Ok here is the deal. I was monkeying around with the Sandstorm supplement to turn some of the monsters into playable races in the new game I'm starting up and here it is.

Marrutact

Medium monstrous humanoid
30 foot land speed
+2 Intellegence and wisdom
+4 racial bonus to listen checks

Special:
Spell resistance 10+class levels
Howl of healing: Once per day a Marrutact can heal all allies within 30 feet. Doing so takes up one standard action and the amount of damage healed is the Marrutacts class level divided by 2 and multiplied by a D6 with a modifier of the marrutacts class level divided by 3 with a minimum of D6+1. For example at 3rd level howl of healing would heal for D6+1 and at 6th would heal for 3d6 +2
Low light vision.
Resistance to fire 5.
Resistance to desiccation 10.
Additionally Marrutact only need to drink a single mouthful of water to recover from the effects of dehydration.
Marrutact are always female.

+1 level adjustment

Favoured class (even though when I DM I don't bother with this stuff cus it overcomplicates exp): Cleric
Automatic languages: Common and Marru

Marrusault

Medium monstrous humanoid
30 foot land speed
+2 strength and constitution
+4 racial bonus to listen checks

Special:
Spell resistance 10+class levels
Howl of Defiance: Once per day a Marrusault can loose a terrifying howl as a standard action. All enemies within 30 feet must succeed a DC 15 will save or become shaken.
Low light vision.
Resistance to fire 5.
Resistance to desiccation 10.
Additionally Marrutact only need to drink a single mouthful of water to recover from the effects of dehydration.
Marrusault are always male.

+1 level adjustment

Favoured class: Fighter
Automatic languages: Common and Marru

Howl of Defiance's flat save DC seems a bit odd. Any chance of making it, say, Charisma-based? Howl of Healing's 3d6+2 seems a strange amount as well.

+2 level adjustment seems high, unless you follow Wizard's philosophy of setting level adjustments higher than they should be to discourage monster characters. You could probably drop it to +1 without anything blowing up.

Charisma based eh? not a bad idea. i think i'll do that. How about 10 + the characters charisma modifier + 1/2 class levels? I was just trying to make sure howl of healing wasnt too overpowered but i might make it 3d8 instead of d6 or something. As for the +2 LA I did it due to the spell resistance but they do have alot less racial abilities then say a Drow so +1 might work.

10 + 1/2 HD + ability modifier is the standard DC for special abilities, yes. You may also want to make Howl of Healing scale with level somehow as well; 3d6 (or whatever) will be a massive amount for the first few levels, but is negligible later on. Maybe 1d6 per two levels, minimum 1d6, or something like that.

Personally, I think LA +2 is a bit much for even drow. Spell resistance is really nice, but I wouldn't say it's worth an entire level. After all, the monk gets spell resistance as a class ability.
