There you'll find the last remains of the previous "RolePostingThread"
Maybe you can extract the gist of it from that.
To me , an example always works better that just a description.
(And yes: I did adjust the guidelines a little...)

Cardogan :
So you're that other Sorc , eh?
Good thing , I haven't found that sheet yet ; Now I can just make anything else out of him.(And edit the introduction , for that matter; Still no impact on the story)
Gralhruk: Obvious a fighter-type , but which one exactly?
Cappucina: Nothing mean meant here , but would you like a few tips on "writing-stile-development"? Your style is rather "list-like",with all the "she does...she goes....she says..." etc. The content is good though.
And to all: Don't bother posting stuff like Alignment etc if you think it's more fun to express it in the story.

Aw. Mainly my posts are actions and reactions. I'm no plot developer - I just play a character. Kind of selfish ones too. I think that is what I am best at. I see what you are saying though. You want some flaring up of my flair.
Let me take you through my though processes. Life for a halfing is tough. I have to take you through a laundry list of things I must do to compensate for my size just to see things from your tall perspectives and respond to your posts. So, now that I finally can see amongst the crowd with out all the legs blocking my sight, I can describe the ambiance of the bar.
Oh hey. Never worry about calling me on anything. At first I thought your "need a lesson" comment was pretty harsh, but I smiled at it anyway. I have incredibly thick skin and I think highly of myself, so criticize my writing style all you like. It just gives me stuff to think about.
I did think about it. And I will try to adapt a little better to not having a DM and work in more descriptive styles. More adjectives like.
Megamieuwsel
2nd of February, 2002, 03:00
Heheh.. Cappucina: Just tried to be helpful.
I really didn't mean to be harsh on you , or "teach you a lesson".
If I were up to that , I could easily have just edited your post , to get the point through.
And yes : I know , an action like that would cut this game short very fast.
Not my intention.....
Cadogan Trahem
2nd of February, 2002, 03:56

Sorry Mega if I -pushed- your character into the tavern ahead of whatever you had planned, if you want I will go back and remove the last few lines.
Megamieuwsel

Ah....
You've read my edit to the guidelines.
Then you've also read that itsy-bitsy phrase : "No problems so far.."
I just was reminded , I should've included it in the first place.
So many First-Time Free-Formers here... I almost forgot , that the first RPT was my initiation to free-forming.
I'm sure more thingies like this will need to be added to "the Rules" , that I haven't thought of/remembered.
But remember : they're only guidelines , not set in stone and such...
Basically , Free-Form depends entirely on mature behaviour , common sense and respect for the other players.(But feel free to screw over their plot-ideas ;) )
Note: In FF all players have equal say in all matters. I just initiated this game. (And got mod-status to take care of possible "Jokers" that try to screw over the game.)

This is cool guys. I hope you don't mind if I join you. Later today I should be able to post a character sheet for Elanor. She works in the town magic shop - or one of the town magic shops; I don't know how big this town is!
I had an idea, by the way. Whenever somebody posts a description of a place - like Cappucina's description of the inn - you should copy it to a special thread. That way, when somebody wants to see what the place is like, they won't have to go searching back through all the old game posts.
I also hope to post a little description of Caledon's shop sometime soon.
Game on!

5th of February, 2002, 03:36
Elanor, Loved your post. I see you have a dilemna about how big the town is. I think that it is however big you want it to be - you just write it up, or someone else may beat you to it, and then that is how big the town is.
Megamieuwsel
5th of February, 2002, 04:53
Exactly.
Keep in mind though ; this is a frontier-town/fortress , as per description in my initial post. Those can harbour quite a few different thingies , while other stuff , normal in "common " towns/cities will be unavailable , or even unheard of.
The mountainous area , it's situated in (I came to town from a mountainpass) also tends to limit its dimensions.
Just a few hints.
Elanor , being a citizen of this town , however , appears to be most entitled to make up a description.
Megamieuwsel

