Chapter 1 - So Long, Farewell

The end of six months of training. A period which was both too long and far too short, learning so much about the way the world really works, your new part in it, and your monsterous companions in such a short space of time. And yet, the knowledge that your new life was so far away, the excitement of the missions, being a part of something so grand and important. It has indeed been a crowded period, and now it is almost the start of Summer.

General Hein stands before you once again,
"Six Months of intensive training and bonding, not just with your monsters but with one another. And yet you still have not chosen a team name for yourselves, well time has run out. Today you are no longer in training, but before I detail your task..."
The screen shows a rotating render of an underground research complex

"There has been an incident. This facility is located in an isolated spot to the north of Jalis, or possibly I should say was. This morning at around 4am we lost contact with this research outpost. Of course, the exact details of what they were doing aren't known by anyone but the Head Research Leader, such is the nature of the foundation. What we do know is that it involved Genetic Experimentation, and the overall project was named..."
The screen changes to display the project title along with it's sub-components, webbed together in a tree diagram, with each also listing staff
"The Seven Deady Sins, and as you might expect it is broken down into seven sub-projects. Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed and Sloth. All very dramatic. Now we know that these projects were designed to create covert weapons which could be used should the Foundation ever decide to extend itself beyond living in the shadows. We have of course dispatched a team to investigate, but our current suspicions involve the escape of the weapons. At all times you will be needed to keep your eyes and ears open for anything relating to the project, we will continue investigation at this end and keepyou informed. The ultimate task will be the capture of termination of the weapons."

The screen change once again to show a variety of monsters,
"During the course of your missions you will see and experience much. Even the so called experts are unsure about a number of species of monster. Most refuse to even hazard a guess. Monsters have some powerful and potentially very useful abilities. You are advised to capture as many monsters as possible during your travels, those you do not wish to use should be taken to one of our outposts. Here you can have them stored, and with a call shuffled between outposts for use, or you can hand them over to our research department. Rare monsters will be most welcome, but there are even common types with a useful combonation of abiltiies or even potential abilities."

Another sudden switch, the screen now proudly displays a bottle of Nuke-a-cola, with a banner below :
"Nuke-a-cola's Novice Level Summer Knockout Tournament"
A slightly smile appears on the face of the general,
"Currently you lack experience of actual battling and the world of monster training. Your first task is simple familiarisation. Your team has been booked in for the tournament tomorrow. You only need to take part, see how the systems work, learn who the upcoming new faces are. I will emphasize that you are not being asked to cheat, ensure your victory, another's victory, or another's loss. Simply join in and learn from the experience."

The screen displays a map which shifts as the General talks following the route he details,
"A car will shortly arrive for you, which will take you to the train station. The car ride should last around half an hour. Your train is due at 10am, it will take just over two hours to reach Oldale Town, the arena itself is a short walk from the town. You will need to report there to inform the registra of your Team Name. The tournament will open at 10am, and the first battles will begin at around 11. The tournament is split into two parts, each trainer may only enter a single section. You have been entered into the team section, which is the heart of most tournaments and requires early sign-ups. There is also an individual trainer aspect, where the lone-wolves, arrogant and teamless will battle."

The screen fades,
"You are reminded that you must carry your pagers with you at all times. The car will be here soon, does anyone have any questions before you begin your lives as agents?"

[ooc: about the pagers, each of you has either had their monster pda upgraded or has been presented with a little clam-shell device, it is for recieving information from the foundation. Private messages will be PMed to you, the rest, will be placed in the Messages Thread.]

Sean tugs at his glove, making sure it fits snugly. "Our first mission is..to take a ride in a car, then a train? And I was thinking this whole thing was about us actually doing things.." Sean releases Kito from the glove and they both sit down to wait, beginning a breathing exercise to pass the time.

"We're doing something...the tournament. We're novices afterall, I agree that the experience garnered will be valuable. Afterall we can turn to thievery next mission."

Says Will with a smile

"Thievery?" Robyn says, a bit nervous sounding, "I'm not quite so eager to do so as you might be, Will. I'd prefer to not cross the line just yet."

"Oh, just one question, General, sir... didn't you get my recommendation for the team name, you know, Team Bobbin?"

Sean opens an eye and gives a small smile. "Why not? Let us be named after sewing stuff. That'll put fear into our opponents, won't it? Fear us, or we'll spool you.."

Will shakes his head.

Team Bobbin...why not team fluffy white rabbit, or perhaps team rocket...what kind of joke is this.

"Perhaps we should discuss it further on the trip to the tournament."

Says Will with a roll of the eyes.

[BigRedRod]

Hein raises an eyebrow
"That was a serious suggestion? I'm sorry, I had presumed it was merely a joke. And yes your first task is very basic, but as of now you lack the experience you need to pass as trainers, and taking part would be much faster and more useful than a lecture series"

The general raises a hand to the side of his head,
"Well, no time for further questions. You car is outside the school. I wish you well in the tournament"

The expensive polished black car was indeed waiting outside the school gates. The windows all tinted sufficently so you couldn't see inside, even in the car you couldn't see the driver due to the black screen. Still the seats were leather and the driving was smooth. An unmarked envelope waited on one of the seats. Inside it contained four tickets, it looks like you have an entire compartment to yourselves. The journey lasted a little longer than expected but you reach the station a little after quarter to ten

As the last of you left the car at the station it drove away and you were left having not heard a single word from the driver. The local trainstation was quite small, just being a rarely used rural stop outside Jalis City. The train pulled in almost at the same time as you entered the station. Passing through the unmanned ticket barriers, you board the train to find it suprisingly full, a stark contrast to the empty station. More than a few of those on the train would appear to be fellow trainers. You quickly locate your compartment, and find it be quite large just for the four of you

The train begins to pull away, next stop New Haven Station. Another small station en route to Oldale Town and the settlements beyond to the west.

[ooc: I thought I'd start this game with chances for RP rather than action. Feel free to chat, about anything, team name, how much you are going to violate the other teams, excitement, how much you love nuka-a-cola, your hopes and dreams, whatever, I'll push forward at some point]

"Team Bobbin...how rediculous."

Will scowls, he could not believed it was a legitimate suggestion.

"So does anyone have any other suggestions? What do you think of Team Vanguard? It seems quite fitting now that we're agents of the foundation don't you think."

Says Will with a slight smile.

"Honestly, I'd like a name that isn't too terrible sounding, something I'd be proud saying. Maybe we should think of something we all have in common, and choose a name along those lines? I don't like Vanguard, it sounds a bit too ominous, and, well, weird."

"Point taken...any other suggestions?"

Says Will leaning forward

"I think it would be best if we didn't stand out too much yet. I'd like something..respectable, but not overly memorable. We can always change names later, can't we? Hmm..anyone know the names of some other teams? It'd be easier to name ourselves if we knew what team names are like in this area."

[itches]

Through out the car ride Amicula stays quiet, releasing Lio from the glove once they are on the train, and quietly begins to play with her while the others discuss a team name.

"Does what we name our team really matter? I mean, it's just a cover."

Turning to half look at them from the side, she continues.

"Bobbin might be a ridiculous name, but it has merit. For instance it will make us seam at least partially like a joke. As such people will be likely to underestimate us."

Turning back to her monster, Amicula finishes.

"I really don't care that much about a team name, as long as it doesn't end up being something like "Super-Happy-Rainbow-Friends"

"I would prefer going into this tournament not being a joke. What about Team WARS? An acronym made up form the first letters of our names....what do you think?"

Says Will as he glances at the scenery flashing by out the window.

[itches]

"Pride cometh before the fall," Amicula mutters to herself turning back.

"Robyn had a problem with Vanguard because of the ominous sounding nature of the word. Do you really think wars gets around that?"

Moving away from Lio and up to Robyn, wrapping her arms around the girl.

"What if we take our last names, and get G.L.A.M?"

"GLAM sound good to me, Amicula," Robyn says, grinning and snuggling up against her, "Gives us both a nice-sounding, and also a bit mysterious name."

Sean leans back into his seat as images of sequins, overdone makeup, and ugly hair flash through his head..he shakes it off, figuring there probably won't be a better suggestion. "Alright. I'll tolerate GLAM."

"Okay I can tollerate GLAM aswell...I just hope it isn't one to stick."

Says Will continuing to stare outsid the window at the passing scenery.

Looking back at Lio, who is siting in a chair - staring back intently, Amicula smiles and looks back to her fellow GLAM team members.

"So, what did you all think about our training?"

[SponkleofInfini]

"It was sufficient..."

Says Will uninterested.

[BrianL03]

"C'mon, you must have a few more opinions about it that just that, Will," Robyn says, looking a little pouty, "You and... Infini, that's it, Infini... you've had to have had a few neat events and such, as well as some cool discoveries?"

"Yes well I guess I am close to unlocking some of Infini's hidden potential."

Smiling Will Continues

"And there was that time he helped me hack...I ah..."

Will stops short of incriminating himself further infront of the group. However he continues to think about the training and Will cannot help but continue to smile as he looks outside.

"Well, Tipper here," and at this point, Robyn pulls out a token and releases the Hydrotort, petting her head and scratching her chin, "has been an excellent swimmer and friend this time. You wouldn't believe the number of times she's beaten me on a 100m swim!"

"I remember when I realized Kito could get nearly anywhere. I was training him on a high rope. First, he just ran across it like it was broad ground. So I tossed a beanbag at him..knocked him off the rope. He just bounced onto the ground and jumped back to the rope. I don't think there's any surface he couldn't walk on, now."

Robyn laughs at Sean's comment about Kito, "Sounds like you had an excellent session that time! And I'm glad you used beanbags, too, instead of something worse like rocks or bowling balls," she said with a grin.

Giving Robyn a quick kiss on the neck as Lio gets off the seat and floats over.

"I too learnt much about Lio. She's .. well the only word that does her justice is cool. She is probobly my second favorate thing right now," she says with a smile.

"Awwwwwwww, thanks Amicula," Robyn says, leaning her head against Amicula's chest and getting a bit comfortable.

"Oh," Amicula says grinning.

"Who said I was talking about you? I do have that really good Portable MP3 Player."

"You kidder!" Robyn says with a smirk, and lightly bops Amicula in the arm as best she can from her position, "Stop being so silly!"

"So," Robyn gets into a better position so she can look at the other two trainers, "What's our general strategy for the team battles?

[SponkleofInfini]

"Perhaps we should mention what monster is good at what specialty...Infini's is stealth. I feel Infini's place in the battle is to try and get out of sight and make sneak attacks against unaware foes. I would need to rely on you guys to try and keep the other monsters busy while Infini does this. However if push comes to shove I guess he can fight head on. The more dizzle dazzle you guys can perform to throw the enemy off the better."

Says Will turning to Robyn

"We should probably go for combined assualts. I don't know about the rest of you, but Kito still isn't very accurate, so trying to pair off one on one with opponents is going to be long, at least." Sean leans back to watch the terrain flow past the window, and is mildly surprised by the overwhelming sameness of it. "Kito's specialty is speed, for now. He could be used to break the enemy line and tie up the opponent's biggest threat..I tried to teach him some wrestling moves, so he's got a decent shot at pinning. If he can get a pin, the rest of our monsters should be able to finish off the monster he pinned quickly."

"Tipper will be able to take pretty much everything they throw at her, except possibly for any grass or electric attacks. So she could probably distract the bigger threats, so long as she might not have a weakness against them. Tipper also has a very nasty bite, she'll be able to hold on no matter how much the opponent tries to shake her off. I should know, she plays a wicked game of Tug of War."

"I don't know about the other monsters, but Lio" - who had my by made her way over to stare at Kito - " has a ranged attack. Maybe we could use that to our advantage."

Kito eyes Lio, then leaps into the air and onto a higher vantage point, as if to say "You're not the only one who can fly." Meanwhile, Sean responds to Amicula's statement. "Ranged attack..oh yeah. That psych-pitch thing. That'll probably help a lot. Uh..how heavy a thing can Lio actually throw? If there's nothing she can handle on the battlefield, we might want to bring our own ammo for her."

"It's a good idea," Amicula says, nodding.

"She can only throw things up to about 1kg, so if before the battles, we just collect some junk to take to the ring side, it should work."

Amicula has just finished speaking when the passing countryside is suddenly replaced with a view of a train station filled with small clusters of people milling around. A suprisingly clear voice announces Oldale Town Station from some unseen speaker which has announced every stop so far

The station itself contains little but two train platforms, lacking most of the assortment of shops, simply having a coffee-bar filled with sour looking train passengers. Moving through the exit deposits the group directly in the centre of town.

