BP, as an unrelated note (since there are no other OOC threads in this forum right now), Andorax's CC3 is scheduled before my Mageduel; you might want to amend your schedule post somewhat. In addition, I have talked to BRR, and it seems like you'll be the mod that's responsible here regardless of who's running the tourney. We'll all be bugging you with truck load mod requests during tournements now :)

Black Plauge

Like I wasn't already modding the tournaments on 3EBB?

And I was under the impression that CC3 was next. Did you and Andorax come to some kind of arangement to swap positions, or is my memory that bad?

It's the tentacles, BP. He's sucking your brains out.

Andorax

CC3 is next...but you listed it the other way 'round in the upcomming events

Grrr....

Fixed. Damn Mind Flayers.

So, word is over at 3EBB (where the really drawn out exibition matches are still going on) that CC3 has been postponed indefinately at the moment.

Also, as a player in one of his games, I know Darken is currently suffering from DM burnout. Does that mean that his Mage Duel Tournament is on hold too?

So, how is this going to effect the schedule? Are there other individuals willing to take up the sponsorship role?

Also, 3EBB survived. Since that's where these tournaments were originally housed, are we going to move them back there, or will they stay here?

I would LOVE to sponser one or the other of these tournys, but there is NO WAY I have enough experience as a DM to do it. The only suggestions I can make are either you run another gladiator tourny or run one of the others. Course, there's probably someone out there that is will to do it for you.

Black Plauge

Trust me, running one of these tournaments is the best way to hone your DM skills.

Any one else out there in cyber space have a comment?

Boomlaor

How much time per day would you estimate that you put into this BP? I'd tentatively be interested in running a tournament, but I want to make sure that I can muster up the time before I commit to it.

I have been thinking of it myself. But I currently do not have any kind of mapping software. Are there any good free ones out there?

Also, my list of source books are limited. I have the Core Books (PHB, DMB, MM), the Expanded Psionics book, the Complete books (CAdv, CArc, CDiv, CWar) and the SRD (of course). So I would probably have to limit everyone to those unless I can get my hands on other sources.

Also, what would people like to play? I was thinking of a Spell Duel contest, maybe limited to Arcane casters, but not sure yet. I could also do a Gladiator contest, but would prefer to leave that to BP.

I guess the main thing is the lack of mapping software.

generaljimX
19th of February, 2006, 07:01
As Lord Twig, I have a lack of mapping software and a way to get it online. I'm not nesecarily looking for something free, perse, but getting it online is where I think the most cost MIGHT be. If I can find an inexpensive way of getting the stuff online, then I would be able to spend more on the mapping software.

Lord Twig
19th of February, 2006, 08:18
Found a tool online called AutoREALM. It looks pretty good considering it is free. I am just playing around with it to see how I would do an online combat. It would probably work just fine.

Here is a link: http://www.gryc.ws/autorealm.htm
or: http://autorealm.sourceforge.net/index.php

generaljimX
19th of February, 2006, 14:39
I tryed that, but with no kind of instruction manuel or tuturiol, I was completely lost, which doesn't happen often. And being completely lost, I uninstalled the thing....It is supposed to be good, however.

Lord Twig
20th of February, 2006, 17:40
Well I have been playing around with the software some more, and I am pretty sure that I can make a decent go at online maps. I am using AutoRealm and Gimp. Both are free software, but they work pretty good. Here are some samples.

http://www.cyberkeep.org/maps/spellduel.jpg

A 65' diameter arena.

http://www.cyberkeep.org/maps/m1r7p1.jpg

Here is one with a couple wizards, two summoned creatures, a flaming sphere, a wall of fire and a wall of force.

I will try to get the resolution better. But I think they work well enough.

Lord Twig
20th of February, 2006, 18:02
So would people be up for a spell duel?

I would base it on the rules in Complete Arcane, with a few modifications.

The rules suggest that it is only arcane casters that participate, and I could run it that way, but I am open to debate. In any case they should be able to counter a spell and be counterspelled.

I already have a few ideas for the rules as well. If there is enough interest I will start some discussion on it.

generaljimX
21st of February, 2006, 10:18
I have been up for it since first suggested over at 3EBB. And I'm still game.

