View Full Version : What if

What if the War in Europe had ended differently?

If Germany under the charismatic rule of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich had successfully invaded Britian? And if D-Day became the largest military failure in human history? If Stalin failed and the Soviet Union fell to German Panzer? Would Germany step towards further War on the Americas?

And What of the War in the Pacific?

If the Japanese Empire continued to expand through the pacific unhindered by opposing forces? If Nagisaki and Horishima had never been bombed? If the United States was so consumed in the fighting with Germany that Japanese Advances went unchecked? Would the Japanese form one of the strongest militiant empires in the world?

And the real question is, What if this was reality?

well as you know I picked up BESM fairly recently
I'm willing to give it a go, I'll try and have the rules learnt to a decent standard before we begin :)
A "ring of red" style game would be fairly interesting

Well i can answer some of that. The Bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima actually made little difference. The Japanese were already seeking peace with the US the only concession they wanted was that the Emperor remain soveriegn which was conceeded in the end anyway. Conventional bombing was also more effective.

Goddamn, Cad, I've just been getting more and more of the type of games I've been wanting to see! You can darn well bet I'll be in on this game!

Same question as Alphonzo, but without cyborgs, and instead in relation to mecha ^_^;;

I love alternate history, btw... thanks for making a game like this (I was considering doing the Atlantis Rising general idea in the BESM 2e book as a game, but with all these games I've found asking for players, and school starting soon, I don't think I'll have the time to expend the effort to running a game!

Genre: Alternate History
Time: Mid-Late 1940's Period
Place: Japanese Empire (Characters are Japanese)
Tech Level: Second World War Industrial [But amped up somewhat. See bellow]

For more Specific Questions (both asked and and unasked):

Cyborgs - No (Technology has not advanced that far, prophetics etc are still in infancy)
Bipedal Mech* - Yes (See Bellow)
Super Natural* - Yes (See Bellow)

Characters:
Preferably;
- An Allied Nation in Heritage
Although I suppose you could be from an Axis nation and defect it would be alot easier if people where from allied nations.

*
Super Natural Powers; Characters will remain unaware of their powers through the "Unknown Super Human Powers" attribute (Revised Edition). Characters cannot posses attributes as paranormal, such as magical or psychic (innate or learned) powers, but for some instances I may allow certain attributes (such as special movement to resemble training). Character however may already have hidden tallents they do not know about but may manafest themselves later in the game.

Bipedal Mecha do exist, and I will be making some different levels of bipedal mecha with default defects, attributes and such already worked out. However players will have the option to spend remaining MP to customise a Mecha. (Adding a weapon for instance, or working out a defect, increasing a mecha's abilities further and such).

The game is more of a Alternate Industrial technological one then a Paranormal/Sci-Fi one.

Now back to Mecha :)

something has occured to me
If we are Japanese, how can we be Allies?
It may be my horrific knowledge of the period but weren't they on the other side (or possibly not involved until later- i'm not too sure, but i'm almost positive they weren't allies).

Unless me are immigrants into Japan

Still i'm confused :x-eyed: so can someone help me out here?

Im going to change the concept a little (Lier! tell them the truth!) Ok Ok Just shut up! *hits himself on the head*

Alright, the more I think about the Alternate WW2 concept the more I find loop holes and problems, so im going to let it sit for a while (sorry to disapoint some of you, like Bryan who seemed to have some kind of attachment to the concept).

However the new concept is something like this.

In the late 23rd century, humans discover a floating wreakage in space. It appeared to be some sort of advanced space craft, with a drive system so complicated it took the best scientists nearly 20 years to reverse engineer the device. Also on board was found an ancient map which gave locations of destinations outside of what humanity had explored including one place aptly named "First Place". Theorists believe First Place may infact be the centre of all life in the universe, and that this advanced race was infact a precursor of humanity.

All of humanity united under the effort to get a proto-type ship ready. It was fitted with the latest in military hardware and trained personal. It was also build to transport civilians to colonise other planets - thus reducing the over population problems of earth. As it stands the first Rift drive has been completed, and is due for a test jump to the outer rings of our solar system where a ship that was launched decades before is set to meet the new colony ship.