Thanks for the welcome.
Thanks Cap for the compliment. I was going to say that I love er, Cappucina - your halfling, that is. (It's weird having our character names the same as our board names!) She is a pretty cool little chick. But I usually like all your characters.
Hmmmm, frontier town. Probably smaller than I thought it was. I was thinking along the lines of a Waterdeep type city, I guess. But that's OK. This can be a branch of Caledon's Magick Shoppe. He mostly stocks spell components and oddities. Plus a few magic items of his own invention, like fire cones.
Kelemyn
9th of February, 2002, 00:46
I just realized that I took some liberties with your character, Crito. I assumed that you are wearing your ring of protection. If that's not the case, then let me know and I'll redo my post.
That's one use of DETECT MAGIC for Elanor today....

Cappucina -
If your Unseen Servant follows me to the shop, it will hear me say these words: ILUZHN and QUIESCOLEO. Then I take a ring full of keys out of my pocket and use one to unlock the door.
How long will it follow me before returning to you?
cappucina
10th of February, 2002, 17:26
I have to check my handbook. It may be out of range completely. I got someone with purple robes meddling with my plans.
Megamieuwsel
10th of February, 2002, 19:24
:LOL
Well , I put up the first part of my description and let's just assume , the word "robes" is used as a general indication for clothes.
My sorc. is no sissy "dress-boy"!!! :)
(My own fault, I admit; I should've posted at least a more accurate description in the first place......)
Kelemyn
11th of February, 2002, 00:36
All of my next actions are in my game post. The Unseen Servant probably could have even followed me into the back room, seeing as how my hands were full. I probably had to kick the door shut with my foot.
But if it did follow me in, it's stuck in the shop now till someone enters or exits again. The shop door is closed.
The Magick Shoppe is across the street and down about three buildings, how ever far that would be. (I'm not very good at judging distances.)
Megamieuwsel
11th of February, 2002, 01:13
That'll be some twenty yards , if that.....
Still too far for a 1st-lvl spellcaster.(Which Cap. appears to be.)
So , the best it can do is : "hover" at the spells range(25 ft at this lvl) and pick up whatever it can.
Kelemyn
11th of February, 2002, 01:35
Oh wow, I had no idea the range was so limited. Well I guess Caledon's stuff is safe for the present!

Starting Gold is 450gp right? And we buy equipment out of that. Do we take into account the Profession skill if taken?
Cadogan Trahem
11th of February, 2002, 10:10
I used 450gp for starting gold. But later I thought maybe I did something wrong when Crito's Ring came into the story, since those rings cost 2,000gp...
Cadrius
11th of February, 2002, 10:28
Hmm, Cadogan has a point. I'm really intrigued by this and want to get in but I've got a few technical questions. Money? How much do we get? Basic starting money would top out at what? 240 gp for a fighter?
Hit Points? Max at first? Half thereafter? Two thirds? Eh? I did check out the old thread but after checking out some current characters I can't figure out the specifics.
I've already got a character cooking in my head that I'm desperate to get out, I'm just a bit curious about this stuff.
Cadogan Trahem
11th of February, 2002, 10:33
Starting gold was half Maxium for Second Level Which was 900/2 = 450 by me. As for HP, I rolled for mine, as we (the players) are supposed to do all the rolls ouselves with some maturity.
Crito
11th of February, 2002, 10:36
Oops! I picked up on the 1/2 max for gold, but I missed the fact that it was 1/2 max of 2nd level - I used 1/2 the max amount for 4th level. Should I lose the ring of protection or just let it stand?
Cadrius
11th of February, 2002, 10:37
Hey sounds fine by me.
Oh, it's 30 point buy correct?
Cadogan Trahem
11th of February, 2002, 10:40
28 point buy wasn't it?
Cadrius
11th of February, 2002, 10:47
Hmm, I seem to see a mixture between 28 and 30 somewhere in there. Unless of course I'm a total moron and didn't do the math properly...which is definitely a possibility. The old rules say 30, but 28 works just as well. I just don't want to jump in only to have done something wrong.
Kelemyn
11th of February, 2002, 12:12
I misread the post about starting gold too. I started with the full amount for a 2nd lvl character. Oops. I could give back my scrolls or something.
No Crito! Your ring figures into the story now... you can't give it back.
It was 28 point buy, plus the 1 point gained at 4th level. I hope I added my points up right!
Megamieuwsel
11th of February, 2002, 23:42
There seems to be some confusion ' bout the points to spend , so for ease's sake ; let's all pump 'em up to 30 to spend.(Like in the old rules)
Not that it really matters , but just to even the field.
Will edit the "Rules of Conduct".
And no worries 'bout that ring ; There are plenty ways to solve that problem storywise.