Oldale town centre is a typical modern pedestrianised area, a statue of a man dressed in an old military uniform holding a sword stands proudly cast from now dull bronze in the centre of the square, he is surrounded by four benches and four open rectnagles of water that shimmer under the warm mid-day sunlight. A banner hangs across each edge of the square above the pavement,
"Oldale Town is proud to present Nuke-a-cola's Novice Level Summer Knockout Tournament"
Each of the banners contains a small "map" which crudely shows the centre of town and a red line through what you guess is a forest and into a blue circle containing a bottle of Nuke-a-cola. The designer clearly couldn't decide between style and information and settled for providing neither very well.

A large number of people are milling around the town centre, some are shopping, others just standing around chatting. You can see about a dozen people who you would assume are trainers

Returning Lio to her glove, Amicula makes her way out of the station. Taking a glance around the town centre she turns to the others and suggests.

"How about we register now, get it out of the way, and then grab something to eat?"

"Sounds good to me, hun. It's better to not let things pile up, and to remove them all individually before they become a chore. Now, I'm guessing we're going through either a park or a forest, that map isn't quite up to snuff," Robyn looks around for someone who looks like a trainer or group of them, hoping that perhaps the more that're travelling, the less likely they would get lost.

"Sounds good to me also."

Sean catches up with the others and glances around, making sure Kito doesn't start a fight before it's time. "We're looking for a stadium, aren't we? Can't be too hard to find."

It doesn't take long to work out which way you should be heading to find the site for tomorrow's tournament and registration.
After pasing by the statue and passing between the buildings you arrive at a road suddenly breaking up the central pedestrian area. Across it is a rather large wood with a broad gravel path curcing between the larger trees. The banner across the path and numerous children rather spoil the tranquil wood.

No one pays much attention to Team G.L.A.M. as they walk along the path. You can hear cries of frustration and delight comoing from the trees, no doubt trainers are catching monsters and battling amongst themsevles in anticipation of tomorrow.

The walk is longer than you might have hoped, but eventually the forest vanishes revealing a huge clearing. The ground dips downwards, steps or seats have been carved out of the rock at the sides forming a crude arena, perhaps when it was built hundreds of years ago there had been more to it. But now it is simply a depression in the ground with stone step-seats and a large flat exapnse in the centre. This is currently occupied by a large red and black tent surrounded by three rectangular areas for battling.

The first is simply a raised metal stage, the second is more elaborate being mostly water with rocky outcrops, the third is a recreation of a dusty rocky region. The three battle stages are raised from the ground and contian areas for both teams to stand at at the edges. There is a large amount of metal scaffolding around, it is being used to aid the creation of the tents and also seems to be having video equipment attached.

The edge of the path has another banner, everything seems to have "Nuka-a-cola" or at least their logo plastered on it. There is a stall near the edge of the arena which proclaims itself to be the "Registration Stand", off to your left it looks like a market is being set-up.

A number of people are scurrying around to ensure everything is ready in time for tomorrow morning. There are also a few children who could well be trainers at the registration stand, as you approach they walk past without noticing you , all are staring at a leaflet. The woman manning the stall looks at the four of you, she is clearly very bored indeed

Approaching the stand with the others, getting in line if there is one, Will asks the women;

"We're here to register for the team event/s."

[BigRedRod]

"All members scan your palms and give me the team name."
Her voice is distant and she hardly looks at Will as she speaks

The woman has a laptop behind the stall and there is a metal plate with a handprint angled towards the side that the team are stood on

"Team GLAM, that's G, L, A, M," Robyn says enthusiastically, and places her hand on the pad, "and I'm Robyn Mulcahy."

Early on in the walk, Amicula had fallen silent, withdrawing from her companions. Ignoring any attempt by the others to draw her into conversation.

It is only several more minutes before she pulls out her MP3 player and turns it on, forestalling any future attempt by anyone to talk to her.

Upon arriving at the registration area, she notes Robyn playing her hand on the pad, and silently follows suit.

Will does as is asked of him for registration, placing his hand upon the pad, giving his name and so on.

Sean runs through the registration process as quickly as he can, then turns to the others. "And now we're free. What's next? Find someplace to stay?"

[BigRedRod]

After the fourth print the woman speaks again looking at the laptop,
"It's telling me you've been pre-registered and paid, so that's all I need. Read this, and be here before eleven am tomorrow morning."
She hands a leaflet to Robyn

It contains a tiny amount of information hidden between paragraphs of gibberish about monsters, trainers and Nuka-a-cola in general. The key point of interest is the section on tournament rules


1. All teams must be registered by 5pm on the 6th of May
2. Solo trainers may register before 10:30am on 7th of May
3. All trainers must posses no gym badges
4. Trainers are advised not to purchase any goods from non-official vendors at the event
5. Each trainer may use a saingle monster for each battle
6. If two teams competeing are of different sizes the larger team will only be allowed to put forward as many active trainers as the smaller team has
7. There is no restriction on item usage during or before battles, although any monsters found to have had illegal performance enchancing drugs used on them will be disqualified and reported to the Police
8. A trainer interferring directly in a battle (either with another monster or another trainer) will be disqualified instantly
9. Prizes will be awarded after both team and solo tournaments are complete.
10. Prizes will not be finalised until the prize-giving
11. Have fun!


Of the few other notable details is the grand prize for the team and solo tournaments. The title of "Nuke-a-cola's Team/Trainer to watch 2003", although no doubt similar titles are given out at the dotted similar events across the country

"Hmm, yes a place to stay would be a good idea...however I wouldn't mind getting in a battle or two with some of these trainers before tommorow."

Says Will eyeing off some of the trainers in the area.

[BrianL03]

"'Saingle'? Do you think they meant 'single', perhaps, because I don't know what a 'saingle' monster is," Robyn says with a giggle after looking over the pamphlet, "Anyhow, I'm all for going to a youth center or something and dropping our things off. A battle sounds okay, but we don't want our little friends getting too roughed up before the matches."

"They'll have the night to rest. Even if we should happen to get a real bad beating, there's bound to an UmbCenter or something nearby. We should probably find a visitor center or something to ask about places to stay. There was one right by the train station, wasn't there?" Even as he tries to keep his mind on the business at hand, Sean is distracted by trying to size up the other trainers in the area.

As Will speaks he notices the sudden absence of trainers on the path, but as he finishes speaking a voice shouts from behind,
"Hey Kid!"
Will turns to see a girl around his age. She wears a white and pink sleevless top, yellow shorts and long pink fingerless gloves. A large charm or tag dangles around her neck. She is wearing a small white monster-capture glove. Bracing herself she projects a surge of red energy from the glove. A large black fox-like creature with silver patterning (possibly dyed highlights) emerges from the energy. Will recognises the creature as an Ebil as it presses itself to the ground in prepartion for a fight

Four previously unseen trainers appear from the trees, and stand at the edge of the wood watching the upcoming battle. The four trainers all look fairy inexperienced, you guess they have been trying to capture monsters, either that or they just prefer climbing through thick trees rather than taking the path

"Time to battle! Go Aoi! One Each, no switches"
The girl announces to will and the small cluster of spectators, who all turn towards Will to see what monster he will use

Hmm I had no intention of fighting just now. However this will be valuable experience for me...my first real battle. I just hope Bth Infini and I are up to it.

"Very well...go Infini."

Outstretching his hand, he summons Infini, with a projection of light Infini emerges ready for battle, the runes covering his body glowing a bright purple.

(OOC: Does Will know anything else about the monster other then name, like type, possible attacks etc? What's innitiative?)

[ooc: Ebil is a dark type, you would expect the trainer to be as inexperienced as yourself making any form of specia lattack unlikely, although it is known for a nasty bite, depsite the fact you wouldn't expect it from it's appearance]

The two creatures stand a short distance away from one another before their trainers for a moment and then the girl yells,
"Aoi! Charge and Bite"
The large fox-like creature dashes forward toward the rune-covered creature, bounds at it. As it jumps it opens it's mouth, destroying it's formerly cute appearance by displaying it's sharp fangs. Infini barely manages to dodge, the Ebil landing close by his side

Not hearing the other trainer call out, due to the music playing into her ears. However, it quickly comes to her attention when a battle breaks out.

Taking several sudden steps back, she looks at the 2 trainers, and their monsters in disdain. Turing she slowly continues to walk along the path.

Robyn looks excitedly at the match, cradling Tipper close to her, when out of the corner of her eye, she notices Amicula turning to walk away. Not wanting Amicula to get too distanced from the group, Robyn scoots after her and catches up.

"Hun, what's up? Aren't you going to watch how well Sean and Infini do in combat against a real trainer?"

Pulling out her earpiece, Amicula looks quizzical at Robyn, speaking in the girls' native tongue.

"What was that? I couldn't hear through the music. Stay for the battle? No I don't see the point really."

Glancing behind her at the battle.

"This is his first battle so - win or loose - I'm positive I'll hear about it later."

Leaning forward and kissing the other girl on the cheek, Amicula turns to walk off again.

"You stay here if you want, I’m going to see if I can find somewhere more quiet."

"No, hang on, I'm gonna come with you," Robyn says, and starts to follow Amicula, "I don't want the group getting too separated or anything. Besides, maybe we can find someone to battle with ourselves."

Sighing inwardly Amicula puts her mp3 player away. The prospect of finding a battle for themselves fills her with no shortage of chagrin.

While it makes sense to have their first match before the official tournament tomorrow, right now Amicula just wanted to find somewhere quite and be alone.

Almost telling the other girl to just leave her alone - only just biting the words back before they are formed, Amicula wonders why she even bothers.

You know what's going to happen, her internal voice echoes.

You know what she is going to do. just like the rest of them. you know it, so why do you even bother?

Vainly trying to ignore the voice, amicula smiles wanly at her partner.

"yeah okay, that might be fun."

You're a fool for thinking it will be any different this time. A fool for trying.

"Hoorah!" Robyn says, and jumps and claps her hands together, before taking one of Amicula's, "Let's just wander for a bit. We'll let any potential trainers come to us."

Robyn then begins to stroll with Amicula along the path through the woods, enjoying the shade and buzzing of cicadas.

Winching visibly at her companion’s exuberance, Amicula lets herself be pulled along. Looking down at the hand that holds her as she walks, Amicula gives it a tight squeeze and breaks into a small, but genuine smile.

After several minutes of walking through the glades, She pulls Robyn to a stop.

"Hun, lets stop, the walking to starting to get to me. There is a vender over there, so we can grab something to eat, and find someplace quite to sit. What do you think?"

"Sure, sounds good... I'm kinda starved, too," Robyn says, screwing up her face as her stomach growls a little, "And it's been a bit of a long day... to the vendor!"

Sean follows the girl's lead and decides to leave Will to his fight. He looks around, then heads off into the woods. "Kito..look around. Find us a monster or a trainer or something." The rabbit runs off ahead, deftly picking its way through sticks and rocks.

[BigRedRod]

Sean walks slowly through the woods, scanning for any signs of Kito. A moment later there is an odd noise and Kito leaps backwards, landing a few feet before Sean. A large spider just short of two feet long clings to the base of a branch with it's eight eyes locked on the Kihare.

The mandibles of the creature open and close in anticipation, Sean notices how powerful they appear to be. The creature is covered in thick yellow bands but the young trainer remains blissfully unaware of it's species, type, gender or any other interesting or useful facts.

The spider-monster clearly has a terrain advantage with it's ability to crawl across any surface with ease and the close-knit nature of the trees around Sean and Kito

Spider..probably a Bug. Kito's at disadvantage here. "Kito..get up there and get on its back. Prepare to crush. Stay away from those jaws." The agile rabbit bounds up the branches, making its final leap directly from the branch below the spider to the spider's back.

(Tackle attempt, hopefully from behind. Technically not yet an attack.)

Pushing off from the trunk of the tree Kito leaps and turns in the air, grabbing on to the back of the creature supported on the underside of the branch. The combined weight is clearly too much and both fall to the ground, but the Kihare manages to maintain it's hold, the spider-creature wrestles with him trying to bite with it's powerful mandibles but it fails.

[ooc: The spider takes 5 damage from the fall, I'll be nice and let Kito off due to him causing the fall and having special movement]

Being dragged off again, Amicula and Robyn quickly get food from the vender and find a shady spot under a tree to eat it. Not knowing exactly what the food is, Amicula assumes that she is better off not knowing.

After chewing dedicatedly for a minute or two she turns to look at the girl she has becomes involved in.

"Hun," she says quietly. "Wha- Tell me about your home."