If only autorealm had a manuel....

Black Plauge
21st of February, 2006, 12:25
Resolution looks pretty good. Its about at the level I'd expect to come out of Campaign Cartographer (which is what I use).

A spell duel would be very interesting. I'm not as interested, personally, in conjurer's chess, but would like another caster based event. Then again, gladiators are awesome also.

Thanks in advance to whom ever will be running future events.

I'd be interested in joining a general (Read: Gladiator) game, but casters seem overclocked to me.

I just realized, I haven't done Gladiatorial Roleplaying since... 1st Ed.

Black Plauge

So, I need some commitement. Lord Twig, will you run a tournament?

If not, I'll run something. I'm not sure what yet (I'll probably put it to a poll) but there will be another tournament.

Lord Twig
1st of March, 2006, 08:08
I will run a tournament. I will post something later today on proposed rules and open it for discussion.

Keep in mind that I have a limited number of supplements. So we will be limited to Core, Complete, and SRD unless I can get my hands on some other books. I do have the Expanded Psionics Handbook as well, but don't think it will come into play.

Black Plauge
1st of March, 2006, 08:12
As the sponsering party the rules of the tournament are entirely at your discretion, including allowed resources.

I do recommend getting feedback on the rules, but you'll find that most of the rules problems that come up won't appear until it becomes an issue during game play. Heck, you can see how many problems have appeared in the running of my tournament.

Anyway, I'll adjust the schedule to reflect the changes.

In an effort to learn more about psyonics specifically and about DMing in general (and because I think it'd be fun), I'd like to run a Psionic Tournament. Please add me to the list of upcoming events.

Black Plauge
9th of May, 2006, 06:29
It has been so added. You're currently scheduled for after the Gladiator Tournament (which comes after the current Duel Arcana), which gives you some time to figure out your rules.

Christine

I'm volunteering to run a tournament after the other ones in the list are finished. The exact nature of the tournament is TBA.

Linklegacy77
13th of May, 2006, 02:41
I'd be interested in DMing a tourny. I'm thinking of a double elimination game with fighters and casters allowed. Basically, you can be whatever class you clear through me first.

Black Plauge
13th of May, 2006, 03:33
I'm glad people are offering to host, but I need something a little more definate in the way of a title in order to put it on the schedule.

Also, titles which give people perusing the schedule an idea of what the tournament will be about are greatly appreciated.

Linklegacy77
13th of May, 2006, 04:34
Okay, how about: Challenge of Power, a test of your skills.

Christine
13th of May, 2006, 10:34
Mine will be "Mounted Masters".

It will be a test of riding/combat skills (jousting tournament). It will use different rules than are in the complete warrior though.

Noocytx

Not sure where to post this, so I thought of using this thread.

I was reading through complete warrior the other day, and read over the rules for the Alabaster Cup. I liked what I read, and wondered if anybody would be interested.

This would be a multi-event tourny, just like the rules. It would follow the general guidelines, but could change depending on my decision.

As for how it works, the Alabaster cup is comprised of seven events:
An archery contest
An obstacle course
A single-elimination wrestling match
A single-elimination jousting tournament
A hunt for the most exclusive dire boar
A contest held by the noblewoman to be impressed by the competitors
A single-elimination duel (melee, no ranged)

The would require broad entries, rather than specific sword weilding, or jousting, or grappling, archery builds. They will have to compete in everything.

Just wondering if anyone is interested, I will probably volunteer to run the tournament if there is enough interest.

Also, just to note, I would probably make a limit of 8 entries, as to make sure the tournament doesn't last to long with the multiple elimination tournaments.

Only if it is low level.

generaljimX
25th of September, 2006, 08:19
I just read over the Abalaster cup the other day as well. It was very intriguing, and I'd be interested in participating. What level would you run it at, Nooc?

Noocytx
25th of September, 2006, 09:24
Wasn't really sure yet. Was thinking low-mid levels. Probably will run it at ECL 6 first time around, seeing that as a good knight / knight in training level.

Chris Chandler
25th of September, 2006, 23:05
That sounds like an awesome, meaningful tournament. It'd be fun. I second the ECL of around 6. Maybe a little higher or lower, but 6 would be quite acceptable.