10 orcs downed by , what? some eight pc's? Not exactly a cartload of xp , I think.
Since this is FreeForm , exact numbers don't matter that much. "Feels about right" is more the standard procedure.
Question #3: Should we start a "People" thread for NPC descriptions?
Suit yourself. Anything to fill your needs ; You think it's helpfull? Then go for it. I think it's a good Idea.

Hmm, as I'm extremely new to this free-form sort of game I've got a little question. Did I handle that little bit with the Wyvern properly?

Kelemyn
14th of February, 2002, 07:26
Don't be silly, WhoNAN! Nothing to be sorry about. For some reason, peolple always seem to post while I'm in the middle of posting. Maybe that's because I always have to get up and deal with the kids, or make dinner, or something, and it takes me so long to get a post done!
Anyway, Crito was asking about how to keep track of damage done to the wyvern. I was wondering that too. Maybe we could do a creature thread. Whoever invents the monster starts the thread (stating the number of hit points, etc.), and whoever damages it, posts the damage in that thread. When the creature dies, Mega can delete the thread.
Cadrius

I've been keeping basic track of how much it "should" take to knock it out.... but since it is free-form I'm only guesstimating at it... basically when someone feels like it should die.... post so.... if not who knows.... it could be a 30 HD Wyvern (hey It could happen... not likely, but it could)... soooo my answer.... I don't know :) , Mega? Your experiences would suggest we should handle it how?
BigRedRod
14th of February, 2002, 08:55
lets go with the monster thread idea
that works for me
list the hp of the creature
then we can post with the damage dealt
when its negative mega or whonan can delete it

Oh yeah.. sorry for Sockin' you one, TheDruid20, but.. that's what Second would do. Attacking a retreating animal is a big no no to him.. Might as well shoot flaming arrows into the trees, it's pretty much the same thing...
Especially a predator. Lots of ecosystems depend on their being certain numbers of predators, and one that size, with it's appetite would probably leave a large hole if it was killed, thus causing the bunny population to explode, thus ruining parts of the forest, thus etc etc etc the world is destroyed.
Or so Second thinks.

Well, as it's free-form and open to everyone, I wouldn't veto anything. However I would be interested in knowing what ECL you'd be using on the half-dragon. I personally find them to be...well...nuts, but that's just me. It's not like we do much combat anyway.
More importantly though...what dragon in it's right mind would have sex with a halfling? Seriously. How desperate was the drunk dragon who stumbled into the Shire that night?
Beidamon
6th of May, 2002, 12:48
Simple, it was the grand "Jack the Dragon" The father of all unexplained half dragon creatures. He polymorphed himself into a human one day and knocked his head forgetting everything, he has the habbit of taking the form of the creatures around him without even knowing it, and since he has no skills and that nice high charisma he earns his way as he travels throught the world using one of the oldest businesses ;)

Wanted to ask you all a favor... I want you guys to feel free to jump in with plot twists or points at any time... I am finishing my posts on purpose in a manner to leave things open for you all to explore, change, mess-up, screw with or whatever.... my feelings won't be hurt.... feel free to lead the RPT if you so feel upto it. I'm having fun also, and thank you all for great posts.

It doesn't have to be earth shattering.... just play into the situation ... thats what I do.... you can stay in character also... ask questions, look around.... I am dropping hints.... but add your own flavors in there..... hence the question at the end of my last post.... have fun... make something up that intrigues you... where does Cadrius want to go.. how does he feel about being in a huge home that seemlessly shouldn't exist, especially with a weird sky.... and a weird Grey clad man, who is going to see a mother that looks nothing like him, with three women, who seem very affectionate to this man, and still refer to his mother as mom.... explore, create... have fun.... I'm ranting, but done.

