowd. Moving swiftly across the arena, Coravel then goes into the already known sequence of flips and jumps while poking invisible opponents with his rapier and carving the ground around him to form a large 'U' for Untouchable in the sand.

[Dodge target is Rakesh throughout the match unless I indicate otherwise. Activate haste as a free action, move to J6 and then 'jump around' to impress the crowd to K6, K7, and J7 (jump mod +43) and standard action to perform a weapon drill assisted by tumble (+27 +2 for assist if possible)

Note: Sorry for my short posts this time...

Edit: Non-magical rapier drawn... ;)]

Well, Coravel is off to a good start. He's prancing about and carved that 'U' of his in the sand. One wonders though why he favors that particular side of the arena for reading it.

Indeed, you'd think that he'd either rotate which part of the arena it was directed to or at least make it consistently for the nobles seated above the victory arch, under their canopy.

Coravel has 24 hours to post his round 2 action.

Coravel only nods shortly as the crowd cheers loudly in response to his usual greeting. Then he focuses on his adversary and he frowns as the restrictive tournament rules come to his mind. I'll have to keep my distance for now...

Quickly he moves through the arena, jumping easily over the obstacles in his path. Let's involve some of the... other beings here... Coravel thinks as he eyes the T-Rex at a distance. But.. I need to give the crowd something to watch, too...

Jumping onto a small wall, Coravel balances for a moment on one foot - piercing the air in front of him a few times with his rapier before hopping off of it again.

[Turn of boots as a free action; move to N4, then to Q7 and jump onto the wall in R8 (jump mod +31), balance to impress crowd (+26 +2 to assist with tumble if possible) and jump off the wall again to land in S8.]

Rakesh roars as his prey runs away. He begins to recite while flipping and running after Coravel:
"Run, run, as fast as you can.
Come on and fight like a man.
Careful you might fall down
Since you run like a clown.
You should think of a new plan."
Rakesh breezes past the Warforged and leaps the low platform and sweeps in on Coravel. His guisarme dips low to sweep the elf from his feet.
OOC:
Dodge target Coravel unless I indicate otherwise.
Accelerated tumble (+20 - 2 ACP - 10 accelerated = +8) for the entire move. Move G13 -> P13 (leaping (+34) platform in J13) -> R11 -> R10. I think that's 70 feet. Jump over platform is an attempt to impress the crowd, aided by tumble if possible.
Trip attack (Attack Bonus: +13 BAB +12 Str +1 mwk +2 morale = +28, Trip modifier +12 Str +4 feat = +16). If counter tripped, drop guisarme.
Follow up attack for non-lethal damage (Attack Bonus: +24, damage: 2d4 +18 Str +2 morale = 2d4+20).
Attacks of opportunity will be sunder attempts on the rapier (+28 +4 two-handed = +32).
If I counted wrong and can't get in range to attack Coravel, move so that Rakesh is as near Coravel as possible and then cast mirror image.

Coravel glares at Rakesh from below. In a incredibly quick and fluid motion he propels himself back on his feet though. "Not so quick, big one..." he almost growls at him as he gets up. His eyes are on Rakesh's weapon though, warily watching his opponents every move.

(I cannot really post more fluff as so much depends on rolls)

[Use the Free Stand maneuver from CA to stand up as a free action with a tumble check vs. DC 35 (tumble +28 +2 to assist with jump) and to impress the crowd vs. DC 40. Intent - as this is easiest:
=> Tumble check succeeds and Rapier is not sundered:
spring attack Rakesh (to S9) to deal non-lethal damage, fighting defensively and using combat expertise for -5/+5 to AC (attack at +25 +1 morale -4 -4 -5 = +13; damage is 3d6+6); then move away tumbling at full speed to S15.
=> Tumble check fails and Rapier is not sundered:
5' step to Rakesh (to S9) and single attack to deal non-lethal damage, fighting defensively and using combat expertise for -5/+5 to AC (attack at +25 +1 morale -4 -4 -5 = +13; damage is 3d6+6)
=> Tumble check succeeds and Rapier is sundered:
spring attack Rakesh (to S9) to deal non-lethal damage drawing the magical rapier as part of the move, fighting defensively and using improved combat expertise for -10/+10 to AC (attack at +27 +1 morale -4 -4 -10 = +10; damage is 3d6+8, Con 1); then move away tumbling at full speed to S15.
(If drawing a weapon as a part of the spring attack movement is not possible, see below)
=> see parentheses above or Tumble check fails and Rapier is sundered:
5' step to R7, (wiggle ears as free action), total defense as standard action.

And... I'll do the tumble check myself (without the +2 to assist):

Rakesh smiles as his weapon smashes through the rapier, and his smile broadens at Coravel's feeble stab. He decides he likes where Coravel is located and determines to keep him in the area while putting on a show for the crowd.

"Elf keeps sword in hand
Not on ground, as requested
Rakesh take toy away."

He leaps foward and grabs at Coravel's weapon, knowing that the judges have not yet permitted its use. He continues his movement and winds up standing near Coravel, ready to grapple him if he goes for his weapon.

OOC: Standing broad jump (+34) to R14 to impress the crowd. Remove one hand from guisarme. Spring attack with unarmed disarm to grab rapier (+13 BAB +12 Str + 2 morale -4 light weapon = +23). Finish move at P17 regardless of success or failure.

As Rakesh makes broad jump towards him Coravel smiles and nods - which then turns into a frown as Rakesh moves up close surprisingly. What does he... Coravel thinks as his eyes turn wide suddenly when Rakesh's chant gives his intention away.

Coravel's eyes narrow dangerously. His whole body starts shaking slightly and the knuckles of the hand on his rapier are turning white as Rakesh leisurely reaches out and makes a grab for the rapier. "You... cowardly... brute! Foul Play!" He barely manages to exclaim through clenched teeth as his coloring darkens considerably. As Rakesh continues to reach for the rapier unperturbed of Coravel's bleat, Coravel instinctively and with growing anger unleashes the power of his rapier, striking swiftly on Rakesh's forearm and causing him to pull back in dire pain. Take THIS for your foul play! Coravel shouts in his face, a bit of foam showing around his mouth.

Wait... what... ugh...

The next instant, Coravel's rage receds as he realizes what he has done...

Ah... now that will cost me... I'd better disengage for now... until those judges finally think it's time for the real contest to start. Shaking his head and frowning shortly, Coravel turns away from Rakesh and towards the huge predator. Shrugging shortly he tumbles towards him, feints to the left and then dodges the T-Rex to the right.

The T-Rex never really processed what is going on as Coravel is already out of his reach once more and continues his path across the arena.

Let's give the other half something to cheer at, Coravel thinks as he runs up to a low wall, jumps onto it and almost seems to glide over it and off it on the other end.

Rakesh watches Coravel flee. With his chances to get the elf during the non-lethal period at an end, he prepares his defenses. Words like a poem form on his lips, but only those versed in magic recognize them. Then the familiar site of a pack of Towering Infernos burst onto the scene as Rakesh moves toward the center of the arena.