"Good. Now crush it. Remember the sumo fights we watched? Squeeze it to submission." Kito adjusts his grip to hold the spider as tightly as possible and begins applying all his weight to compress the spider.

The kihare crushes the squirming bug, it makes a sick little cracking noise but manages to wiggle free of the hold and moves a short distance away, atop a small rock poking from the undergrowth. It's mandibles twitch as it watches for the next attack

"Huh? My home?" Robyn says, blinking her eyes for a second, "My home? Um, well... it's just... marvelous. I haven't seen any landscapes here yet that compare, but it's purely amazing. The town stretches all the way along the coastline, so no matter where you go, you're no more than a few hundred meters from the seafront. Just sitting out on the beach is probably the best way to describe it. Either at day and watching the sunlight glitter on the ocean. or at night, when the Latbells are out in their schools and lighting up sections of the sea... it's too good to talk about, almost. I hope you can experience it with me one day, Ami.

Mom would always fix the best meals, even when she had to work late nights with the town's fishing 'mons. As you'd probably expect, a lot of the meals were of fish, but her Bourbon Xipsea was the best. I mean, it was marinated so well, and toasted... oh god... I'm feeling so homesick now, I wish I could go home and eat some of it..." Robyn by now has a combination longing and lonely look in her eyes, and looks up towards the sky as she nibbles on the food from the cart.

Feeling guilty for asking and dredging up feelings of homesickness - and not sure what to say to make it better, Amicula merely puts her arm around her girl, and eats in silence.

"Ah..that wasn't supposed to happen. Kito, show it some more stuff..start with karate, then go to judo if you get a chance." The rabbit lunges forward and up into a jumpkick, aimed a little ways behind the spider's head. Meanwhile, Sean edges his way around to flank the spider while he watches Kito's progress.

Kito leaps into the air and attempts a downwards strike on the spider-creature. It seemingly anticipates the attack, but a fraction of a second too late, the kick catches a glancing blow to one of it's legs.

The spider counter attacks in a fluid movement, it's mandibles pierce the soft fur of the Kihare and dig in deep. Blood begins to spread from the wound and the wild spider seems unwilling to relinguish it's hold

Sean yells out wordlessly as Kito is injured. A second later, he dashes towards the spider, then crouches into a low kick aimed at its legs. "Kito..go for the eyes!"

Master and Monster converge on the spider, Kito attempts to strike the creature with it's sharp mandibles still piercing his flesh. A swift rather undisciplined kick finds it's mark on the creatures face but causes Kito more pain as the spider moves backwards with it's mandibles still sunk deep into the Kihare. Sean strikes the creature with a kick of his own, the spider is too entangled with Kito to dodge and recieves a powerful blow to one it's hind legs.

Despite the odds now stacking against it the creature stubborning refuses to let go of Kito and maintains it's deep bite. Warn, sticky, blood covers most of Kito's left arm and the insectile face of the spider-creature

Sean falls into a meditation-breathing pattern to calm his fears at the sight of so much of Kito's blood. He presses a stud on his glove, prepping a token for capture but not firing it. He then moves up to the spider's head and starts delivering unscientific, brutal bashes to the base of the spider's jaws, with the active token turned down to make contact with the monster. "Let...go! Kito, get loose, any way you can."

Kito frantically tries to pull away from the monster, placing one of it's paws between the two manibles and pushing. With a firm push the spider relases it's jaws (no doubt aided by the reign of blows from Sean) and Kito staggers backwards a few steps, breathing heavily and covering it's deep elogated bite-wounds. Sean strikes the creature again and again, it makes an odd cracking sound and cries out in pain. The awful noise of it's scream echos around the forest.

With it's hold lost and being battered from both sides the creature sees it is fighting a losing battle and scuttles toward a tree. It walks with an odd shakey motion, the damage inflicted has clearly made it more difficult for it to move. It manages to climb about a metre up a nearby thick-trunked tree

[ooc: it's good and below half health now. Bear in mind you need to fire the tokens from a glove to attempt capture]

Sean glances back at Kito, taking in the injuries before turning back to the spider-thing. "Kito..you don't want that thing to escape any more than I do, right? If you're still good for it, get above it and block its route." Sean points his clenched fist towards the climbing monster and presses the firing stud to launch the previously activated token. The greyish disc spins off the glove and flies towards the spider's abdomen, the largest target available.

Kito runs and jumps up the tree, landing on a branch which out-stretches near horizontally. As he does so he leaves a small trail of blood droplets, he leans forward to try and prevent the creature climbing any higher on this tree.

Sean fires a token toward the spider. The token goes slighlty wide of it's mark and bounces off into the unseen undergrowth.

The spider-creature scampers a little further up and then realises it won't be able to simply move past the ever-vigilent Kito, so it once again takes the offensive. Lashing out once more with a powerful bite, luckily however, Kito manages to easily lean away from the bite while still preventing it's advance

"Don't let it past you, don't let it bite you. Counter only if it's totally safe." Sean activates another token, then crouches down into a runner's ready position. He rises out of that at a full sprint towards the spider and throws his shoulder into it, bashing it as he would if he were trying to open a stuck door.

[ooc: trying to make Kito adopt total defense/hold position. Spider's still close enough to the ground I should be able to tag it.]

Kito maintains his position, baiting the spider to keep it trying to get past but at the same time not allowing it make progress.

Sean dashes toward the tree, even with the distraction of Kito, the Spider manages to run side-ways and dodge the attack.

The creature remains circling the trunk of the tree, although it casts about looking for a way down that won't expose it. It leaps from the tree on the opposite side to Kito and lands amongst the undergrowth a few metres from both the Kihare and it's master

Sean throws himself sideways to avoid making full contact with the tree and skids to an unsteady stop. After a few quick curses, he calls up to Kito. "Go after it, but go carefully. Pin it down, if you can." The rabbit gives a quick nod in acknowledgement, and leaps off its branch after the spider. Another short rain of blood drops marks the trail, and Sean warily follows it, keeping his eyes and eyes alert in case the spider decides to go after him.

Kito leaps toward the retreating spider and lands on top of it, after a brief shuffle he sits astride it's back, not holding it to the ground, but holding on to it none the less

The Spider attempts to break the hold, the thick undergrowth prevents him form moving as freely as he would like ,added to the weight of the kihare riding him and his own injuries leaves Kito still sat astride the creature

Sean pushes through the undergrowth towards the sound of the struggle, arriving in time to see Kito get a good grip. "Good work. Use your imagination now, I don't know any ways to pin something with that many legs." Kito crooks its legs around the spider's middle pair, splinting them in place, then leans forward and grabs the front pair with its paws. After (hopefully) immobilizing most of the legs in this fashion, the rabbit pushes down on the spider, trying to force it to ground.

The Spider rears backwards, giving the odd scene of Kito sat astride the creature's back with one red paw in the air and the other clutching under it's head. Using the move to his advantage Kito slams down on the creature, pushing it's body directly onto the ground as it lands. The creature fidgets and squirms but is unable to bend it's legs into a standing position

Sean walks up to the pinned spider and stares at it for a few moments before offering it a bow. "Good fight. Give up now, ok?" He pulls his gloved fist back, then taps the spider with one last light punch. The token is fired into the spider from zero range, the glove still resting against the monster's body.

The spider continues to squirm as the arcs of multi-hued energy spill from the token, it wraps around the spider-creature, who slowly begins to fade. It's body changing from a solid mass into a series of tiny black and yellow bubbles, the token remains at the centre of this, drifting slowly toward the ground. At the last minute a red spider-shaped pulse of energy stretches outward from the token and the bubbles re-shuffle to form a rough spider-shape. But then it collapses and the bubbles all join together on the token, which drops onto the wet earth.

The token is now black with a the odd whispy-white centre that indictaes an unbonded monster has been captured inside.

Kito flops onto the ground in a sitting position, still holding his wounded arm with the other paw, altohugh the blood has stopped spreading now

Sean picks up the filled token and pockets it before turning to the Kihare. "Kito..you did well. I'm sorry about that bite, I never thought what would happen if something was able to pin you down. Always planned for it to go the other way. Are you good to walk?" The rabbit sits crosslegged, eyes half closed. At the question it stands, then grimaces as its injured arm flexes and the pain catches up. Sean gently brings Kito back into his own token to spare him more pain. He then casts about for his lost token before giving it up as a bad job and starting to work his way out of the forest, hopefully to find an UmbCentre or one of his teammates.

As with most towns, it is highly likely an Umbcentre will exist somewhere in Oldale Town. As Sean walks back towardthe town he stumbles across two of his team mates sat at the base of one of the trees. You can see the road and Oldale less than a minutes walk away.
A vendor stands besides his small wheeled cart selling slightly over-priced and unhealthy food to the passing trainers. Most seem to be heading back into town at the moment, either having registered or spent the day hunting through the woods. Most ignore Sean and the two girls, preferring to keep to their themselves or their friends

Sean walks up to the two girls and greets them with a nod. "Did the two of you find the UmbCentre around here? I ran into a wild monster in the forest and Kito got hurt pretty bad....and is that guy's food any good?"

"UmbCentre?" Robyn looks quizzically at Sean as he approaches the duo, amazed he was able to find the two, "Not that I can think of, I haven't seen one... the food's okay."

"Okay is an overstatement,” Amicula says putting aside her half eaten lunch.

"It's edible I’ll give it that much."

Pulling a face, which clearly shows your impression of the food, the girl turns her gaze on Sean.

"If Kito is hurt we should probably head into town now. Beside we still have to find somewhere to stay tonight."

Most of Team GLAM set off back into town, the crowds seem to have thinned slightly. Arriving once again at the town square, the four look around and eventually spy something which could be the typical curved black, white and red roof of an UmbCentre.
Walking through the town centre towards it eventually revelas that it is in fact one of the many UmbCentres scattered through towns and cities across the globe.

This particualt UmbCentre is one of the more novelty-shaped members of the team. The building is a squat cylinder with the roof patterned in the logo of the Umbrella corporation. Everything within the building seems to have been patterned on the tri-colour scheme. Which seems to have almost managed to be tasteful but sadly fallen short, most of the Centres have been redecorated with a more modern look, no doubt Oldale Town is just too small to have warranted this yet, or some Umbrella Executive prefers the odd splash of individuality.

Through the double glass electric doors, fairly standard contents of such a centre can be seen. A desk situated before a rather complex machine, the type which holds tokens to heal the monsters within. And a number of other machines stand against walls around the perimeter of the centre. One is the specialised token-trading machine, which currently has two youths thrusting their arms inside it looking almost hysterical with excitement as the monsters are traded. The other two machines are those designed to simply attempt to bond a monster to a trainer. The rest of the interior contains a pair of vending machines, one dishing out bottles (shockingly enough though not Nuke-a-cola but it's rival brand Slurm. The machine features a wide variety of Slurm-co beverages, such as Slurm, Slurm-Diet, Slurm-coke, and New Slurm-Red), one dishing out an assortment of sweets, crisp and other staples of a healthy trainer's diet and a number of fixed brightly-coloured tables and chairs.

Behind the desk a pair of disinterested teenage girls sit chewing gum. Around half the tables are currently occupied

Sean heads to the desk and makes arrangements for Kito to be healed. He hurries the girl through the ID verification and other assorted steps, and refuses to let her out of his sight while the healing goes on, watching the girl, the machine, and the token in equal measure. As soon as he gets the supposedly healed token back, he releases Kito. "Kito? Did that work as promised? Somebody's going to be hurting if it didn't.." Kito flexes the previously injured arm and then leaps to the top of a table, where he sits down and watches the actions of the rest of the area.

"OOooooh!" Robyn gasps in amazement as the trio enters the UmbCentre, still somewhat in amazement at the grandeur of the Centres. Her eyes glitter at the wide variety of 'mon training and trading units around the area.

Robyn is drawn almost instantly over to the trading unit, where she watches the two boys trading their 'mon.

"Hi!" she says to the boys, "My name's Robyn! What 'mons are you trading?"

As Robyn draws closer she notices that both of the Kids are clutching mostly drained bottles of Slurm-Red. This possibly explains why they seem to postively vibrate with excitement, as Slurm-Red made it to national news with it's release. The Jalis Food Standards Agency were concerned that the amount of caffiene contained in the beverage could have lasting harmful effects on the target demographic, although it was still pushed through the red tape and arrived a week or so ago.
The first boy turns to the approaching girl, he can't be more than ten,
"I'm trading Reddy for Jimmy's Blue Rhapsody!!! Reddy's an Ebil, he's soooooooo cool! But I always wanted a Blue Rhapsody, I want to get all the notes! Even the ones that no one else has ever seen!"
The other seems to be around the same age, he just smiles and then speaks in an embarrased quiet voice(possibly due to the fact a girl is talking to them),
"This is taking soo long and it feels funny!"

