View Full Version : Gladiator Loser's Bracket Match 9

Well, its time for the last Loser's Bracket match. The winner of this match will be headed for the championship match, and there is really no other way to get there at this point.

That's right. Its win or go home for these two competitors.

And what a match up of opposites we have. Lily, the light on her feet elf whose combat poweress is complemented by her magical might versus Ok Bok, the heavy handed orc whose combat poweress doesn't need complementing.

Which will prevail? Might or magic? Lily and Ok Bok, introduce yourselves the crowd.

Ok Bok steps into the arena again. Her vengeance had been stayed, but she had forgotten about that as she had someone else to kill in her path to victory. A weakling, she thought and grinned, and raced forward, moving into position to bellow her anger at Lily.

((double-move to O14, P15, P23. Rage, intimidate as a free action.))

Lord Twig

An array of emotions ran through Lily has she entered the arena. Anger, loathing, disgust, hatred, and, she had to admit to herself, fear. Before she had faced gladiators, men of skill and honor, now she faced a beast. There would be no reasoning with it, no mercy granted, and so there would be none given. “Time to avenge the fallen,” she said quietly to herself as she prepared for the upcoming ordeal.

Grim and focused, Lily let her training take over. Her dance was not what one would suspect giving what was facing her. It was not martial or violent, it was soft and flowing. It was subtle, with moves that changed suddenly so that it tricked the eye making it unclear which way she was moving. Images of herself spun out from her as always to enhance the misdirection.

She was ready.

Cast Mirror Image, dance/tumble to D26. Use Perform: Dance using Tumble to assist.

Really. This crowd just doesn't seem to be into dancing any more.

They definately don't like fear, however. Lily will have to work to make that up.

Contempt crept into Lily’s consciousness, contempt for the crowd. Afterall, Lily thought, they are little better than the creature I am fighting. They are in a frenzy for blood with no thought in their heads of tactics or skill. I will have to show them. Ignoring the shouts from the crowd, she casts a spell and her dancing picks up speed. Her people had fought orcs for ages and always triumphed in the end. It would be no different this time. In a whirl of movement Lily dances back the way she came.

Cast Expeditious Retreat, dance to C25, C23, and end in D22. Use Perform: Dance to impress the crowd and Tumble to assist.

Any AoO Lily may get will use Combat Expertise for –5 to hit/+5 AC until further notice.

Note: The effects of Ok Bok’s Intimidating Rage feat have been misapplied. She could only intimidate one target, and that target must be within 30ft (i.e. the Dire Lion). As a result, Lily was not intimidated, and her crowd attitude score has been changed to reflect that.

Lily casts expeditious retreat.

It would seem that Ok Bok has forgeten who the enemy is in her rage. She's going after the Dire Lion closest to her rather than Lily.

Lily, not content to just let the beast waste itself against the animals, continues to follow the Elven tactic of hit-and-run. She moves back out from behind her cover, this time moving so fast that dancing really isn't feasible. She uses a low platform to gain even greater height as she launches herself over a pile of rubble, doing a complete flip in the air then landing on her feet and continuing to run until she leaps atop an even higher platform. From here she spins and finds her target. A quick chant and gesture sends for four force missiles across the field to strike Ok Bok.

Move to C23 then all the way to C34, jumping from the platform C27 to get over the rubble in C28 and then jumping up to the top of the platform in C34. I believe all of these jumps will be automatic thanks to the +12 running jump bonus Lily gets from Expeditious Retreat. Use Tumble to impress the crowd. Once on top of the platform in C34 she will cast Magic Missile at Ok Bok.

Note: I previously forgot to adjust Ok Bok’s hp for her raging Con score. She has 109 hp to start this round.

Lily moves, jumping onto a platform, over some rubble, and then onto another platform. Jump DCs are 10, 5, & 20, which are automatic with Lily’s current +23 modifier.
Lily casts magic missile. Deals 1+3=4, 4+3=7, 4+3=7, & 2+3=5 damage. Crowd attitude towards Lily improves 1 step (damage opponent with flashy spell).

Dire Lion 1 attacks Ok Bok. 16+15-4 (squeezing)=27 and 17+15-4=28 and 7+9-4=12 vs. AC 12. Both claws and bite hit. Deals 2+7=9, 3+7=10, & 8+3=11 damage.

Dire Wolverine steps to be closer to Dire Lion 3, stopping when it reaches the end of its chain.

Ok Bok has taken 52 damage since her last turn. She must make a DC 62 Will save or automatically enters a frenzy. Will 1. Automatically fails. Ok Bok frenzies.

With Elven grace Lily leaps off the platform, flips in mid-air and lands on her feet. Her dancing quickly brings her face to face with the huge Orc. She draws herself up to her full five foot height, but still looks tiny by the comparison. "I'm sure you are familiar with Elven children. How many have you slain? Come! I am but one small Elf girl! Why don't you kill me!" Her rapier flickers out lightning quick to egg the Orc on further before returning to a defensive posture.

Move to E33, D32, D31. Use Perform: Dance to influence the crowd and Tumble to assist. Lily will attack Ok Bok with her rapier using Combat Expertise for -5 to Hit/+5 AC (AC should now be 24 vs. Ok Bok).

Lily moves, dancing and tumbling to impress. Perform (Dance) 6+10+2 (circumstance bonus from tumble)=18 vs. DC 20. Fails. Crowd is not impressed.
Lily attacks Ok Bok, maintaining a defensive posture with Combat Expertise. 2+15-5=12 vs. AC 8. Hits. Deals 1+8=9 damage. Ok Bok is unconscious. Crowd attitude towards Lily improves 3 steps (incapacitating opponent without killing them).

Final Crowd Attitude Scores:
Lily: 25.140625
Ok Bok: 3.375

Well, would you look at that? One small stab with a rapier was all it took to fell the mighty Ok Bok.

Sure, but Lily had used a good deal of magic to soften her up first. Were it not for those magic missiles then Lily would have had a lot harder time with Ok Bok when it came to using her rapier.

Maybe, but I still think its ironic that the mighty orc fell to a single bite of a rapier.

It wasn't... *sigh* Nevermind.

Match is over. Lily wins.

Lily's rapier pulls back with a thin trail of blood. She braces herself against a counter attack that she thinks will come, a counter attack that she is counting on. But the Orc does nothing, it's hate filled eyes flare at Lily briefly, then roll up into her skull and the Orc falls over backward.

Lily stands stunned, sure it must be some kind of trick, but knowing that such tricks are beyond the beast's capacity. She hears the judges calling out her victory and fury consumes her.

"No!" Lily looks down at the Orc. "I won't let you off that easy! Get up you stupid brute!" She seethes. It wasn't supposed to end this way. She was supposed to have vengeance for the fallen. Justice was to be done.

Lily quivers with suppressed rage. She longs to drive her sword through the Orcs heart, but she knows that if she were to do it now it would be murder. After all of the people the Orc has killed, she will live, and the law protects her from being killed herself.

Cursing in Elven Lily turns and leaves the arena.
