Since someone showed interest in my half-dragon game, I'm resurecting it. Anyone who wants to play just say here, and I'll see if I can get things moving again.

Do we need to buy all of the basic stuff (i.e., food, an outfit), or just what we need (i.e., weapon, armor, a few misc. items)?

I don't pay much attention to food or clothes. Just pick something up every once in a while.

Quick question.
-half-dragon template for free
You mean half-dragon has no ECL? Also, want us to post characters, or post them after you get a forum?

I'm gonna have a pretty hectic month so i'll try and avoid getting involved in more games :)

Just email me your characters. Once I get enough people, the game will start again.

Listen, do you have a PHB? I can fill in the rest if you do. If you don't, it's impossibly to teach you until you get one.

In case someone only has the bare bones set of books, here's non-PHB stuff.
Point Buy (DMG): A system where you use a set # instead of rolling dice. You can use this anytime, but it's main use is for PBPs ('cause you can't see their dice). All character's stats start at 8, with increasing cost with ability score:
Score...Point Cost
9..........1
10........2
11........3
12........4
13........5
14........6
15........8
16........10
17........13
18........16
Racial bonuses/penalties are applied after the points are allocated.
Half-Dragon (MM): A template denoting a character who is the decendant, usually the direct offspring or grandchildren, of a dragon and a nondragon. The following changes are made to the base (nondragon) creature:
-Type changes to dragon
-Hit Dice: All natural and class HD are increased one step (d4=d6=d8=d10=d12), to a max of d12.
-+4 natural armor
-Gains claw and bite attacks. Damage depends on size. Small characters do Bite 1d4/Claw 1d3, and medium-size characters do 1d6/1d4.
-Can use the breath weapon of the parent dragon 1/day
-Gains immunity to sleep, paralysis, and the parent dragon's element.
-darkvision 60ft. and low-light vision
-Ability increase: Str +8, Dex +0, Con +2, Int +2, Wis +0, Cha +2
Anything else can be found in the PHB.

what is phb
Cadogan Trahem

PHB is short for Players Handbook; its the minium requirement you need to play the game. It has the rules of how the system works (very simple), basic equipment, spell list and character creation.
Visit your local table top game store (places which sell fantasy novels, and battle games like Warhammer might sell copies also) and ask if they have it, its brown and has a hard cover and has "Dungeons and Dragons Player's Handbook Core Rule Book 1" written on the front cover.

I need to check something with you before I make my character. I'd like to play a whip fighter. Would you allow me to use a feat that allows me to threaten the 15 feet I can reach? We could just build it between the two of us.
Also, you never answered my question. What do you mean when you say the half-dragon template is "free"? Do you mean it has no ECL?
Ichiro Suzuki
14th of January, 2003, 09:54
Is there still room?
Setzer Gabbiani
14th of January, 2003, 22:12
Yes, by "free" I meant no ECL, it's part of the game idea.
No, one feat won't let you threaten 15ft with a range weapon. You can take the lasher PrC for melee ability, but 15ft. threat radius is an epic ability.
Yes, there's room. Ichiro will probably be the last player I let in, since that makes 5.

In case you weren't with us last time, I do not enforce the half-dragon's alignment restrictions. You still have to watch yourselves if paladin or monk is your gig.

Since half-dragon is no ECL, I see no reason why not to play it. Except maybe for flavor.
Oh well, no threatening for me. Thanks for letting me know before we started, though, so I can fix my feats accordingly *drops Combat Reflexes*
I played under a DM once that let me threaten 15 feet... I was eeeevvviiillll!

Oh before I forget.
When your half-dragon/half-human, do you still retain all your human bonuses like the extra feat, favored class any, and extra skill point per level? I don't have the MM with me, so I can't really look it up.