As you can read : I´m back in game again.
Whonan´s plot fits perfectly with what I have in mind.

Actually, it might not be a bad idea if we shared a bit of where we think the story ought to go. Clearly, Whonan and Mega have some ideas of what they'd like to see. I'd rather not de-rail any of that. For now, I can see us being talked into a quest by Whonan's mother. I'm thinking that we'll eventually see that quest completed, only to find that we'd unwittingly helped our enemy - either Whonan's mom was duped or she's in on the whole scheme. The odd set of tracks I brought in were to lay some groundwork for the third faction (ie. the real enemy), and introduce the idea that all may not be as it seems.

Hmm, Mega I may have figured it out...
Anyway I'm more than content with Whonan's and Mega's hooks for now. I do have one in mind for old Cadrius here but it won't come into play for a while.
However I might ignore this thread. I really do enjoy the twists and turns thrown around by everyone. The game is so very different when everyone is a DM and a player.

Oh man that crow thing freaked me out. Have you read "Black House" by Stephen King and Peter Straub? If that crow started saying things like "Gorg" or "Abbalah" I would have run screaming from my computer.
Gralhruk
11th of June, 2002, 03:18
I've read quite a bit of Stephen King, though I haven't read "Black House". But I could toss in a Gorg if you'd like :). Are we turning into a horror/mystery? Add a little comedy we could be the new scooby doo.
Cadrius
11th of June, 2002, 03:37
Yeah, it's the sequel to a book they wrote 20 years ago called "The Talisman." I'm about 200 pages into it and it's quite good. I think that coupled with the sudden appearance of that bird (which I mistook for a crow) gave me a new wave of goosebumps. *shudder*
I don't know about that, where will we get the Scooby Snacks?
Gralhruk
11th of June, 2002, 03:48
I think a raven is just a large crow. If not, they're close enough that it doesn't make any difference :).
Did I ever read the Talisman? I seem to remember it floating around the house before I went off to college, but for some reason I don't think I ever picked it up. I read most of his earlier stuff, though. I think the last one of his I read was Needful Things.
Cadrius
11th of June, 2002, 04:37
Ah The Talisman is truly epic. A great book to read.
We have decidedly taken a turn toward horror, or at least suspense. Not only that but our posting has been rather voluminous. I certainly hope Mega, Whonan, and whomever else that wants to join in don't mind reading through all this.
Gralhruk
11th of June, 2002, 04:52
Hopefully Whonan and Mega will come back soon. I hope they don't mind the additional reading. Still, not much has actually happened in all that posting. And I do hope some others jump in as well.
To be honest, I sort of started off toward the orchard just to keep the thread moving. I'm pretty happy with Shade as a character, though, and I'm really liking the interaction with Cadrius. Good stuff, and it's fun writing.
Cadrius
14th of June, 2002, 03:40
I'd just like to say that I totally understand if nobody wants to read the ungodly amount that I just typed. I apologize for being overly verbose but Whonan just gave me a chance to tell Cadrius' story. Part of it anyway and once I started writing I couldn't stop.
It's a bit cliche and a bit over-dramatic, but it had to be told.
For those without the patience to wade through my atrocious story-telling I'll give you a brief plot synopsis (and if you want to be surprised by what happens I suggest you stop reading now).
Here's how it breaks down. Cadrius' beloved betrayed him and fell into the arms of his brother. Cadrius challenged him to a duel and sought to kill his brother (Ben). Unfortunately at the last moment (isn't that always the case?) his beloved leaps in front of the blade causing Cadrius to kill both of them at once. Tragic, no?

14th of June, 2002, 22:25
What good is having a fallen paladin if you are going to skimp on the drama? I rather liked it. Sooner or later you'll get to know a bit more about Shade's story, but I don't think it's time yet.