The LCD panel on the machine remains seemingly stuck with the same display, except for the twirling line at the end of the progress line

Sean, satisfied that Kito is ok, takes the free time to examine the rest of the machines more closely. He passes by all the trading machines rapidly, having no interest in a trade at the moment. He stops at the bonding machines briefly. Got a monster, but..better find out more about it before I get myself stuck with it. He moves on, and finds a different type of machine a little ways behind the bonders. It looks sort of like a bonding machine, but only has a slot for a token, not a glove. A small plaque on it declares it to be a monster identification/information databank. Sean removes the spider's token from his pocket and drops it in the machine's slot, then activates the machine and waits for it to do its job.

The screen is filled with random data as the terminal searches the central database for details of the monster. Finally the data stablises

Essentially a large spider. It's furry body is almost always patterned with stripes. Thick yellow stripes mean the creature is female, thinner purple stripes are a tell-tale sign of the spider being a male. The rest of the body is black, including it's shiny eight black eyes and sharp mandibles. The front pair of "legs" are more arm-like in nature, and are sometimes to used in conjunction with it's silk creation to create specific more complicated objects
The species is also capable of creating webbing, although in most cases the spider silk is easily breakable. However some members of the species learn to concentrate their abilities and can imprison targets inside a silk cocoon as hard as Stone

The screen also displays two images of the creatures. One you recognise as the particular specimen you captured, the other is very slightly different and shows a typical member of the species. Added to this image is the outline of a trainer in the background for purposes of scale.

[ooc: rarity scale works in general from one to five yellow stars indicating how common it is. The more stars the rarer the creature. Some creatures have five black stars indicating that there are no records of a member being caught before. A brand new species which has never been sighted or caught before, will clearly have no record. But if a member of that species is found and captured then the rarity rating will simply display "NEW!", after such an event arrangements are usually made for the trainer to attend a research centre so that data about the creature can be filled in]

"Blue Rhapsody?" Robyn says, interested, and peers a bit closer towards the transfer unit, "Does that mean you want to be a musician?" she asks the younger boy who is trading his Ebil.

The boy smiles up at Robyn,
"Noooo. Blue Rhapsody is the ice evolution of the note. It's a species which can evolve into lots of different creatures, and all of the creatures have musical names. I think it's because you can hear music if you listen really careful while one is nearby"

Winces as she is struck by the brightly coloured furnishings in the UmbCentre, Amicula stops to take in the ambiance of it.

"The things a girl will do for a little power."

Wondering over to peer at the vending machines, Amicula briefly considers buying something to wash down the taste of the vender’s food - it hadn't been that bad, but something sweet to finish it off would be nice.

Deciding to save her money, she continues to wonder along, and ends up standing behind Sean as he is at the identification databank.

"Is that what hurt Kito?" She asks, peering over his shoulder and looking interested.

"Ohhhh, hehe... sorry, I totally didn't know that," Robyn says, flashing a grin, "I'm still kinda new at recognizing all the 'mon... I've lived in Novtopia since I was a kid. Water types are my specialty, so I'd definitely be able to tell you about Blue Rhapsody's cousin, Aqua Descant... Hehe... I can tell you from personal experience that Aqua seemingly do sing. Legend in Novtopia states that the Sirenes of legend were based off of them, luring sailors to their doom."

Sean gathers the token from the machine before turning to Amicula. "Yeah. Its got a mean bite to it. It wouldn't let go until Kito and I nearly cracked its jaw open. I'm trying to decide whether I want to attempt to bond it."

The boy nods,
"Aqua Descant are hard to find, and trying to make a note evolve in to exactly what you want is even harder. The three most common evolutions are the ice one, Blue Rhapsody, the fire one Red Nocturne and the thunder oneYellow Opera. Green Requiems are harder to find, as they only seem to appear in big swarms of notes and they try and avoid combat. Everyone talks about how rare the Black Ballade is, but I don't think it's real, I've never even seen a picture of one or heard that anyone had caught one ... If it is real though, I'll be the one to catch it."

"Oooooooh, you sound really adventuresome! I'll look for your name in the Jalis Times one day!" Robyn says, "Hey, you think after the trade's complete, we could all let our 'mon out to play with each other? Let them get a bit of friendly exercise?"

"Well if it nearly took Kito out, then it must be fairly strong."

Smile and motioning over her shoulder to the trading machine that Robyn is standing at, Amicula continues.

"It's also not like a bonding has to be permanent, but I do understand the reluctance. It would have to be a special 'mon that I would consider using with Lio."

With a vague gesture from her gloved hand, the afore mentioned Doll-like-monster materialises on the girls shoulder, in a small blaze of red light.

The boy curiously asks,
"What monsters do you have?"

"Tipper is my only 'mon at the moment, she's a Hydrotort, and really good. I didn't train her very much for combat, but she's still good at it."

Sean nods as Amicula speaks. "I think I know what you mean. I'm not sure this creature fits the way I like to fight, but it did teach me some new things. I think I'll keep it. Do you think it would be better to attempt the bonding before or after it's healed?"

[BigRedRod]

The boy nods, he seems to quite enjoy having the full undivided attention of Robyn,
"When this stops we'll do that ... so what do you collect? or ... err, you know what I mean"
He scratches his head and finally just smiles rather than continuing to trip over words

"I'm going to collect and breed water 'mon. I just love the ocean, and all the 'mon that reside inside it. There's just something about the sea that calls to me, you know?"

[itches]

"I don't think it really matters," Amicula answers nonchalantly.

"If you're going to do anything, have it healed before you attempt to bond it would probably be a good idea - in the off chance that something goes wrong."

[tyckspoon]

"That might be right. Better safe and all that.." Sean heads back to the desk and begins having the Arachmon run through the healing machine. "I wonder if this monster could be trained to any fighting style? Might be suited to wrestling."

Amicula shrugs as she follows along behind Sean looking around the room again for anything that catches her interest.

"I wouldn't know. Fighting isn't exactly my speciality."

"Everyone should know at least a little about fighting..especially now that we're supposed to be employed to do it for someone." Sean gathers the healed token and heads for the bonding machines. He sits down at one of them and starts the procedure. As the machine heads into the main part of the bonding, he calms his mind against whatever pain might happen.

The machine doesn't Sean, he just feels the machine clamp on his arm and glove and then slowly he feels what he did when bonding with Kito. Sean can feel the arachmon probing him, the experience is very different, Sean can feel the anger of the creature at being attacked, but at the same time it is curious of the life Sean can offer. After a short period Sean feels an odd surge of emotion through him and then there is a clank and his arm is released

A black token with a yellow spiral running toward the centre is sitting in the tray at the bottom of the machine. Before sean can touch it the door flies open and Will comes running in,
"Quickly, Quickly, Quickly"
He runs directly the desk, the girl takes his token and places it i nthe machine to be healed, she doesn't act any different despite how anxious Will look. He pushes his arms on the counter so he can get a better look at the machine and stares directly at it as it begins it's task

Sean slots the Arachmon into the glove, in the same spot the token that captured it originally was. Hmm..that wasn't too bad, but bonding could get bad..wonder what'd happen if this mon decided it wanted to hurt me? ...oh, crap, now I've got to name it. He heads over to William and taps him on the shoulder. "Infini got beat? Don't worry, they..er, the machine, does good work. I bought Kito in with deep bites, and there's not even a scar now."

Watching as Will rushes,Amicula half smirks. Reaching out with her mind, she contacts Roybn.

Will's back from the battle, and I think he lost.

Robyn jerks her head back from the conversation with the boy, her eyes searching out Ami among the crowd. Spotting her girlfriend, she looks back over at the boy and apologizes, "Sorry, I gotta split for a moment... looks like my friend didn't have too good a fight just a while ago."

Sheepishly grinning and waving goodbye to the boy, she trots over to where Ami stands, and rests her hands on Ami's shoulder, "What happened?" she asks both Ami and Will.

Will look straight ahead as he speaks, his reply is simple but clearly very difficult for him to say,
"I lost"

Robyn's face turns downwards when she hears the regret in Will's voice, "h no!" she moans, "That's horrible!" Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she gives Will a sympathetic hug, "But don't worry... it was just a first step... think of it as a learning experience. You probably saw a lot of good tactics and a very, very strong bond between the other 'mon and its trainer. Just remember at your next battle, what the other trainer did differently from you, and use those choices for your own instead. You want something to drink? There's a Slurm machine in the back..."

Will sighs and looks down toward the ground "Yeah i guess when you put it like that" he says as he shakes his head "but I doubt Infini will see it like that, he took quite a kicking... Thanks anyway" Will breaks a barely discernable smile.

"Well, Infini was doing his best as well... but he unfortunately had to learn the hard way that there are still bigger fish in the sea. But one day, one day, Will... Infini will be the Whalsark in that sea. Just keep reinforcing the fact that while he may not have won the match, he is still important and the best 'mon in your eyes."

"Besides," Amicular adds in. "That was your frist real trainer battle. You are now up with experience"

"thanks guys Infini will understand... hopefully, speaking of drinks I am pretty thirsty. I might get some of that Slurm-Red" will's smile becomes slightly more pronounced and he wanders over to the slurm machine. A bottle pops out and he takes a sip and shudders. "Quite an... interesting flavour kind of like... a mixture of coffee and... fish". He offers it round.

"Hate coffee, I'll pass. If you like that, try the yellow. That one's a lot closer to chicken stock with soy." Sean finds a table to sit at. "Now that we've found each other again..anyone figured out where we stay until the tournament?"

Shuddering silently at the thought of fish and coffee taste in one, Amicular sits at the tables and listens to the suggestions.

"The hotel will be fine. Come; the sooner we are out of this place and into less garish surroundings, the better."

Getting up and leading the way over to the Hotel, Amicular books 2 rooms.

The hotel had few rooms remaining, but Amicula manages to find two that will suit the team, tragically at each end of the hotel. Little of event occurs that evening.

Team GLAM stand before the setting for the tournament. The three battle fields are covered in the tournament crew, mostly teens dressed in the black and red jackets and trousers that set them aside from the trainers and spectators.
The market at the edge of the arena is now set up, hundreds of people are milling around buying over-priced food and random novelties, although there also seem to be some stand aimed at trainers, selling tokens, monster capture devices and all kinds of other useful gizmos.

The registration stand has no queue, two staff members both with id cards around their necks man the stall. The older of the two, a man of around twenty nods at the team,
"Scan your palms and then you can get the badges that'll let you in the trainer-tent. Free food and drinks, Nuke-a-cola have gone all out this year. There are boards inside too with who is fighting who."
The second member of staff is nowhere near as enthused about the day, she blankly scans the plams of the trainers approaching her and hands out the badges.
As team GLAM approach to be scanned, the man continues to talk,
"Any questions? Nervous? Excited? Done much battling? I love these things."

"how many rounds are there?"

As Will scans his hand the man looks at the screen of his laptop,
"Team GLAM, cool name. Rounds? We've had eight teams, so that's three rounds."
With the team checked in he hands everyone a small brass badge in the shape of a bottle of Nuke-a-cola, it has some engraving on the back,

"Keep those on at all times, it lets us know who is competing. They stop you eating the free food if you stop wearing it."
Smiling, he waves you toward the tent and deals with the team next in line.

The way toward the central tent is quite busy, trainers and staff rush back and forth. Two very large men in long leather jackets stand at the entrance to the tent, they glance at each person passing through.

The tent interior is shockingly sophisticated, or at least what you can see of it without going in is, stools and small tables cover most of the ground (the ground being covered by a gaudy red and balck ground sheet with a gargantuan bottle of nuke-a-ola in the centre), the far wall is covered in banks of large LCD screens. Three show the battle fields at fixed angles, the fields are currently still covered in staff. Another flicks every minute or so between random points in the crowd (at the moment it's fairly empty). Of the remaining three the first shows the team brackets, the second is currently switched off, and the third contains the long list of solo entries and their matchings. You can clearly make out the team brackets even from outside,

There is also a large table which contains a large variety of various snack foods, and a number of drink dispensors surrounded by polystyrene Nuke-a-cola cups. They seem to have the whole collection of Nuke-a-cola brand drinks such as Nuke-a-cola, Nuke-a-cola lite, Fizzle, Wartah, Zoop and all the other usual suspects.

The tent is filling up quickly, but there don't seem to be any pressing directions, the battles themselves don't start for just under half an hour.

