So you may have noticed that Orp was down. It's a funny story really, and once again I'm not to blame. This time? It was witches. It seems these evil witches used their powerful magics to cast a spell upon Orp. It took a lot of burning and not a few wild-accusations, but we seem to have beaten them back.

What? You're roleplayers, use your imagination!

Oh fine. Apparently when we shifted ownership we neglected to give me control to update the nameservers. It worked fine under Danny's old account, until the system noticed that he didn't own any online-roleplaying.com URL and removed it. It then took me 24 hours to work out what was wrong because of the time it hit and that I'm a newb.

Also, I was trying to avoid posting in my games.

Well it's the New Year. In the closing stages of 2009 Orp had a few server related problems, downtime, DNS issues, that mysterious 18 hour period that apparently didn't exist.

Well I'm going to put all of that behind us and find a better way forward for this site. My resolution for 2010 is to find a believable scapegoat that I can pin all of the problems on while remaining free take credit for all the good things that happen.

That is my promise to you in this New Year.

Some of you may remember the glory days of having private subfora. Those special little forums which DMs loved to annoy the admins with by requesting hundreds of thousands of them for each and every game. Those dark times were banished back when a vicious koala army launched a coup d'tat upon our previous robotic overlords.

Evil never dies, however. It just rests. And when on a full moon you move server, if the stars are in just the correct alignment, and you sacrifice eighteen hours of posts, then to you the dark ones will return.

So private forums are once again available. Any that previously existed still work fine and we'll start playing catch up with those fine, brave young men who went off to war asking for such tools but were denied. And from now on, anybody who is making a game can feel free to ask for such wonders.
16th of November, 2009 @ 04:11It wasn't my fault!

We had an unexpected server move drop on us. And when I say unexpected I mean: "I didn't know about it until after it happened."

And thanks to my less then lightening reactions, the slightly complicated set up we have going and my hosting not talking to me, we lost somewhere between 12 and 18 hours worth of posts.

I'm very sorry to those of you who did have a post go missing, I will try but I don't think I can get them back. The only consolation I can offer is that as annoyed as you find this, imagine if you were the one paying for it.

And not my fault. If anyone, blame Danny for giving the community to some convict.

Yeah umm ... sorry about the downtime.

We ran into a slight problem with a server migration that was 100% avoidable if I had spent five minutes beforehand thinking about it. And I decided not to mention the potential for problems because everytime I do nothing ever happens.

So yeah, my bad. Won't happen until the next time it does. Also this place is kinda creepy when no one is around.
