LeeCHeSSS, a few of us noticed that you are implementing some new features over at the development site. Is that the way this place is going to look or are you still mucking around with it?

Some observations from the peanut gallery:
BlackPlague said: I don't like the way the links to diffrent pages are in the new format. All stretched out in one line.

I said: I've decided I hate the way the new threads look. I much prefer the user info on one side than having it sprawled across the top of every post. It uses up way too much screen real estate the new way.

Just figured you might want some feedback, premature though it may be.

Oh, you people must've received the subscription email from that one test post I made...

About BP's complaint: it will be fixed to the old style (the current new look is the new default look, which I find horrid as well).
About your complaint: it will be a user selectable option to choose either the new or legacy postbit.

Ah, good.

Okay, I had another look and I like it much better. A few small gripes, but I think these fall more in the realm of personal preference than anything else.

Thread display: I prefer the posts continuous. The new format puts a little space between each post instead of the thin line that seperates them right now. For me, it makes it harder to read.

Last post information (forums): Right now, this takes up like three lines next to the forum name. It isn't that big a deal, but I'd rather this was shortened to one line. The forum list would take up less space, and I like seeing more threads in less space. To be honest, this is probably more because of the way my Reflections forum is set up than anything else - the sub forum list takes up a huge amount of space the new way.

Signatures: Still no way to mark a thread with "do not display signatures", eh?

I agree with the Last Post cell being too big - they put too much irrelevant information there anyway.
Subforums will disappear again for all but Inquiries and Adventurer's Escapades.

However, those subforums, thread banning (unless no-one cares about that), signatures and probably more thingies I am yet to encounter all require me to dive into vb3's code and hack it. So it'll take a while before you'll see those changed.

No problem. And I do like the thread banning option (not that I've actually had to use it).

Just some more comments:

Quick reply should be automatically active. Its kind of annoying to have to click a icon (which isn't clearly identified) just to activate the quick reply box.

User names don't have to be quite so big.

I'm not sure I like the movement/replacement of the sticky icon. Having both the icon and the "Sticky:" pre-trailer seems a bit redundant, but then again it might grow on me.

I like the subscription icon. Makes it easier to keep track of which threads I'm already subscribed to. (Currently you have to go find the list in your control panel.)

I'll second BP's observations (with the exception of the subscription thing, which I have no opinion on).

The click for Quick reply is necessary for threaded mode (the system has to know to which post you are replying). However I have already made a hack that will allow me to disable threaded mode per forum. I can probably expand it to disable it per thread (so you only enable it for non-IC threads)...

The usernames are indeed too big.

The sticky-icon doesn't hurt anyone... I don't think it would make anyone's life better if I removed it.

I think he likes the icon, but not the way it writes the word "Sticky:" before the post.

Oh, and I really like the new placement of the attachment icon  .

Another real-estate gripe: the "thread starter" is listed underneath each thread instead of next to it, so the threads themselves take up more room than they need to.

Gral is somewhat correct. I like the icon. What I don't like is having both the icon after the thread title and the "Sticky:" before it. I'm prefectly happy with the system in current use where the icon precedes the title (i.e. is in the position of "Sticky:") and that is the only indication of a thread's sticky status.

LeeCHeSSS

Err, the current system uses "Important:" to denote a stickified thread, no icon whatsoever.

Damn! I'm confusing forums again. Anyway consider that a suggestion as to what to change it.

That is of coures what I meant in the first place.:paranoid:

Also, could the Online/Offline indicators be a little more diffrent. White versus blue checkmarks are just too similar for me.