Sean beelines to the food and gathers together a plate of assorted sugar and chocolate-based snacks, then blends a drink of anything that isn't diet. He stops for a moment to let Kito out, then gestures to the food. "Eat what you like, but mind your manners."

Robyn has already let Tipper out before she's even entered the tent, and, with the Hydrotort perched on her shoulder, begins making the rounds throughout the tent, picking up a light assortment of veggies, fruits, and bottled water for both Tipper and herself. Finding a stool, she sits down and waits for the rest of the group to finish getting their snacks.

Will wanders over to the snacks and just picks out a pair of apples before sitting down, he Lets Infini out and gives him the apple both sit and eat. Infini doesn't seem angry with me for losing yesterday... But i won't let it happen again, we're done losing. he smiles and sits there thinking to himself and taliking to infini.

"Looks like Infini's in a good mood, Will," Robyn says as Will and Infini settle down beside her, "I'm guessing the talk helped?"

"Yeah we're both better for it. Infini and I are just getting phyched to go in there and show what we can do. Hows everyone else feeling?" Infini starts doing push ups.

The previously blank screen suddenly fills with life before anyone can address Will's question. It displays a faint outline of the arrangement of battlefields, each lettered.

The text over Battlefield C is what attracts the attention of team GLAM.

Team GLAM vs Team Orion

In the centre of the screen huge yellow letters slwoly count the seconds as time floats away. There is still almost half an hour before Team GLAM's first battle commences. The tent is hushed to silence for a moment as the trainers study the screen and then the noises of excitement triple.
This year it seems the tournament is opened at 11:00am by a solo battle, and a new battle would appear to begin every five minutes.

Will looks around to see if there are any obvious members of team Orion and what monsters they have.

It's fairly clear who team Orion are, the trainers on the table next to you all wear black and red badges which proudly proclaim them to be "Orion" and are excitedly discussing the time left before the battle. None have their monsters on show.

The team has four members. Three girls and one quite well built young man who towers over them. The oldest of the girls has short blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes, she looks to be around the same age as the male member of the team, maybe sixteen years old. The older looking of the younger girls has long blonde hair with a red streak and wears almost all red, her monster-capture glove is very sleek and decorated with a firey pattern, she looks to be around twelve or thirteen, the last girl has big round glasses and long dark hair, she hardly speaks amind the noise her team make, she looks to be roughly the same edge as the girl clad in red physically, but her apparant shyness shaves off years

Robyn casts a glance at the male trainer and his three female companions. Glancing over to Amicula, Robyn remarks, "Who wants to bet that those chicas are there to support the guy? He looks like he's a bit more than sure enough of himself, anyway."

Sean gives yet another no-care shrug. "They got the gloves, they're trainers." Then he grins in a manner best fitted to a predatory animal. "I think you're right about the guy, though. I wouldn't mind taking him down."

"I think we can pretty safely assume that the one in red with the red streak and the firey glove likes fire... and therefore probably trains fire critters. The guy looks pretty buff so i'll asume he's a fighter type trainer, no idea about the blonde, then other one looks pretty reclusive; and may i hazard deep, maybe psychic." Will says confidently "any one wanna place any bets?" he adds jokingly.

The sixteen year old with short blonde hait and sparkling blue eyes twirls around to face Will with a broad smile,
"Didn't your Mother ever tell you it's rude to talk about people behind their backs? ... especially when they can hear you."
She punchs her well built friend playfully on the arm,
"You hear that Xan? They think you're the leader and we're your groupies."
The remaining three turn to face to team GLAM. The blue eyed girl sticks out a hand toward Will,
"I'm Zoe, and I'm the leader of team Orion. The man of the group is Xander. The shy one is Lizzy and Scarlet's the pyromaniac. I assume you're team GLAM then, nervous? You should be"
Zoe bursts into a short fit of playful laughter and regards team GLAM with her head to one side

Will sighs at such a cliche ending to her little speach and says "we're team GLAM. I am William, these are Sean, Robyn, and Amicular. We don't adhere to such a primative concept as a leader... ... Nice to meet you." Will says without breaking his look of impassiveness.

Blondes! so very very dizzy... wonder if i can get a phone number

Robyn's face starts to contort into a smile of laughter, but catches herself and just makes it look like she is eager to battle. No sense making someone get upset at your mocking of their style.

"So, where are y'all from?"

Zoe smiles again as Robyn speaks, in reply she speaks in very good, but heavily accented, Novtopian back to Robyn,
"You're from around Novburg, right? A bit of a way to come just for a little tournament like this. We're all from hear abouts, known each other for ages, Lizzy's actually my baby sis. You all from up there?"
From the expressions on the faces of Xandar, Scarlet and Lizzy, clearly none of them speak Novtopian, or at least not well enough to follow exactly what is being said

"Naw, we're all from Southmead, actually, that's where we met up," Robyn replies in Novtopian, glad to actually be speaking her native language again, "There was a 'mon club forming, and, we chose to create our own mini-team for it. While Amicula and I are the eldest, we don't call the shots. It's more of a democracy," Robyn says with a grin.

Zoe nods and replies, still in Robyn's native language,
"It's nice to be on friendly terms with the other teams. But we'd never get anywhere if one of us didn't lead, and well ... I do it best. Something I need to ask, are you that confident that you are showing your monsters now? Or did you just overlook that everyone else is hoping to use suprise. I don't mean to be rude, I'm just curious"
Zoe sweeps an arm around the room. She's right, besides the monsters of team GLAM, there are no other monster visible in the tent

Xander shrugs as Robyn and Zoe go off to their own little world,
"Well , I don't know about you. But I'm not following a word of that, I just used to read comics in Novtop class..."
He looks slightly embarassed that he has already broken his "cool" demeanor by admitting to reading comics. Scarlet smiles as he does so, and Lizzy remains just looking shy

Making her way through the tent, slightly groggy due to lack of morning coffee, Amicular settles on some water, and random pastry items that seem to contain some sort of meat.

Chewing idly on the food as the conversation turns to their immediate competitors, Amicular contemplates the younger one.

Psychic … hmm. She certainly seems reclusive, and goodness knows, I’m the same way. But it’s no sure indication, just have to wait until the battle.

“They’re just posturing,” Amicular says Xander. “Don’t worry, it’s nothing ground breaking.”

“And we still have a few surprises,” Amicular says switching to Novtopian, indicating her monster still safely inside her glove.

Picking up her now empty plate, and getting up, Amicula motions with her head towards the food table.

”I’m going to get some more food,” she says to the two groups, once again in Jalian. “Anyone want to come with?”

Will look up "Yeah ok then nothing can't battle without a full stomach!" and wanders over to the food table.

Sean continues to overdose on sugarsnaks, nearly totally ignoring the conversation with Orion except to wonder what the Novtopian speakers are saying. Kito eats in a much more restrained fashion, putting together a light meal that is nutritionally healthy.

It isn't long before a voice announces to all spectators and trainers that the first of the battles is commencing at field A. A trainer named Jack Monroe fighting a name you didn't quite catch. Time races by and another announcement directs trainers to field B. With each announcement the tent fills with a flurry of activity and it hasn't died down before there is announcement that Team GLAM and team Orion should meet at field C for the 11:10 opening battle.
Xander glances at his watch,
"Not even five past. Ah well."
He forces the last of his small meaty snacks into his mouth and stands up. His team follow and head toward the field.

[ooc: you are on field C. Which is the recreation of a rocky plain. I'll leave you to anything last minute and then we can get it on]

Sean bounces to his feet with his entire body almost visibly vibrating from a combination of sugar and excitement. "Come on, we have a fight to win!" He rushes out of the tent to the field, expecting that the rest of the team will manage to get there in their own time. Kito follows at a much more controlled pace.

The flat-ish expanse of rubble stands between the two teams. Between both teams by just at the side of the battle-arena stands a man dressed in the long high-collared black leather-jacket of a referee.
He grips a radio-microphone in one hand and speaks,
"Round One : Team GLAM vs Team Orion. You are no doubt both well aware of the rules, one monster, no switching, all members will be taking part"

Scarlet waves mockingly at Will

Xander adjusts his chunky tan glove, and inserts a token

A small crowd has started to gather on the steps nearest the arena. One or two are even stood close by, ready to start cheering

A sudden surge of activity whips through the arena as the monsters are unleashed.

Before Zoe stands a cute white and purple ferret-type creature. Will recognises the creature as a Furrate, a creature popular with girls but usually overlooked by serious trainers.

A little bluish-black winged creature flaps before Xander. Whether it is cute or incredibly disturbing in appearance is up for debate, but Will recognises it as an Imp, a species known for their illusions and difficulty to be trained
[Dark]

The shy girl, Lizzy, let's out a six-legged silver orange cheetah. It's fur crackles with electricty, and it gives a brief distinctive roar. It is clear to Will that this creature is an Agovo

The final member of team Orion is Scarlet, her monster looks for all the world like a solid ball of flame with tiny little arms and huge eyes. Will recognises the creature to be a bomb.

With a sudden burst of speed to be expected from the Agovo species Lizzy's creature rushes toward Lio and rakes with it's powerful claws. Lio attempts to dodge, but fails

Infini should have an advantage over that furrate got to do this systematically. Will raises himself up and shouts "Infini charge the furrate and try to get a bite on it!"

The small angular runic bug-creature dashes towards the furrate and lashes out with it's mandibles. The furrate goes to dodge but fails and results with Infini's bug-like jaws locked onto the poor animal.

"Ateya! Get out of there! Confusion on the Kihare"
Despite the pain which no doubt racks the body of the furrate it struggles free from the jaws of the Trian, pushing it to the ground as it does so. Before the opponent can react, the furrate is dashing across the field, it's eyes glowing a golden colour. Kito finds itself unable to look away

"You know what to do Gulf"
Scarlet smiles and she speaks and her Bomb glides across the field towards Ifini, it slashes with it's claws but the Trian manages to roll out of the way and return to an upright position. Scarelt scowls as the bomb misses it's target

Wincing as the Agovo's claws rake across Lio, Amicular pulls out her P.D.A. and quickly taking in what is happening on the battlefield, as she scans the creature.

Look towards where you can be of the most help Amicula. Which I think would be ...

Reaching out with her mind, her glowing eyes safely hidden behind her shades, she touches Lio's mind.

Try to put some distance between yourself and the cat, but attack that fireball!

Lio drifts backwards away from the Agovo, with her mind she grasps at a loose small stone and hurls it toward the bomb. The stone goes far too high and lands just off the side of the arena. The referee glares a caution at Amicula.

With his PDA in one hand, Xander shouts to his Imp,
"Lex, gang up with Gulf!"
The tiny creature glides through the air with it's claws beared and rakes at Infini. The train raises an arm protectively but the imp still scores a solid blow, leaving visible scratches on the black and purple skin.
[ooc: 3 damage to infini, who is now being double teamed by a bomb and an imp]

Robyn looks over at the chaos that surrounds the arena, and motions towards Infini.

"Tipper, use your bite attack on that fire thing! You shouldn't have too much a problem with it!" she shouts, and glares angrily at Team Orion.

Dashing with suprising speed the hydrotort crosses the uneven rocky ground and snaps fiercly at the bomb floating a above the ground. The sharp beak of Tipper catches hold of the solidifed flame and squeezes down. The bomb flails it's arms in pain but Tipper refuses to release it's grip

"Kito! Wake up! Help out Infini. Go for the ...demon thing." Sean stands at the edge of the arena wanting to go in and shake Kito back to action, but the tournament's rules force him to stay on the sideline.

Kito takes a step towards the imp attacking Infini, after a momentary pause it instead chooses to sit down and stare at the furrate a foot or so away. As adorable as the Kihare looks sat on the ground with a bewildered expression it does little to aid the battle

[ooc: I'm ruling 10 rounds for buff/debuff effects. Boosting healing potion power and adding a new piece of equipment to remove debuffs. I'll doa post about it soon]

Lizzy says nothing to the Agovo, allowing it to peruse it's course of attack on Lio. It pounces towards the flying doll, which anticpiates the move and shifts slightly in the air. The pouncing creature rakes at empty air and lands in a heap on the rocky ground, in a flash it is back on it's feet. The trainer winces and shouts as loud as she can in a shrill voice,
"It's ok Lekton! Get it next time, you can do it!"

Will feels powerless to stop the harrasement aimed at Infini taken aback by the aggression for a moment before shouting
"Infini Go for the Imp Try and get a grip on it in your mouth!"

Infini leaps towards the tiny hovering form of the imp and catches it in his jaws, the imp squelas in agony as the mandibles crush down. Xander takes a half step forward, realising the watchful eye of the referee is upon him to make sure he doesn't enter the battle-field, he stops short of the line.