Noocytx
26th of September, 2006, 00:36
BP, can you add me to the schedule of Events. I will be running "The Alabaster Cup."

And I know I have quite a wait ahead of me to run it, just wanted to volunteer now before there is an even longer wait.

Black Plauge
26th of September, 2006, 00:49
Well, given that Christine hasn't posted since May 25th, the wait isn't so long as it may have appeared. Her tournament has now been removed from the schedule.

Noocytx
26th of September, 2006, 00:59
Thanks BP.

Btw - what's the next tournament going to be?

I don't think Link wants to start the next one just now with the CR Challenge going on and I haven't seen Nootcyx around in a while. What about some kind of monstrous action? Hrhm... anyone any ideas or volunteering to DM?

Crazy Eben?

Black Plauge
16th of February, 2008, 04:07
Well, I'm currently planning my next tournament, but it won't be starting until June at the earliest, as I plan on it being a 4e tournament.

Beyond that, however, it is up to people to volunteer their time to sponsor and run tournaments. How about running one yourself Tash?

BlackMage
16th of February, 2008, 05:04
I'd be willing to put the time into sponsoring a tourney, but would like some ideas on what people would like to do. I'll think about it over the next few days and post back, but would appreciate any insights that everybody else has into what they'd like.

Tashalar
16th of February, 2008, 05:26
Beyond that, however, it is up to people to volunteer their time to sponsor and run tournaments. How about running one yourself Tash?I've been thinking about that, BP. I lack a good idea though. Good in this case means:
Fun, not too complex, involving rules that I know rather well.

So... if I have an idea which would work well or anyone else posts an idea that I am allowed to pick up, I'd probably be game.

Btw - thanks for moving the post. I had forgotten all about this thread which had sunken far beneath the gladiatorial and psionic tourney threads.

Black Plauge

It's my job.

Tashalar

:)

How about asking Andorax to host another Conjurer's Chess tourney? I haven't actually read any of them in detail, but it sounded fun.

Black Plauge
16th of February, 2008, 07:32
Go ahead and ask him. He's reared his head over at Dragon Avenue.

Tashalar
16th of February, 2008, 08:08
Will do so. DA is the reason I thought of it in the first place. I kinda made the connection when everyone reacted as if a real 'oldie' had returned. Off to PM him.

Tashalar
16th of February, 2008, 17:46
He won't be sponsoring another Conjurer's Chess - for now. Maybe if we play out the Escape of the Slaves, enough time will pass and he'll change his mind though.

Or at least we have time to come up with an awesome follow-up. Which I might run.

I'd also be open to another Duel Arcana, really - simply because I haven't participated in one before. LT?

Tashalar

Not sure whether Andorax will sponsor the CC here or on Dragon Avenue - but wanted to keep everyone updated regardless:
http://www.dragonavenue.com/forums/viewthread/537/

The old Conjurer's Chess tourneys took place here - the threads aren't visible any more though. Is it possible to revert the 'soft delete' and make them visible for a little while so that we can figure out what CC was all about?

Black Plauge
23rd of February, 2008, 02:02
Only the Conjurer's Chess Exhibition matches were here in any capacity and they have not been deleted in any way. All other CC matches took place on 3rdedtion.org forums and cannot be recovered (so far as I know).

Black Plauge
15th of March, 2008, 07:42
So, it's official. I've added Survivor 4e to the list of tournaments. Hopefully things will work out with the timing and I won't be forced to rejigger it's position in the list.

Tashalar
15th of March, 2008, 07:58
Um... Link won't host another tournament/challenge for another year or so I'd wager. Noocytx has fallen off the the ORP-interwebs. So... there's really nothing coming up when the psionic tourney ends in approx. 2 weeks.

Although... it might take longer if Boom succumbs to public demand and hosts a final battle. The Escape of the Brains. Or something like that.

Black Plauge
15th of March, 2008, 08:11
Well, maybe a tournament break is in order. Give everyone a chance to take a breather and really think about what they're going to play in Survivor 4e. I'll start working on the rules formatting so that people can begin planning.