Okay here is a problem. I intended to partake (don’t you just love the big words) in this game, but after once again reading what is happening in-game I’m hesitating. If I do introduce my character would probably ruin the nice suspenseful mood you currently have going.
So until I can think of a way of getting him in there without wreaking the mood, or until the mood lightens a bit, I guess I’m holding off.

Gral, that was an amazing post. You really have a sense of style and flair when you write. Kudos.
Sorry about the zombie thing but my sense of the woods was that it dredged out the awful memories of the past. However I don't think they could be limited to the person remembering. Cadrius could have seen it had Shade said something, just as she could have seen who Cadrius was fighting had he said something.
They haven't seen each others nightmares yet because deep down I don't think they want to. Just my spin on it.

Cadrius
2nd of July, 2002, 03:37
No, I certainly did notice it. I'm surprised there wasn't a reference about setting someone on fire.
I think creating an intriguing storyline that will involve all four of our characters is an interesting endeavour. What do we have?
A dark and rather mysterious woman who assassinated a dwarf.
A fallen paladin, who while finally showing signs of life, is still a dark and melancholic man.
A goofy nobleman, madly in love and accident prone.
A monk who has doubts about her place in her order (although the reasons are not exactly clear to me. Maeko, did she lose the artifact or is she merely charged with retaking it?)
So really we have two dark characters, one lighthearted one, and one in the middle. It's a good balance, but how do you create something for everyone?
One thought it to merely pattern a line for one character and let the others find ways of fitting themselves into it.
Gralhruk

You know you don't have to double check with us. It sort of ruins the surprise. If you want to spring something, do it. That's part of the fun of this thread. You can mess with other people's storylines while creating your own.
Shade and I almost had combat in the forest on two occasions (until I realized that an encounter I planned would have been unbeatable due to our lack of magical weapons). The other I misinterpreted.
So have some fun, just make sure not to throw pit fiends at the poor level four adventurers.

Seriously. Not to turn this into a worship thread, but I sincerely admire your writing Gral, for many reasons. Not many men can write a woman well. I know when I do I leave a lot to be desired (they end up more like a guy in drag than anything else). So don't apologize for gifting us with more insight into Shade's soul. I won't allow it.
This game is, without a doubt, one of my favorite's. I usually like to free up plenty of time to ponder what's going on before sitting down and letting Cadrius go to work. Perhaps it's the control, perhaps it's the players, perhaps it's the combination of everything. I truly love this game and I'm ecstatic to be a part of it.
There, I think I'm done gushing now. Sheesh.

Cadrius
3rd of July, 2002, 03:47
Well shucks. I honestly can't take any credit. My best writing, be it pbp, prose, or poetry always comes from within. It's just something that spills out. I've never had the opportunity to play such a tragic character and I was determined not to let the game die merely because I was the last player.
As far as Itches and Maeko go, well, you guys really do a good job. Itches you bring in a comedic and light-hearted element that's desperately needed. Maeko brings in a very exotic flavor with a female monk. Both characters have distinct personalities and as a player I look forward to seeing more about them.
Ok then, let's get back to the story. We probably should have renamed this to "Role Posting Self-Esteem Thread."
In all seriousness I truly am glad to be part of this. Just wanted to make sure you guys knew I appreciated each of your efforts.

Like everything else free-form: make it up as you go along :).
Seriously, you can be really formal about it and declare initiative and actions and roll for everything (policing yourself of course). Or you can be really lax and just write in whatever you'd like, as long as remain reasonably close to what is possible within the 3e rules.
I usually generate a few random numbers in Excel to simulate some D20 rolls and go from there.

Yep, I usually like to roll (when I have dice around) and see what happens. Of course you can create a much more exciting fight if you bend the rules slightly for the sake of the story. Cinematic battles are always more fun than beatdowns. That's why this fight should be interesting. Cadrius has neither armor nor shield. I'm sensing he's going to take a beating.
By the way, what's the CR on gnolls anyway?

Actually, Shade is unarmored at the moment as well thanks to her moonlight dip. Her fine studded leather is currently protecting a tree . . .