"Ateya! Leave it, go for that"
Zoe points directly toward Lio, and the furrate races toward it. The doll lurches sideways in mid-air suddenly and avoids the pounce of Zoe's monster

Scarlet remains silent, and her bomb continues it's assault on Will's Trian. It's dodging hampering by it's grip on the imp, the bomb makes a series of successful rakes across Infini

Robyn's eyes lock with Amicula's, and Robyn sees the desperation that races past the violet eyes of the other girl. Nodding slightly, she immediately turns back to regard the huge battle before her.

"Tipper! Drop the bomb, and concentrate on that purple ferret thingy! Don't let Lio get hurt, be her guard!"

Sean surveys the field for a moment before deciding where to attempt to send Kito. "Kito! Doubleteam with Tipper. Don't give that freak ferret a chance to get anyone else."

The bomb lurches forwards as Tipper suddenly releases her grib and charges off toward the furrate, which clearly doesn't notice the extra opponent arriving as it focuses entirely on it's own battle. Tipper bites the furrate, crushing the smaller creature in it's powerful snapping jaw.

The world races around Kito, colours streaming and spiraling in a hypnotic fashion but a for a moment Sean's voice breaks through, and Kito can see the creature which invaded his mind. With single-minded determination Kito sets off at the best run he can manage and slides into the furrate, twitsing it painfully while it remains locked in Tipper's jaw.

With the focus of attention on the two creatures assaulting the furrate, the electric creature pounces again at the hovering doll. Lio is raked by the glittering claws, and Amicula feels her pain.

Infini maintains his powerful grip on the tiny struggling figure, but with a sudden twist, the imp drops to the ground. It's tiny body spasms and then lies still. The referee waves his arms in the air,
"Xander has been removed from this round with a KO to his monster!"

As the battle intensifies more people seem to have emerged to watch, some cheer as the referee declares the imp down.

Zoe looks pained as one of her team-mates is defeated,
"Fight back!"
The furrate snarls and snaps and manages to escape the powerful vice of Tipper's jaw

Scarlet smirks at Xander and shouts,
"Keep it out. Aim for the head!"
The bomb rakes at Infini once again, this time managing to land a blow on the area of weakest armour

Lio skims another rock from the ground and toward the bomb as she floats away from the Agovo. The rock strikes the creature directly between it's large eyes and it screeches in pain. Scarlet looks at her team mates and her smirk fades as she realises the battle will not be as easy as she thought.

Robyn gasps as the Furrate gets out of Tipper's grip, and clenches her fist.

"Tipper! Keep on that 'mon, and don't let it get near Lio! You've got Lio's back, do your best!"

As Tipper charges at the Furrate again, Sean pauses to take stock of the field for another time. Noticing Lio's buffeted state and the lack of opposition for the Agovo trying to down Lio, he decides to intercept with Kito. Pointing at the Agovo, he calls out "Kito, slow it down. Leglock."

[BigRedRod]

The furrate is not so easily caught again and withdraws backwards for a moment and then leaps over Tipper as the Hydrotort charges with it's snapping jaws.

Dashing across the field the Kihare drops to the ground and deliverers a sweeping tackle to the Agovo that after the dust has settled, ends with both creatures on the ground and the Kihare somehow maintaing a hold on the six-legged opponent

Lizzy jumps up and down briefly,
"Get up Lekton, get that rabbit off you!"
Her agovo struggles for a moment but can't find any position giving enough leverage to prize the kihare off

With the imp defated, Will stands beaming, as his monster turns to engage the bomb. The trian pushes off on one leg and catches the bomb with a crippling bite to it's left arm. The creature howls in agony of begins to shudder in a seemingly uncontrolled manner

Zoe looks in shock at her companions monster,
"ATEYA! RUN! LEAVE THE HYDROTORT! RUN!"
The furrate dashes away from it's opponent, retreating to near the edge of the field where her master stands

Scarlet looks in fury at Will,
"Do it!"
The bomb doesn't even seem to acknowledge her words, it's body continues to shudder with growing strength. Infini maintains his grip on the arm of the creature for a moment but finds himself unable to maintan the hold as the bomb begins to shrink. It's eyes full of rage and pain as it's body compressed down to a small sphere about the size of a tennis ball. For a moment there is silence and then a blinding flash of light as the sphere explodes into an inferno.

When normal vision returns the battlefield is a changed place, a deep crater surrounds where the bomb had been floating. The uneven rocky field seems to have supressed the size of the explosion, but the devastation is still severe. A tiny yellow flame hovers at the centre of the crater, infini lies with pieces of flaming rubble scattered across him at the edge of the impact. Tipper re-appears out of her shell, her shell charred but still intact, burns cover most of her skin. The Kihare and Agovo are buried under a scattering of loose earth while Lio floats in the air unscathed amidst a field of burning rubble.
[ooc: no damage to Lio, the Agovo, Furrate or Kito. Tipper took 20]

The referee waves his arms once more,
"Will and Scarlet have been removed from this round by a self-destruction!"
The crowd cheers as they see the devastation caused by Scarlets monster

Shocked by the devastation wrought by the explosion, Amicular almost forgets to act. Recovering in time, she tracks the furrate with her PDA.

The floating doll her attention to the furrate and hurls a piece of flaming rubble. The passage of air extinguishes the flames as it soars across the field, the furrate attempt to dodge but recats a fraction of a second too slowly and recieves the full force of the lump of rock. The furrate lies close to the ground breathing heavily, clearly clinging to conciousness

Robyn's eyes go wide at the explosion that rips across the playing field. Watching helplessly as Tipper goes flying through the blastwave, her eyes cloud with tears, and she starts towards the field. However, just as she's about to cross the line separating the trainers from their 'mon, Robyn realizes what she's about to do, and rocks backwards onto the balls of her feet.

Her mind races about what her course of action should be. There were too many options, but she had to do something.

"Tipper," she says, looking at her battered Hydrotort, "We need to level the playing field... push the Furrate out of the ring! It doesn't need to be injured anymore!"

Sean nods as Robyn orders Tipper to finish the Furrate in the most humane available way, then turns his attention back to Kito and the Agovo. "Secure the pin! If that thing gets away from you, we're both on half-rations tonight and extra training tonight." The Kihare gives a brief nod and attempts to fully immobilize the Agovo's rear and middle pairs of legs, trusting that it won't be left with enough movement to break the hold with only the front legs.

Tipper revcovers it's composure and charges toward the furrate aiming to plough into the ground beneath it and catapult the target over the line and outside the ring. The clumsy attack is easily dodged by the far more agile ferret-creature, even in it's weakened state.

Possibly it was dust from the explosion irritating the Kihare's eyes but despite Kito's scrambling he's unable to increase his hold to a full lock-down and simply sends up a few clouds of dust as the two creatures wrestle.

Lizzy opens her mouth to speah but remains silent as she stares in horror at the damage and then to her companion, Scarlet, who laughs at the destruction wrought. Lekton, her companion scrabbles furiously to break free of the hold and rakes the Kihare with it's sharp claws, the blow connects but is not powerful enough to disrupt it's captor.

"Dammit Scarlet! You nearly caught Ateya with that one."
Turning her attention to her monster Zoe twists open the spherical container recognised by most trainers as a healing potion. With a flick the sparkling blue goo flies a few feet into the air and then speeds up splattering onto her monster and sinking through it's fur-covered hide.
As the potion restores the furrate it darts at Tipper, delivering a powerful blow with all it's body on one of the Hydrotort's exposed legs

Gritting her teeth as the furrate dodges Tripper's attack, and then gets healed Amicular glares at the offending monster.

They just refuse to go down easily, don't they? Come-on Lio, hit it again. This is starting to become irritating.

Robyn glares as the other trainer uses a potion on the Furrate, and grits her teeth.

I wish I had one of those... Tipper looks much too injured on the field... I don't want her to get knocked out! Robyn thinks to herself, then looks over at Ami, who is also trying to take out the Furrate.

"Tipper, it looks like that Furrate is going to keep going for quite a bit of time! Give it another bite!"

Another piece of rubble flies across the battlefield, but the rejuvenated Furrate easily dodges the attack but fails to pay attention to the hydrotort which lurches forwards and grips the furrate in it's powerful jaws. Shaking it's head from side to side it presses down harder on the furrate until eventually it ceases to struggle and flops onto the ground.

A cheer goes up from the crowd and the referee speaks up,
"Zoe has been removed from the round with a KO to her monster! Lizzy is the final remaining member of Team Orion!"

The Kihare digs its paws into the Agovo's fur for a better grip and sets its feet on either side of one of the Agovo's leg, then presses in on the leg, attempting to twist the Agovo's leg. Sean watches calmly, knowing the experience will be painful for the opposing 'mon but not really caring what happens to it now.

Kito twists the rear leg of the Agovo. It's fur sparks and the creature howls in pain but is unable to free itself from the secure pin,

Lio hurls a stone from the battlefield towards the wrestling forms of Kito and the Agovo. A sudden shift in their positions leaves the stone impacting heavily on Kito's arm. The crowd waits in silence to see Sean's response

Robyn gives Ami a look of utter horror as the rock impacts Kito, upset that Ami would hit a teammate's 'mon, even if it was in the thick of combat.

Biting her lip to keep from shouting out at Ami her disappointment, Robyn feels the warm taste of a trickle of blood slowly welling near her tongue.

Opening her mouth, she hides the self-inflicted injury, and gives Tipper another command, "Thanks for finally outing it, gal! Now go over there and help Kito doubleteam that 'mon! If you can, try and keep it from moving as much as possible!"

Tipper bounds across the rubble-strewn crater that was formly a battlefield and bites the agovo. It's body shudders and discharges dancing bolts of electricty into the air, the ground, Kito and Tipper. The electricty does little more than cause a tingle in the pair of monsters, but the final hope of Team Orion falls flat to the ground exhausted.
The referee raises both of his arms,
"Lizzy has been removed with a KO to her monster"
He points his left arm towards Team GLAM,
"Team GLAM win the round. Team Orion have been eliminated."
The crowd cheers

The opposing team rush onto the field and after ensuring their monsters aren't too badly hurt they seal them in their tokens. Lizzy has tears welling up behind her glasses and Scarlet doesn't even look at Team GLAM, recovering her monster and marching away towards the tent. Xander stands behind Zoe, she manages a smile,
"Good battle. We'll beat you next time though."
With that, she turns to Lizzy. Xander steps forward and hugs her and whispers something and the trio set off after Scarlet and back towards the tent

Sean stops to pick up the rock on his way to gather Kito, and gently lobs it in Lio's general direction. "Work on her aim, Amicula." Kito doesn't seem nearly so forgiving, as the mon gives Lio and Ami equal time in a stare, his ears pulled back and teeth, such as he has, bared. Just before he is pulled into the token, his paws manage to do a credible imitation of flipping off Lio and her trainer.

Hovering away from the thrown rock and towards Ami, Lio stares back as Kito snarls and attempts to flip them off, smirking.

Giving a slight nod to Sean, Ami looks towards the defeated team.

"Not too bad for our first team battle," her smirk almost a smile. Moving over she quickly leans over and gives Robyn a kiss before the other girl can react. Tasting the blood on the others mouth, Ami pulls back in alarm, her smirk melting away to reveal genuine concern.

"Robyn, you're bleeding! What happened? Are you alright?"

"I... I'm fine... just a scrape from some of that blast, I think," Robyn says, loud enough for the rest of the team to hear, but then leans close back in to Ami after the announcement, and whispers "We need to talk." into Ami's ear.

Robyn can't help but feeling upset at Ami's lack of concern for hitting Kito in the midst of battle. Although they needed to defeat the other team, Ami shouldn't have ignored her own teammate's plight to try and succeed.

Taking a kleenex out of her purse, she dabs at her bloody mouth, and then tosses the used tissue.

"That was a good game, guys... totally didn't see that bomb coming! I would have hoped Scarlet would have treated it better, but it looks like she just saw its explosive technique as another tool, rather than a disadvantage she should have worked towards preventing. It really hurts a 'mon when something like that happens to it. Sometimes, they never recover, too."

Not quite ready to believe her comment about the blast, and frowning at her last whispered comment, Amicular resists the temptation to contact her mind. Instead she nods to Robyn’s comment about the bomb and tries to think up a way to re-gain her good graces.

"Well maybe we will be able to check up on them later," Amicular says after a moment with a shrug. "See if the monsters are alright after the battle."

Sean moves back to the two girls just in time to clearly hear Ami's last words. "Wouldn't it be better if we first cared for our own? This is a tournament, after all, and there's more battles to be fought..We'll probably see Orion again while we have our monsters healed, anyway."

