When categorisation of monster types first was attempted, the scholars of the time observed that there was an distinct type of creature and ‘attacks’ which seemed to consist of Darkness or Shadow. Due to this, the category of “Dark Type” was created. Initial thoughts on the subject speculated that the darkness was evilness embodied, and as such Dark type Monsters were often shunned or attacked by the population.

This style of thought passed away with the onset of civilisation, and true science, generally still only held by the very superstitious and a few obsolete organizations. This however left open the question of what Dark type attacks actually were. It is know that it is not darkness in the conventional form (a void of light), but rather exhibits some light absorbing qualities to give it the impression of darkness.

Theories sprung up in multitudes in an attempt to explain this, ranging from Dark type Monsters being proof of Alien existence, to Dark type attacks being the returned spirit of long dead music prodigy Mitilu Vermug.

The majority of these theories are held in disdain by the scientific community, which currently holds up Dark Matter Theory. This theory states - based upon thousands of mathematical calculations, hours of observation, and random dreams – that dark type Monsters and attacks are examples of an extra-dimensional force seeping into our world.

Widely praised and criticised, the Dark Matter Theory is the leading contender to explain this phenomenon, so far eluding any attempts to disprove it. By a similar vein, backers of the theory have yet been able to provide conclusive proof to support it.