-

What do people think about this setting/plot line, its far more advanced and would allow for more technology - although paranormal are still rare at best. It would be the perfect setting for a party of fighter mecha squadron buddies to play. (im hoping that most invest some points into Mecha - infact I might give additional points (with added defects) just so characters can.)

yeah i'll play :)
I'm thinking Mecha-pilot Computer guy

Has any alien life been discovered at all (even non-sentient stuff)?

So if we do go for the fighter mecha squad buddies will we have been part of one of the ships crews (either the one with this new drive system or the one that set of decades ago)?

I prolly should stop asking questions, I get the feeling i'm just asking ones that releate too much to the future plot here :)

I likw the advanced setting much much more.

Dang, just when I wanted to play a character like colonel MacDougal from Spriggan :depry: , Can I play a character like Colonel MacDougal :nervous: in absence of a puppy, look at the kitty, do it for the kitty..... :cat:

Oh and I will play.........I really want to play a heavy Psionic type character.....like Colonel MacDougal :)

to be honest, i had my doubts about the WW2 plot, as well. great idea, but would require a lot of research and even then, like you said, lots of plot-holes.

that being said, i am definitely on board for this new concept.

would cybernetics be available in this time period?

Has any alien life been discovered at all (even non-sentient stuff)?

- No, no alien life has been discovered, even that of dead or ancient life in the form of fossils on other planets.

(either the one with this new drive system or the one that set of decades ago)?

- You will be stationed on the Rift proto-type.

would cybernetics be available in this time period?

- Yes, Yes they would.

character creation guidelines?

Cadogan Trahem
21st of August, 2002, 23:27
Character Points 34 (was 46 before OBM)

- 14-18 on Stats
- No Attributes to be taken as 'Paranormal' (Instead invest them into Unknown Super Human Powers if you like)
- No Stat above 9
- No Attribute Above L4 (with exceptions of Flight bellow)
- Max 8 CP from Defects
- 20 Skill points (more or less depending on Highly Trained/Poorly Trained) 2/Level General, 4/Level Combat

- Must Have "Owns a Big Mecha Lv 3" (cost already deducted)
--- Must have atleast "Mechanical Transformation" L1 (4 points) (Fighter/Interceptor and Walker/Landcraft)
--- Life Support L2
--- Flight L5 (4 points/level) [Fighter/Interceptor Only]
--- Awkward Size L3
--- Conditional Ownership L2

Leaving you with 39 Mecha points [59 for Landcraft/Walker] (before further defects) to fiddle with.

Other then that be imaginative. Keep in mind you might need Drive (Air, Space, Ground) just for your Mecha. Weapons (via Weapon Attack) are limited to your imagination but keep in mind humanity is still heavily reliant on Balistics and energy type weapons are in their infancy.

If I missed anything let me know.

did the earth unite under a single government (most likely British ;) ) or was the investigation of the derelict and new drive done by a single government? Or perhaps a large company

Are we working for this government/corperation now?

Are we using the organisational ties attribute? if so could you give a list of organisations that would be suitable and their point costs please :)

Awwwwww... I wanted to play my Sovvie guerilla fighter!!! He was gonna be so cool! :(

I guess it's good, though, that you changed it. Senior year's coming up in a week, and I need to keep my non-school activities down. I'm in way too many RPGs right now for my own good, methinks.

Maybe after I've finished my college applications and all, I might join up.

The earth united under the United Nations, but was not controlled by them. It -was- an international effort by the people of earth, overwatched by the United Nations to make sure everyone puts in equal effort and equal resources based on a scale.

We'll have to start with two, and maybe Brian will join after along with Sponkle and Itches if either of them gets the book. I'll send a request now.

Edit:

I'll also mention that Flight Mecha should have atleast Space Flight L2 or and no higher then Space Flight L3.

It would probably also be a good idea to take a space suit as part of your personal gear.

I have a forum, and have set up the appropriate threads. Go and check them out and begin to post your Characters, Mecha and short backgrounds. I have posted a sample character, and mecha for you to follow guidelines on. :)

Once everyone has posted I will start the Prologue.