Looking closely at Lio as the monster hovers close by, Ami nods.

"You're right we didn't exactly come through unscathed ourselves." She says as she gently rests the doll on her shoulder. "They all look fairly hurt, we had better go make sure they are healed."

Deciding that her agreeing was agreement enough, Amicular leads the way 5to the nearest UmbCentre.

As team GLAM re-enter the tent they get a few looks. Clearly teams which had previously dismissed them are now sizing them up. A blonde girl of about eighteen with a smile broad enough to only be measured in astronomical units stands directly in front of the team as they enter,
"Well done!"
Closer inspection reveals she's wearing a tournament staff jacket
"Totally great match, shame about the friendly fire but you'll get better. Anyways, lemme sort out your mon."
She ushers the group over to a device similar to that seen in UmbCentres or MonCom Stations but rather smaller. With the tokens inserted she jumps back to conversation,
"Okay! This will take a while, we'll be good before the next match though. Go relax a bit!"

Team Orion sit in a quiter corner of the tent quietly chatting, while most others stare up at the screens. Only one battle is currently taking place, a solo match between a small green creature and a Vee. Will can't believe his eyes at the sight of the little green combatant.
[ooc : the green thing is a cactuar, a very rare monster.]

The team bracket screen display has updated from the first round results, it seems team GLAM were one of the last to finish their battle as the other results are already present. It seems there is going to be a break in the team battles until mid-day, although the solo battles will keep going.

"Ordos Faction? Sounds like an agent team that's not even bothering to hide, don't they?" Sean angles for a good view to one of the combat screens and settles down to watch the duel between humanoid cactus and Vee.

"Eh?" Robyn says with a start at the staff member as she takes Tipper's disc and puts it into the healing machine, "But I..."

Not even having a chance to finish her statement, she trails off, and looks over at the rest of the team.

"Ordos... maybe it's the name of a mon's different evolutions they all use together, kind of like that note kid we ran into a while back?" Robyn offers, shrugging her shoulders.

Will just stays quiet since Infini passed out he was slipping into the same kind of state he'd been in after he lost yesterday. them 2 me and infini 0. it just gets worse. He just sits playing woth the token in his hand, he doesn't have the heart to disturb Infini right now.

Watching as Lio is put back into her token, and taken to be healed, Ami represses the feeling of frustration that someone else must take care of it. In an attempt to put it from her mind she turns to her companions.

"All in all we did exceptionally well for our first team battle. We only had one loss," a small nod towards Will. "But that couldn't have been helped, and it did result in the bomb's removal from the match. It was frankly the turning point to us defiantly winning. However perhaps we should examine what it is that we did that gave us the edge. What actions turned us into the winning team, and how do we duplicate the results?"

I guess when it's put like that i didn't do that badly. didn't think anyone woulda had the kinda spit to blow up their own mon. Will visibly picks up and looks towards the others. He thinks about the fight for a moment and says "When we started to group up we became far more effective. Grouping all on one may leave us too inflexible and vulnerable to any blasts like that bomb. But if we pair up we'd hold that effectiveness and still be more flexible." Will looks about "What do you guys think?" he sinks back into silence.

"Pairing's good. We should work out our most effective teams. You know, make sure we don't put a pair together where both mon are weak to the same type, that sort of thing." Sean's contribution is a little hard to hear, as he is still paying more attention to the onscreen fight than he is to his team.

[itches]

Amicular nods.

"We should also try to remain flexible. During the battle, if one of our monsters' attacks are strong against the other's type, it should focus on attacking it. It should take out the opposing mon' much quicker then any other, and that would then give us the advantage of numbers."

"I did try having Tipper go after the bomb 'mon," Robyn says, still slightly irked at Ami's actions during the fight, "Unfortunately, Tipper doesn't know any water attacks quite yet, so she wasn't able to defeat it easily like she'll be able to."

"Another problem is that not all of us are as easily able to recognize the 'mon that we face in battle. If there was someway we could set it up so that way each team member identifies one or more 'mon, and then reports it to the rest, that would allow us to strategize a lot quicker."

"Oh! Does anyone know if we can get a replay of Ordos' battle? Or at least find some people who were watching it? That way we'd be able to know what we'll be going up against soon."

Hearing the 'irk' in Robyn's voice, and seeing that their next match is in half an hour, Amicular grabs Robyn's arm.

"Let's see if we can go find out," She says as she drags her off.

Once they are somewhere private, Ami lets go of the arm, and confronts her other-half.

"Okay, what's your problem?"

At this point Will realises he can resist the call of nature no longer, and that he's kinda hungry now the adrenaline from the battle has left his system and he dissapears to satisfy his urges. He returns a few minutes later with a plate laden with assorted junkfood and a slight look of relief sits next to Sean and begins shovelling sugary crap into his mouth. turns to Sean and offers a pack of crisps.

"Thanks." Sean rips open the foil and starts working his way through the crunchety-greasy snacks. "You're our stats man, right? What do you think the best pairings of our mon are? Lio and Tipper probably work well together 'cause Robin and Ami do, but I don't know how the types work there."

"Well at the minute it doesn't really matter that much. Together we've had one battle and none of our mon are really advanced enough to have any type attacks. At the mo our mon are pretty green like ourselves, the most advanced attack we have at the minute is probably Lio being able to move rocks which as you've seen isn't exacly one hundered percent accurate" Will moves on sharply having brought the subject up.

"At the minute we just have too look at what styles seem to work on the field, but in the long run Infini being a dark/bug is virtually immune to any pychic attacks. Kito is a fighter, he plans his moves ahead his thoughts skim on the surface of his mind so he'd be more succeptable to Lio's mind numbing attacks so type wise infini would be a good blocker to stop people getting at Lio as he's resistant to any effects." Will pauses for a crisp before saying.

" Tipper will eventually specialise in ranged water attacks while your Kito specialises up close and isn't badly effected if anything goes wrong with one of the ranged attacks so you and Robin would probably be a good match. She can hold things off you with her range while you attack a mon weaker up close before converging on the other, the old 'divide and conquer approach'."

"But that's just based on types and tactics, which are a big part, but trainer and mon preference come into it as well." He continues his systematic elimination of the remaining crisps.

"I don't know how to put this lightly, Ami, but what happened out there? There was a bit too much of an uncaring attitude about Lio hitting Kito with that rock. I have a sneaking suspicion you didn't care one way or the other if the other 'mon got hurt while you were trying to take out Orion."

Robyn taps her foot, giving Ami an apprehensive glare as if to say "I don't like saying this, but the issue has to be confronted". With her right hand she nervously strokes her left bicep, hoping that Ami wouldn't get too angry.

"I have a sneaking suspicion you didn't care one way or the other if the other 'mon got hurt while you were trying to take out Orion."

"Gee Robyn," Ami replies sarcastically. "You keep this up and people will start to think that you're the freak who can read minds instead of me. You're right, I didn't give a damn if the other 'mon got hurt. Nor should I."

Crossing her arms Amicular almost glares back at Robyn through her glasses.

"There is no issue to be confronted here. I know my life an

Will Looks over to the screen "who's winning?"

"Hard to say, neither of those 'mon are showing many-" Sean stops as the cactus's opponent recoils from the green figure's needles. "Nevermind. The green one's winning."

[elpresidente]

"Thats a nice Cacutar. The spines are cool, most mon would be reluctant to go near them let alone attack the cacutar because of the risk of harming itself." He points to the Cacutars opponent.
"Look at the scratches down it's arm from trying to block it. Their not particularly damaging but those scatches will sting making the enemy lose focus."
Will's Grin reaches from ear to ear. "I think i may have to catch one. If i can find one."

"You'll have to race me for it if we see one." Sean finishes off his pack of crisps, then crumples it up and tosses it on the floor after finding no easily reachable place to throw it away. "You know any good ways to tame down a wild 'mon? I want to work with the Arachmon I caught, and it'd be nice if I could at least be sure it wasn't going to try and take a bite of me."

"I dunno really. You have more experiance in that field than me as you've actually caught a wild mon." Will whinces slightly as the cacutar swipes it's opponent hard across the head. "I once heard that Animals of course don't think like us, while humans look to the next year and try to plan and control every event in their lives, other creatures are only worried about their next meal and being better off than before. That means that bribery works well as well as lots of attention, as well as I guess showing that your boss, the alpha etc."

It isn't long before Team G.L.A.M. is called to field A for the battle with the Ordos Faction. The team meet at the raised metal combat stage of field A, at the opposite end stand a pair of trainers dressed in identical uniforms. Each wears black combat trousers, a long sleeved t-shirt with green cuffs with a green sash across. The sash contains a thin line of deep purple down it's centre. Each also wears a pair of black goggles. The only difference is in height, the taller having black spiked hair, while his companion is a little shorter (and possibly younger) with blonde floppy hair.
The referee begins an annoucement as the trainers arrive at the field,
"Team G.L.A.M. must nominate two members to do battle. The remaining two must not leave the battle field during this round."
The crowd is hushed, waiting to see who is selected

Sean glances at the rest of his team before letting his gaze rest on Will. "Well, Mr. Strategy. Time to shine..who do we send in?"

"Survivability is high ranking So Tipper. Infini's Bite seem's effective and he can probably get a decent hold on someone, Lio will be vulnerable if Tipper is occupied. Kito would be useful but at the present time he's 'jack of all trades and master of none' so if they have a specialised mon he'd probably have a hard time. I'd say Tipper and Infini. Objections?"
Well Infini... Third time lucky.

"Ami! No! Oh gosh, my mouth started speaking before I even thought about it! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so conceited and angry!" Robyn exclaims, and slight traces of tears can be seen at the corners of her eyes, "Oh... jeez, no. I just meant that sometimes, winning isn't everything... and that the best way to make friends is to show that you care just as much as for them and their possessions as you would like them to care for yours. You know, that 'Golden Rule' thing: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' It's just that... I mean, Kito and Sean have an incredibly close bond... as close as family would be, it seems at times. While Sean might have seemed that Sean was pretty cool about it, there's subtle things you can catch between a trainer and their interaction with their 'mon. I know it sounds dorky, but there was a bit of upset trust right there that I picked up on. One thing you always need to be sure of it that you can trust your friends to have your back. I trust you, Ami, and I don't want to see anyone else lose that trust that they have for you, either."

Robyn lays her palms on Ami's shoulders and looks her straight in the eye, "The greatest thing in the world is to know that no matter what happens, no matter why, that your friends will always be there for you, completely willing to do whatever it takes to help you out. I'm willing to do that Ami, and I just want to let you know that."

Suddenly, a tone sounds throughout the stadium area, signifying 5 minutes until the next rounds start. Robyn looks up in confusion, then remembers what the sound stands for and looks nervously at Ami, "Shoot! We need to get to the arena or GLAM might be disqualified!"

Leading Ami back to the arena, Robyn does her best to hurry as quickly as possible, her cinnamon-brown ponytail bobbing with each step through the crowd. When the two get there, they find Sean and Will already having an in-depth conversation about the process for the match.

"Tipper'd definitely be a good choice for a long-lasting 'mon," Robyn says, nodding, "I definitely trained her for that... unfortunately, her attacks aren't that strong in comparison. Tipper would do well to distract an enemy so someone else could get the hit in on the opponent... but I'm open to whatever anyone else has to say."

Will smiles "Well thats our anvil sorted now we just need our hammer. Infini's up to the job unless anyone else wants the job?"

"Infini's probably best. I know you've been getting beat up, but I remember Infini being real tough during training."

Subdued after the talk with Robyn, Ami stays quiet, murmering her agreement to the pairing, seemingly lost in thought, occasionall glancing at either Sean or Roybn.

Robyn and Will step forward and the referee nods,
"Round 5 : Team GLAM vs The Ordos Faction. Standard rules apply with only two members from team GLAM taking part"

Both change their poses and grip the backs of their gloves with their free hands

The two hold their poses and the crowd grows slightly. The second round competition drawing much more attention than the battle with Team Orion had

The two faction members begin to move. Stood slightly behind the two teammates who are preparing for battle, two familiar faces catch Sean's eye. Zoe and Xander from Team Orion are stood in the heavy scattering of people ready to watch events unfold.

"Battle"

Completeing their spins at the same moment the two members of the faction unleash their monsters on the steel field.

The monster standing before the shorter member is recognisable to all four members of Team GLAM, and no doubt a good collection of the on-lookers. The cute little monster is near identical to one of those offered to the group, a Vee.