Then again, we're a bunch of level 4 characters squaring off against two gnolls, we'll probably be ok.
If it was an ogre or worse yet an alsip. We'd be in trouble.

I'm not exactly sure how things were laid out but here's how I was picturing it when Shade and Cadrius show up:
.............G2..
..G1....I........
...................
...................
...................
.....S......C....
I=Itches, S=Shade, C=Cadrius, G1=Gnoll1, G2=Gnoll2
Cadrius whistles, bringing the gnolls charging south to meet us. Cadrius steps forward and engages gnoll2, Shade tumbles northwest around Cadrius and continues to a flanking position on gnoll2. Gnoll1 had rushed up to meet Shade, who isn't there anymore (sorry about that Cadrius). That leaves the battlefield looking kind of like this:
....................
...........I........
...............S...
.............G2..
......G1....C...

I'm not sure where Maeko is. Shade scored a decent hit (9 damage thanks to sneak attack).
Cadrius

Scratch one gnoll. He had 3 hit points left after Shade's attack and the minimum Cadrius does while swinging his sword two handed is 5.

Maeko is here, I counted a full move action to get on the other side of G1.

I have a tradition of screaming "WE are all going to DIE" when ever a game i am playing in gets into a battle. In this Case iItches should surive as the smart guy ran off. . .unless that is your characters are so anoyed that you kill him. In which case the only think i could do is lie in an puddle in the ground, out cold.
Have fun with the gnolls.

Once again I leave Cadrius in a bad spot. Sorry about that, but from Shade's perspective Maeko looks like she's pretty helpless. I'm sure she will learn otherwise before too long, though :).
Just for the record: flanking is the best! I was only able to take one attack because of my move but thanks to sneak attack she hits for 11 damage. Not too shabby, really.
Cadrius
9th of July, 2002, 02:57
Nope it makes total sense. He had a similar train of thought except he wasn't quite expecting Shade to turn around and go at the one he had disengaged.
Now before I post, here's a quick question: what's the deal with the adept class? I can't remember much of it from the DMG and before giving that gnoll an action I'd like to know what he can do. Spells? Or does he just have a bunch of skills?
Gralhruk
9th of July, 2002, 03:14
I kind of skimmed that section a long while back, but I haven't looked at it since. The SRD is no help either. So . . . I'd say they probably have some spell ability, though it would probably be less than a normal caster.
Cadrius

Hmm, that's what I suspected.
Let's see, using those online die rollers is a touch odd. Both the gnoll and I rolled max damage. Poor Cadrius, he's a bloody mess.

