It is day four and two more duelists have fallen and we are down to five.
Once again TarNoch will start out the day. As an Evoker his spells deal with raw power and it was enough to overcome Gimbal, but now he faces a decidedly more deadly Illusionist. I speak of none other than Murwocket Loopnock Nampen, better known as Loopy!
Loopy seems determined to get back on his winning streak so it will be a hard fought duel. One more loss of either and they are out of the Duel Arcana.
Please send me a private message with your prepared spells, spells cast prior to the duel, what you will have in hand, what spell(s) you will cast on the first round, and what action you will take on the 2nd round (either prepare to counterspell or total defense).

Tarnoch enters the ring knowing fully the danger of such a deadly illusionist.
Though the mage does not depend of his God for his spells, he says a devout prayer before entering the arena. Tarnoch cast a few spells on himself prior dead hour in anticipation of the coming threats.

Still seething from yesterday's loss, which shouldn't have been a loss, Loopy enters the ring with a scowl on his face and a mean streak a mile wide. Casting a spell that has yet to be seen in this match, Loopy concentrates on the affinities of fate in the arena and attempts to manipulate them to his advantage.

One that was closely observing the dwarf's facial expressions may have noticed a slight smirk creep across his moving lips.
The mage approaches Tarnoch fires a spell just for the situation, short and insulting. The evoker then follows with another blast of the weave's raw energy.

Given the effects of the first spell that TarNoch casts, Loopy has no problem with letting it go unchallenged. His prepratory spell had already taken into account just such an eventuality. He'd just have to be careful about the use of his counterspell, since it was likely the only one he'd get.
Likewise, Loopy has little issue with the second spell that TarNoch casts. The missiles were bound to hurt, but wouldn't be a match ender, and therefore not worth his countering them. Flinching, Loopy prepares to absorb their blow.

Yes, but apparently Loopy didn’t think countering TarNoch’s spells were warranted. Though the incite spell that TarNoch cast would have been a good choice in most spell duels.

TarNoch has sent not one, but TWO Rainbow Blasts at Loopy.
That’s the way the game is played. Throw your biggest spells at your opponent at fast as possible and try to take them down before they take you down. Did you see Loopy’s attempt to counter the first blast?
It was a pretty fast exchange and it looked like he took the brunt of the blast while he was trying to counter it. The second one he just jumped out of the way and it looks that that was more effective.

Unfortunately Loopy can not seem to make his spells take hold on the resilient dwarf.
He has been throwing solid spells at TarNoch, but the Dwarven resilience to spells and the nightshield that TarNoch had cast up at the beginning of the duel are proving difficult to overcome.

Taking a mental inventory of the spells both he and his opponent have cast, Loopy comes to the conclusion that they're both running close to empty on their most powerful spells. Not quite empty, but fairly close, and if his opponent didn't have anymore attack spells in those slots, as his inaction suggested, then Loopy might be able to win the match another way.
Drawing his glaive, Loopy casts a spell to make himself proficent with the weapon and moves towards his opponent. He has no chance of closing the whole gap, but once he gets about halfway, he tries to ready himself to cast his last strong protective spell, hoping to get it up at just the right time. The spell his opponent had cast on him at the begining of the match prevents him, however, so he quickly switches spells, not willing to give his opponent a chance to counterspell what could very well be the match winning spell at this point.
If he got to cast it, that is.

Loopy is calling in some reinforcements. The croc failed to nab TarNoch though.
Still, TarNoch is in a bad spot. Loopy must be on his last leg by now, but unless he can pull another high powered spell out of his bag of tricks that globe of invulnerability it going to give him some problems.

TarNoch is staggering from that beam that Loopy hit him with.
A ray of enfeeblement. Loopy has sapped TarNoch’s strength. TarNoch’s equipment is probably weighing him down quite a bit now.

The increased vibration of the glass sphere at his feet tells Loopy that his major protection is just about gone, but he still doesn't have a snowball's chance in Baator of being able to physically penetrate his opponent's. Plus, that spell that his opponent had cast earlier, and which Loopy had allowed uncontested, was preventing him from making some sound tactical moves.
Damn it all.
Abandoning the protection of his nearly expired globe so that he can cast a bit more freely, Loopy casts a pair of spells, one to enhance his personal protections (and prevent the most elementry of wizard attack spells from being his undoing) and another to make the glaive in his hand far more useful.
Please let the length of this weapon make this work.