Before the taller member of the team stands an all-together stranger creature. Looking like a cross between a scrap-head and an insect, the robotic creature twitches in apprehension at the oncoming fight. Will guesses that the creature is a MecKaki, an odd species of metallic creature each with a completely unique appearance and a wide variety of powers

Steel... Great Will quickly shouts "Infini go for a bite on the Vee quickly!".
He turns slightly to Robyn and says hurriedly "The Vee should go down faster, if we knock it out first we can concentrate on the robot."
The Vee shouldn't be too troublesome but the Meckaki is gonna be able to take most of the abuse we throw at it.

"Gotcha. Tipper, help out Infini and bite the Vee as well!" Robyn says, shouting out to her turtle 'mon a command before the other team has a chance to act. Her face twists up in discomfort as Tipper acknowledges her command and bounds off towards the small dragon.

"Awwwww... poor Vee," Robyn says, a little upset at having to attack the wonderfully cute dragon 'mon. If it hadn't been for that Tipper called to her more, she would have chosen the adorable Vee on the first day, "I hope that I'll be able to catch one of those at a later time so that way I can raise one instead of having to hurt it."

"Im not too big on cute But training a dragon would be interesting. But if you want to see what one is capable of i don't think there's a better way than this." Will says this not taking his eyes off Infini.

"I really don't care too much of seeing what it's capable of combat-wise, it's more of caring for it and raising it to whatever potential it feels like. Knowing that you have a strong bond and that your 'mon is just as willing to sacrifice for you as you are for it is more my thing, y'know?"

Removing her P.D.A, Amicula scans the metal looking creating, knowing that is she can learn more about it, she can relay the information onto Robyn.

Infini leaps at the adorable Vee, jaws wide and runic symbols flaring with a deep purple light. At the last moment the dragon slides sideways completely avoiding the blow.

With it's eyes focused on the Trian the small dragon fails to notice Tipper charging towards him and as such becomes the victim of a painful bite which the Hydrotort's powerful jaws ensure stays connected.

The floppy haired faction member shakes his head and shouts across the field,
"Anya! Break free of that!". Responding to his words rather than despairing the Vee twists it's body and pushes the powerful jaw of Tipper open, leaping backwards in the process and staring uneasily at the two monsters attacking.

The remaining faction member speaks in a calm voice,
"Tron... Use your Volt flail on the hydrotort"
Responding to it's masters wishes the robotic creature charges towards Tipper, starting slowly but building speed. One of it's arms flattens and begins to glow, the charge ends with a whiplike extension of energy lashing across Tipper. The hydrotort shudders as the charge passes through it's body and spasms briefly afterward, however no long-term effects seem to have been caused.

Will is slightly taken aback by the Meckaki's volt flail I didn't think a monster that young would have that kind of specialisation. This changes things, for the worse... Decision time, keep at the Vee or take the heat off Tipper?

Will steadies himself before shouting "Infini Bite the robot! Try to keep it off Tipper's back!"

"Robyn I'll try to keep the Robot off Tipper while you take out the Vee."

Its power source is its weak point? I wonder where it is ...

Looking over the 'mon with a critical eye, Ami attempts to spot the location of its power source.

"Got it!" Robyn says, nodding. "Volt Flail? That definitely sounds electrical... that means that mon will really hurt Tipper if it gets a chance!

Casting a concerned glance Tipper's way, she locks eyes with the cute Hydrotort and speaks forcefully, but caring, at her own 'mon, "Tipper, keep at the Vee! Infini's going to try and help you!"

Abandoning the weaker Vee to Robyn and Tipper's attentions, Will's Trian spins and darts toward the MecKaki. His powerful jaws catch hold of one it's arms but the thick metallic structure of the monster is too strong and Infini fails to make any kind of impact or hold.

With only one opponent now the Vee stares directly at the on-coming monster, as Tipper lashes out to bite he jumps sideways. The cute little dragon it seems is suprisingly agile.
"The shell is too strong, try for it's head!"
With a short run the Vee barges towards Tipper's head, but the hydrotort reacts quickly, withdrawing her head back just in time leaving the Vee to rebound painlessly

"He can't hurt you Tron! Ignore it, another Volt Flail at the hydrotort!"
The whiplike extension of electricity forms once again and lashes toward Tipper. The intial strike misses but the whip curves on itself and makes full contact with the hydrtort. After a few moments, which seem like an eternity to Robyn, Tipper falls to the ground unmoving. The referee announces the defeat of one monster to the cheers of the crowd,
"Robyn has been moved from the round with a KO to her monster. Will is the final remaining team meber of Team GLAM"

Perhaps a shade too late Ami realises the power-core of the MehKaki is just beneath it's head, a gap in the plates of armour show the blue light pouring outward.

Couldn't do a thing, can't hit one, can't hurt the other, and Infini's stuck between the two. Will looks at the two assailants Joints!Infini's Bite should be like a tin opener! Hopefully his armour will hold against the Vee. "Infini Try another bite! Go for the joints! Show you can hurt that thing!"

With everything against him Infini decides to ignore the voice of his master and leaps at the smaller, weaker dragon-monster. Catching the creature entirely by suprise he bites with his mandibles onto the head of the creature, the combination of suprise and increased strength from Infini's last-stand beserk leaving the Vee lying limp and bloody on the steel stage.
The blonde-haired trainer screams in fear as the referee announces the defeat,
"Albert has been moved from the round with a KO to his monster. Only one member of each team remains"
Despite the KO the crowd cheers are rather stunted. A monster disobeying it's master and viciously biting a cute little dragon doesn't seem to be a crowd pleaser

With his team-mate's monster out of action, the remaining member of team Ordos stands strong and points at the raging Infini,
"We haven't lose yet! We'll show Team Glum how a real trainer and his monster works"
The MecKaki pushes on arm against it's wrist and unleashes a writhin tentacle of electricty, spinning on the spot it connects the tendril easily against the Trian. It's roar changes from victory and anger, to pain and more anger.

Ami notices the power-core fade from it's brilliant crimson to a more subtle glow as the electricty stream vanishes

Will is stunned by the violence of Infini's attack I need to get him back under control before he does something that can't be healed at a centre.

Unsure of what to do He attempts to get the Trian undercontrol barely able to control his voice with fear and concern "Infini calm down and do what I tell you! I know your angry but we're a team and we have to work together! Take down the robot."

"Tipper!" Robyn screams in despair at seeing Tipper so easily knocked out by the other 'mon. While she recalls Tipper from the field by using the token, as soon as Tipper is fully inside the token, she re-releases her Hydrotort and kneels down, watching the battle, but still hugging and caressing Tipper while whispering comforting words into her 'mon's ear.

"Don't worry about that, Tipper, it's okay. You gave it a good shot out there, it's just that the opposition was a bit tougher and more experienced than we were expecting. It's all right, it's- OH MY GOD!"

Robyn's words of comfort and gentle caressing come to an end as Infini gives the Vee a vicious bite to the head, red tinging the Vee's delicate white fur.

Looking over towards Will, she can barely contain her fright at the thought that Infini is not listening to his equally-frightened commands.

A thought crosses her mind, of disregarding the rules, entering the playing field, and going to the aid of... Albert, wasn't it?, and his Vee. Despair overcomes her, thinking of the disappointment her teammates and Umbrella would feel at her personally ending the battle...

Will's words penetrate the red mist building up inside the insectile Trian, hearing the words of his master he releases the anger returning to the metal stage where he is wounded and battling a robotic creature he cannot harm.

After a short dash across the field, Infini bites again. Forcing his mandibles into a gap at the joint of the arm which produced the lashing streams of electricity. Even with all of his strength and weight he can only produce the tiniest of dents in the plating.

With the Trian still attached to it's arm, the MecKaki finds his options are limited. Despite the weight of it's armour the monster isn't suited to unaided combat, and the blow Infini recieves to his head does little to deter his grip.
As his monster wrestles with Will's the trainer pulls a an orb from his back pocket. Snapping the orb open and flicking the glittering slime it glides through the air towards the robotic creature and impacts on his head. The slime runs down between the gaps and fades.

Ami notices the power core flare up once again

Taken aback but the sudden violence, Ami takes a moment before yells down to Will.

"The robot has a weak spot bellow the neck!"

Will hears Ami and decides the best chance now is taking Ami's advice Pretty obvious really suprised i didn't pick up on it

He Tries too spur Infini on "Infini go for the robot's neck! aim for the light! We can disable it and finish this!"

The now under control Trian releases it's grip on the MecKaki's arm and refocuses it's efforts on the partially concealed powercore. With so much pressure on the monster it leaps forth to tear away the plating over the core only to stumble and end up lying on it's back at the feet of the MecKaki.

Looking directly at Will, the remaining trainer from the faction laughs,
"Looks like you have more than your own incompetence against you today. Defeating such a weak trainer and his monster after a stumble brings no challenge ... But it will let us reach the real competition faster!"
Twisting slightly the MecKaki punches downwards, landing a powerful blow to Infini's head.

The last comment brings Will to a level of anger that could equal Infini's rage but he controls himself.
"Infini concentrate I know you can do this. Try again If you get him Hold on to the neck and put as much pressure on the Piece of scrap as you can for both of us!"

Pulling itself back to it's feet using the MechKaki's body, Infini growls for a moment before forcing his fangs into the thick armoured "skin" of the robotic monster. With all his might he is able to cause minimal damage to the armoured covering of the power core.

Reacting to the Trian now clinging to it's chest the MecKaki pushes it's arm into the side of the biting fiend and withdraws it's dreaded Volt Flail. Infini spasms as the electricity courses through it's body. Defying all logic the MechKaki seems completely unscathed despite it's physical connection to the target.

The crowd seems to enjoy the close quarters fighting, although it's near impossible to tell which contender is recieving the majority of the crowd's support

Looking to see if Infini had hit the neck, Will calls out telling him to either hang on and bite harder if he did, or to try again if he missed.

Shifting it's position and biting down hard on the metal plating, Infini manages to cause a little movement and press the heavy plating of the MecKaki's own body against it's power core. The core flares with blue brilliance for a moment and both Will and Infini realise they just managed to cause some actual damage to the creature.

"Tron, no! Finish him while you have a chance. One last Volt Flail!"
Pressing it's arm into the Trian's side again it let's loose a stream of electricty. Infini spasms for a moment his runes lose the hint of purple light they normally carry

Griping her hand into a fist until the knuckles go white, Amicula stares down at the battles, seeing the momentary dim of Infini's runes and knowing exactly what it means.

He's almost KO'd. And even if he does win, there is a good chance the robot will explode, killing him too. But If I say anything, Will will only hesitate, and that will cost us the victory.

Robyn's eyes plead for the suicidal battle of both contenders to stop. As much as she wants the team to win, both 'mon are driving themselves into near oblivion!

Raising a hand to her mouth, she gums hard at the knuckle on her index finger, eyes wide with fright. Why couldn't the two boys see that their 'mon were both going to lose if they kept this up? Why?

Seeing the flare up rekindles Wills hopes of victory knowing that if Infini can keep the pressure up then they can actually beat the robot, he also sees the pain the poor Trian is suffering and knows this needs to be finished quickly. So he tries to spur Infini on into one last show of force.
"Infini your doing it! you've got them on the run we can finish this now! Hang on! Squeeze with all your might!" Will feels the sweat running down his brow.

Applying further pressure to the MecKaki's neck requires all of Infini's strength but the change in colour rewards his effort. The robotic creature struggles and in a surge of pain driven strength lands clumsy blow after clumsy blow on it's new attachment,

"Get it off you Tron! Stop him!"
Infini feels weak and faint from the battle, blackness washes over him and he cannot maintain his grip on the MecKaki or conciousness. His jaw relaxes and the Trian slumps onto the metal stage.
The opponent monster mirrors the movement only with slighlt ymore control, sitting down facing the defeated Trian.

The referee raises his arms into the air
"Will has been defeated with a KO to his monster."

The winning trainer recalls the MecKaki to his token and strikes a pose as the referee continues,
"The Ordos Faction win the round. Team GLAM have been eliminated."
The crowd cheers and the defeated faction member also strikes a pose while the applause washes over him

Infini returns to Wills glove before Will nods in acnowlegement to the Meckaki's Trainer before moving off the arena straight to the healing machine with a look of concern on his face.

Placing a hand on Sean's shoulder, Ami looks at the retreating Will.

"This is his third loss, out of three battles. I don't know how well he is going to take it, so go with him and make sure both he and Infini are okay. Robyn and I will be along in a moment."

Leaving Will behind, Amicula makes her way down to Robyn, and slips an arm around her.

"Are you okay?" she asks in Novtopi, some concern slipping into her voice.