I find that I'm often torn between two ways of posting in this game.
Part of me wants to "post in the moment," to write by my feeling of the scene and my understanding of the characters. I tend to derive the most enjoyment out of this style and my long-winded posts stem from this.
The other part wants to make sure it's enjoyable for others that read it. I want to analyze what I'm writing, scan for any intentional symbolism, metaphors, or cliches. It's different from proofreading though.
It's really quite frustrating. I like to absorb each post but then I'm eager to reply, yet I wonder if I took more time to sit back and think as I write whether I could provide more branches for others to play on. The one with the tree was great and totally unintentional. Hmm...
Hopefully I'm at least making a shred of sense here.
Gralhruk
11th of July, 2002, 04:59
You make alot of sense. Your long posts aren't long-winded; they really add to the feel of the story.
I definitely understand the whole 'posting in the moment' thing. I tend to fiddle with my post until it feels right when I read it (I like to use the preview button). I think it comes from reading alot. I find that in the books I enjoy writing style is as important to me as a good story.
There are some authors that are immensely enjoyable for me to read just because of the way they write. Roger Zelazny and Fritz Leiber come to mind, but they both tend to have good story lines as well. Robert E. Howard is also an enjoyable read, and his story lines are usually pretty bad. Then there are others that have decent stories but I just don't care for the writing (Raymond Feist - I read one of the Krondor series, but it didn't leave me wanting more).
I have the same problem with wanting to post more frequently, though. I'll see something that puts a thought in my head, and then I'll want to get my post in before the moment is gone. As you say, the problem with this comes in the 'proofreading'. I find that if I haven't had time to digest my thoughts my posts don't seem as in-character.
My comprimise has been to try and hold off on my replies. If I see something that I have to reply to immediately, I try to write down my original idea (so that I keep that feeling) and then take my time re-reading it for anything that sounds out-of-character.
My post on Shade passing Cadrius on her way back from the stream was like this. I really wanted to give her a few minutes to reflect on the dead gnolls but I wasn't happy with her reaction as she passed Cadrius. How would she react to a simple greeting from him, especially with what was going on in her head? I'm still not thrilled with how I handled it, but it's better than my first few attempts.
My OOC posts are getting as long as my IC posts :).
itches
11th of July, 2002, 05:24
Yes i know what you both mean. Every time i read something that has been posted, i just want to type a a reply then and there, oftern before i have finished reading the post. I restatin myself and try to wait untill the rest of you have posted before making my reply, as that allows me the greatest creative input. the balence that i have reached, is that i plan the post out in my head, and i let it bounce around in there while i am waiting. during that time i make small changes and add or get rid of things (anyone remember the Fellowship of The Mud?). as it is i do sometimes losse what i was going to post, and whilei remember what it was, i no longer have the muse and it does not feel right.
As the Fiest, do not take the Kronder books as his norm. I stand by my claim that they were the worse books that he wrote. If you want a really good book of his, go back the his original ones, the Magician books. He wrote them back before he was a writer, when he wrote for the love of writing. Now I believe that he just writes for the money, which resultes in some VERY bad books.

11th of July, 2002, 22:10
Thanks for the tip on Feist. Maybe I'll take a look at the Magician series. Next on my list (after I finish 'A Song of Fire and Ice') is Tad Williams 'Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn' - I've never read any of his stuff but I've heard good things about it. Anybody read it?

I had been hoping that we'd all get to talking around the fire last night but it didn't quite work out that way. Shade is desparately curious about Maeko and there is definitely the possibility for some good conversation. Actually, I had thought to have her wake from a bad dream while Maeko was on watch but she didn't get the chance :).
I'm going to hold off posting until Itches gets a post in, though.

Okay, i''ve posted go ahead and have your talk. i'm going to have itches drop to the backgroud for a bit, only comming to the forth to make a bad joke, or to make a fool of himself. I think he has had enough deep stuf for now. Have fun.
Oh and has noone questioned him about his name yet?
Gralhruk
12th of July, 2002, 23:40
I thought Cadrius asked about it when they first met. I seem to remember you explaining that it, but maybe that was in the OOC.
Anyway, no need to drop into the background. It seems logical that we'd all try to get to know each other, it's just that Maeko really surprised Shade during the fight and she had meant to ask her about it.
itches
12th of July, 2002, 23:48
i didnt mean it like that. He is going to drop to the back ground more like, he is not going to run of like he has been doing. And is going to stop bumping into trouble.
And no noone actual asked Itches about his name. Everyone just said something out of character, and to each other. oh and something else important, but how much food do have left?
Gralhruk
12th of July, 2002, 23:53
Shade has two days worth of trail rations, which isn't much. I read up on the wilderness lore description, though. DC to feed yourself in the wild is 10, +2 for each additional person you want to feed. If she takes 10, Shade can find enough while foraging to feed all of us, but it slows us down to half our regular movement per day.
itches
13th of July, 2002, 00:04
Okay so we're not about to die from lack of food. lets assume we can get 2 days of full taveling before foraging is needed.

Well, I was making it up as I went along and I got a bit carried away. I probably could have cut it a bit if I worked at it, but I wanted to get a post in. Here is a little summary in case you don't feel like reading:
Shade makes a few mental observations about her companions, gets annoyed at Itches' idyllic life, and tells a story of her own to illustrate just how sheltered he was. Her story in a nutshell: she hooks up with (and later fights against and subsequently robs) a nasty ranger to track down the dwarf she murders in front of Cadrius. It also, incidentally, explains how she learned her woodcraft.
